Oh, and on the song... GG rarely perform CMIYC live. Because the choreography and overall performance is very intense and takes a lot to pull off the performance successfully.
First thing I noticed was the dance line getting more lyrics to sing finally.
The members who shined were Sooyoung, Hyoyeon, Yuri, but you forgot YoonA! They all had more lines in this one song than any of them have had before in past songs plus they each looked liked a lead singer. Agree?!

They call them the nation's girl group in South Korea. Their song "Into the New World" seems to be the second national anthem (joking), but at times of national crisis it seems to unite the country. Their song "Gee" was pretty much the first K-pop song/video to break-through in the West. The case can be made, no GG, no International K-pop scene. Certainly, groups like Itzy and GIdle would not have been created with such an international bent without GG. The soloists within GG are also worth checking out. They originally had two members who are US citizens (only one is left, long story) so they could do media in the US without a translator, made all the difference in the world.

This is the OT8 (8 members minus Jessica) version of "Catch Me If You Can". An earlier music video for this song which included the former 9th member Jessica Jung was held back from release when Jessica was abruptly and unceremoniously kicked out of Girls' Generation in Sep 2014.
I have not seen it but there is a "Catch Me If You Can" music video with all 9 members (OT9) available for viewing somewhere online despite SM Entertainment's best efforts to keep it hidden from the public.

This song was sort of a one off for Girls' Generation. That EDM sound wasn't really used much after this. What really makes this song different was the heavy vocal usage by the dance line members. They got their time to shine (vocally) on this song. I was very happy for them.

Girls' Generation debuted was in 2007 so they are 2nd gen group.
I suggest you check out their first song Into the New World. They released it in 2007, and it’s SUPER legendary in Korea. They’re considered the best girl group to come from Korea during a time where boy groups dominated. And don’t even get me started on the dozens of things they’ve created. And also, yes, they are old school but they’re from the 2nd generation, not the first haha 😂.
This is the only song they won't perform it anywhere else except for this mv, they said that because the choreograpy for this song is very hard.

Catch Me If You Can is actually an interesting MV to watch from GG, as it exists in 2 versions. Their 9th member Jessica was in conflict with the management of SM during the making of this, and parted ways with the members and label not long after this. Lots of hubbubb around it as it was announced her reasons for leaving was to focus on her private endeavors in fashion and cosmetics(i believe), where her commitments there conflicted with her schedule as part of Girls Generation. They had been 9 members from their creation and were naturally very close, so much devastation and slander thrown around towards her and the label for quite some time. Jessica and Tiffany are American born in San Francisco, which really helped them bridge the natural language barrier that often exists between east-Asia and NA/EU.
Anyway, due to Jessica leaving the label at this time, there are 2 MVs of this song. One with and one without her.

Yeah man, you "get it," as they say. Love this reaction! BTW regarding groups that have killer vocals, I I highly recommend Gugudan. Not quite up to the par of GG as a group, but damn near. That's likely only because the production's not quite up to the par of SM, but also damn near. But their main thing is the vocals, incl. some seriously impressive a capella (acapella) vocals, which GG never did. And Gugudan's main vocalist Sejeong imho is superior--arguably superior, with emphasis on "arguably"-- to GG's main vocalist Taeyeon. I say "arguably" because Sejeong herself--not to mention many Taeyeon fans--would probably say naahh. Regardless, if you check out Gugudan or Sejeong's solo stuff I think you'll dig. 🙂

You haven't heard Girl's Generation until you've heard Into the New World and I Got A Boy. K-Pop wouldn't be K-pop without those songs. Trust me.
Girls Generation, EXO and NCT (which you mentioned in the video) as well as Red Velvet, aespa, SuperM, SHINee and Super Junior are all SM Ent groups. SM generally produces their content and they've always been quite experimental so that's why they all try multiple genres! another epic SM group you haven't checked is TVXQ and i think you should 👀
If you're a fan of dance moves in the Kpop videos, you really should be watching the dance practice videos as much as the MVs :p A full stage choreography preformed with a fixed cam is a lot more entertaining to watch than the fast pans and zooms Korea seems so fond of :p My personal favorites in the Dance Practice area are Gfriend(these girls have some crazy complex choreos), AOA, BTS and TWICE
