Appreciation or flattery, encouragement or boasting, self confidence or a sense of superiority? This episode of Tapasya ponders over the fine line that differentiates the identical emotions which nurture growing learners.
Tapasya - the training sessions, is a series of videos that will be published on a monthly basis (as episodes) on the last day of every month.

I were enrolled into a bharatnatyam class when I were six. I used to be very scared of the teacher and I could not understand anything he was trying to teach me. Just copied what everyone were doing like a parrot. When I used to ask something he would never pay attention. Now I aspire to learn Bharatnatyam when I will be in a decent place in life...

Same happened with me I almost became traumatized ....I was always pushed in the back line as a begginer and I learnt dance by checking out dances of my seniors and batchmates and my mom being a ex kathak dancer helped me with mudras and wherever she could by seeing videos from you tube. Then I discovered SDN. I realised how wrong the way of teaching here was. By seeing them following sheela ma'am's tips I improved to a considerable level as I had nobody to guide . I was then pushed to the front line and my teacher even beat me if I couldn't do something properly so much so my body parts would swell up . Many of my batchmates left to learn bharathanatyam in other dance classes, I even contacted them so that I could get into a decent class. But alas there is no good dance classes in my locality which is WB. But I still joined another where my friend and me were put in a senior batch by 3 years. We couldn't cope up with their speed and the teacher's continous berating because of our unability. We ultimately left dance class overall. Now I learn dance from SDN videos. I loved dance always but now I dance from heart and not with fear. Really grateful these modern technologies exist . Hope that someday I would be able to learn dance from somewhere they actually teach instead of demotivating and beating students 😢😢

I have had students who imagine themselves to be great dancers, after appearing on the stage just once.
They got much undeserved praise and thereafter it became very difficult either to teach them or correct their mistakes.
A mother of one such student got angry with me since I was the only one who kept finding fault with her darling daughter.
I tried to convince her saying that since I was the teacher only I would know where she was committing mistakes.
Eventually she stopped coming to the dance class.
She lost a sincere teacher and I was happy to get rid of a head strong student for good.
    A few passing thoughts...
Many children and grown ups appear to be sleep starved or is it just because they are sitting idle? 🥱
The heroine of this episode is a Baby Siva with a small fountain ⛲ on her head. 🤗
With so many eyes fixed on her, in addition to the eye of the camera 📸, how does she manage to dance so well?
    So the Tapasya continues....
    🙏🍀🪷🍀🙏

I remember watching your videos for the first time when I was in 8th and now time has flown with me completing my graduation and Tapasya passing its 'Asheethi'. Watching Harinie Akka was the game changer in my Dance journey and I've been keenly watching the SDNs since. Sheela ma'am has been my Manasa Guru, with me yearning to meet all of you in person. And today my dream has partially come true, when I happened to see Bhairavi Akka and Shobha ma'am passing by. And I was amazed, don't these people need rest! Less than a day after their dance drama, they are at Guruvayur. However, I couldn't make to meet them and talk, the only that caught my attention was Bhairavi Akka's blue streaks and Shobha ma'ams side view.
All Prayers for everyone's well being and health. May all of you be blessed with goodness and good health in abundance. Love❤

I have a little, not too much, material on the arts that I would like to go to places that know their value and and also be able to use them.
