Me too! I've been singing in stairwells and tunnels and abandoned military bunkers for more than half a century, and never yet found one that sings harmony in a higher register on the choruses.

Shanties have a call-and-response structure that was used so sailors could sing and work in unison while performing physically demanding tasks such as hoisting the sails or raising the anchor. This is a ballad not a shanty. Still lovely but it bothers me people don't know the difference.

Why Im a fan of the sea shanty genre. Unlike modern music which tends to focus on money, romance or vanity, sea shanties are the songs of working class people, working dangerous, crummy jobs to get ahead in life or just to survive. People willing to risk their lives for adventure and a better future. The genre is typically characterized by its hard boiled, old timey, working man nature. Buts its also really nice to hear a woman sing these songs
