Heading into Super Bowl week, the talk and hype is always around quarterbacks, with this year being no different as Brock Purdy and Patrick Mahomes headline Super Bowl 58…usually for QBs it’s experience that lands you in the post season but for CJ Stroud, the front runner for NFL Rookie of the year, seems to have defied the odds and made a name for himself as one of the elite QBs in the league and led the Texans to post season success.
There is nothing basic about being a quarterback in the NFL and CJ is giving credit where credit is due and talks why Brock Purdy has earned where he is but why he is still taking Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in this Sunday’s big game. but more than anything, he is reflecting back on a historical first year in the NFL and it’s not lost on him where he comes from and how it all started.
CJ who was drafted to the Houston Texans 2nd overall last year, perception pointed to this scenario as being the worst to go to for any of the rookie quarterbacks but CJ proved that theory wrong and let his on-field play and leadership, take the Texans to the playoffs. The Pivot crew sat with CJ at the 2023 NFL Draft and instantly knew this young man was different. Fast forward 10 months and CJ is now sitting with Ryan, Fred and Channing, as part of the league’s top players and eager to keep getting better and growing.
Stroud forged his own path this season, and with staple wins against Jacksonville, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and Tampa Bay, there seemed to be a unanimous call for him to be the Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Many athletes talk about blocking out the noise, but CJ has learned to embrace the good with the bad and using the chatter as fuel for his game. With strong faith and an extra-motivated Houston Texans team, CJ earned the trust and respect of his teammates by coming through in big moments.

I love that CJ mentions a little girl looking up to him. I have a 7 year old daughter that loves football. She’s a longtime Chiefs fan, but her first flag football team was the Texans. Hold that against CJ but nobody else is. CJ also had to earn right to even play in the game while Florida got voted in the game based on Alliance Bowl rules. Florida hasn't been relevant since Tebow.

Man I love this kid, I’m a Broncos fan but this kid is special. Confident when he has to be, grateful, humble, and respectful in a time when most people with his skills are haughty and big headed. I listened to some of Unc’s interview with Cam Newton and I had to turn it off. It’s a big contrast to this interview. I wish Stroud the best, I hope he wins at least one SB.

CJ led the Texans to the postseason and got a win in his rookie season...Let me say that again, the Texans. Purdy deserves praise for being way better than last pick in draft but give me a break trying to tear down CJ being talked about and comparing the two. CJ had one of the best rookie seasons ever and doesn't have that kind of talent around him. Hell people tried to say it was all Tank then he got hurt and CJ kept playing well 😅

As a 67 year old Black woman, I assure you there are MANY women who Love Football at every level and who love the Pivot! I have two sons; both played in the Pal League in Detroit, and one played in high school and received a Football scholarship to play college football. I have a Grandson who was a standout Quarterback in high school playing at Churchill high school. He’s now the starting quarterback at Adrian College on a football scholarship and will be at the Super-bowl with his Sports Management Class representing the school. I like his Brock Purdy comments too. I usually appreciate Ryan Clark’s insight, but I can also tell if Purdy had more melanin RC would be singing a different tune about him - he would’ve had Purdy lined up for the first Pivot show after the SuperBowl.
Real talk, I see similar characteristics with Stroud and Purdy. I know their backgrounds are different and Purdy grew up with a privilege that Stroud didn’t, but the family values, respect in God and their humble confidence definitely line up.
Man CJ is a class act. Such good and mature dude for real. But Go Dawgs.

We say “IF” a lot when talking about burgeoning superstars “if they keep their head on straight..” “if they keep the right people around them..” they’ll go on and do extraordinary things.
CJ Stroud is a “WHEN” guy. “When he goes on to become one of the greats” “When he continues to figure out the complexities of the QB position..”
He’s like a man already in his prime, with the manner in which he speaks, conducts himself, leads and how comfortable he is in his own skin. Those are premiere qualities to have in a world where everyone almost wants you to deviate from who you are at your core and be like everyone else that had attained some form of success doing it a way that has already been doing or been coerced to.
I’m not a Texans fan, but I’m a supporter of Bruh and I know he’ll do exceptional things WHEN it’s all said and done.
