    Man they made some bizarre choices with the modern controls for this game.

      I have to agree with you some of the controls on Modern are a bit all over the place and take a bit of getting use to.
      Its just the fact you can't do simple stuff (without guns) such as side stepping and back-hop. Also 2 actions buttons. neither of which; I have found out, work to get out of a vehicle in the later games. You have to used what you have assigned to 'Roll' and a direction left or right.

    I use modern controls but I have been changing to tank controls for some of the trickier platform sections. So glad that I know how to hop back now whilst using the modern controls

    • @TheGameBreakersUK

      You can back-hop by pressing back with your weapons drawn as well. However there are times where you are without them, so hopefully this workaround was of use to you.

    This actually really helped. I initially gave up on the modern controls in TR1 before I even left the mansion and played all the way up through the Colosseum using tank controls. Might have to try finishing the game with modern now.

    • @TheGameBreakersUK

      If your going to switch controls and you're not used to them. I'd have a good mess about in the home first. Ideally TR3's home as you have all the controls available (Duck/Dash) and you get the guns at the end of the assault course.
      In my opinion if you want more fluidity then go modern, if you want more precision go tank... But find which is right for you and re-map buttons if you need.

      @@TheGameBreakersUK Yeah I did mess around in home first. Finished The cistern level then. I think half my struggle is my poor control pad is not the best. I've had moments with modern controls where I've held down the walk button, pushed a direction and happily ran off a cliff to my death. Otherwise I've just been save scumming like mad. Which I guess I would have done with classic controls too so *shrug*

    Let's just hope future patches make modern controls combat less cringy than it is now.

  • @CritStanley
    @CritStanley Před 6 měsíci +1

    I feel like a decent fix for modern combat would be to have the camera lock onto the enemy Lara is aiming at when the fire button is held down. To switch targets, let go of the fire button (with your guns still drawn) and let Lara aim at the enemy closest to the center of her line of sight. Start firing, and bam, cam locks onto that enemy.

    I don't know why so many people hate modern controls. If you change some bottons, it feels just as Angel of Darnkess on PS2 (but way faster and responsive). I beated TR1 and TR2 with modern controls so far, and I loved it. Sometimes the camera can act a bit crazy, but it works. Aspyr could fix some elements, such as the camera, being able to use the D-Pad for side jumps and so. But man, people exagerates when saying that modern controls sucks. They just don't know how to use them and doesn't want to waste time learning how to play with them. I llve tank controls, but I loved modern controls way more!

    • @TheGameBreakersUK
      @TheGameBreakersUK  Před 6 měsíci +2

      I wouldn't say they suck. They absolutely take some getting used to and re-mapping can be helpful. I do agree with you that they are more responsive... sometimes a bit too responsive that you fall off a ledge lol.
      The camera does need to be fixed when using modern as its all over the place sometimes.

    I don't get it? All they had to do was just change her movement to 360. That's it.
    Everything else (i.e. holding the draw button to keep the gun drawn? What the actual hell?) seems completely unnecessary.
    She plays like a completely different character.

    Its the camera jank that has to bring this collection down to a 7 over 10 for me. The entire reason i bought this was to play these games without wrestling with the original tank controls in 2024. And in places the new controls work fine. But close confines or low ceilings send her spinning around like a wino at kicking out time. And the games NEED auto save. The amount of times i got too wrapped up in what i was doing to remember to manual save frequently and lost a ton of progress.

  • @supalognon

    Controling the boat is not mentioned here and Venise in TR2 is unbeatable without this knowledge. Basically, apart from left trigger to go forward and right trigger to go backwards, the main action button allows to hop in from water, the roll button + left/right to jump out. Also, very important, the jump button gives a boost while pressing the trigger button. I had to search all that, not pleasant.

    TR3, on the ATV, how do I exit the vehicle?

    • @TheGameBreakersUK
      @TheGameBreakersUK  Před 6 měsíci +1

      It's Primary Action to use vehicles on Modern Controls and then stupidly whatever you have mapped to "Roll" and the left or right d-pad depending on which side you want to get off.
      Modern Controls - Left trigger accelerate / Right trigger Reverse
      Tank Controls - "Jump" is reverse / "Primary Action" is Accelerate

    Confused by you saying that the game is built on a grid. Tank controls are still 360° movement, it's not as if Lara snaps to tiles or something.

    • @TheGameBreakersUK
      @TheGameBreakersUK  Před 6 měsíci

      You can turn 360 degrees in Tank but you can only actually move Forward, Back, and side step left and right. Giving Lara the "turning circle of a tank". If you jump you can't move in the air and bend your jump
      In Modern you can run in any angle at anytime, in a curve if you want to and you can't turn on the spot... but it doesn't look right at times... and messes with the camera. If you jump in Modern you can bend your jump giving you a little more fluidity
      The original game is built on a grid. Jumping forward moves you one in game tile, running jump 2 in game tiles and a running jump with grab puts you on the edge of the tile 3 away from where you were.

    • @SogonD.Zunatsu
      @SogonD.Zunatsu Před 6 měsíci

      @@TheGameBreakersUK The environment being on a grid and the jump being a certain distance I get, but Lara's rotation isn't snappy. People often mash left or right just so they can precisely face a ledge. That's kinda the problem with the gameplay: that the environments are so strictly designed but her controls are unwieldy and it's more a matter of fighting against them than with them.

    What’s Dead Zone?

    • @TheGameBreakersUK
      @TheGameBreakersUK  Před 6 měsíci +2

      The controller I used on PC has stick drift on the left stick. In this case Lara would walk forward without me touching anything.
      I have to add the dead zone so this doesn't happen.

    • @brucewayne2955
      @brucewayne2955 Před 6 měsíci +6

      Deadzone is basically let's you adjust how much pressure on the sticks it takes for the stick to actually do an input.
      It's very useful if your controller has stick drift. Stick drift makes the character move without putting any pressure on the stick so if you increase the deadzone it'll prevent the stick drift
