      So that tire and rim you held up looks like one I have, I bought for my sons kart. But mechanic said wrong kind. Mine is a Murray 2 seater go kart. I tried taking off the rear tires but it seems like they are attached to the axle. I'm really confused on this any input would be appreciated.

    Im glad someone made a video on this! Thanks to you i was able to change my own rear tires! The instructions are good but it was hard for me to understand how you got the new tire on so quickly. Eventually, I figured it out. It took me 2 hours to do two tires. I knicked the outside edge of the first tire but the 2nd one is fine. I'm going to try to seal the bad spots with grey RTV (let it cure for 24hrs) then re-bead the tire. I fixed my old 6" tire that had a 1" hole in the sidewall and its taken a bunch of abuse so far. Only running 6psi in the front, 10 in the rear

But Monster moto was bought out by Coleman, and they sell the old stock, renamed RT200 from walmart.com for 599, which is a great mini bike with heavy-duty frame and huge seat and front suspension. In my opinion Grant you make the best go kart video's 👍👍very informative. I have the Manco kart with a 6.5 briggs&stratton with a clutch and a few months ago you recommended putting a 30 series torque converter it sat for awhile then I finally did the other day and WOW what a difference now I know why you recommend it lol👍I was doing it to sell it because I have no where to use it besides my small backyard on Long Island NY but now I'm looking at tires lol. It snowed here yesterday and I took it out lock the axle because now I can lol and had a BLAST🤙😝🤙.With out the roll cage it will fit in my suburban perfectly but I must find a place to rip it around

    I change tractor, car, bike, and truck tires in pretty much the same exact way. I do not however recommend the starter fluid trick except as a last resort. If you take a ratchet strap and tighten it down real tight in the center of the tread all the way around it will force the beads onto the lip and using compressed air will pop it on. I have done the starter fluid and also used gas to seat the beads out in the field before but only as a last resort and if no compressor is available.

    • @KartFab
      @KartFab  Před 6 lety +1

      yeah, starter fluid is kinda risky, especially if you put in too much. I always do it with the valve stem out so it can relieve some pressure rather than build up too much.

    If you don't ever want to use starter fluid or don't have any, use a ratchet strap around the tire to tighten it and then blow a lot of air inside.

      hmmmm. could be the engine, or harmonic resonation. hard to tell. you could take your tire/rim assembly to a garage and they could balance it, but i doubt that would be the issue. could also be a bent axle or some weird out of round thing. In short, I dunno lol!

      Apply even pressure all around. Where’s case scenario, take it to a tire shop and I’ll pull it off for you. If you don’t want to do that and just want to throw away the tire you can cut the tire with a razor blade and then use some side cutters to cut through the wire that is in the bead

    • @KartFab
      @KartFab  Před 7 lety

      I agree. When I said do you need specialized tools? The answer is still no. You can definitely get by with just regular screwdrivers. Using tire spoons, and a legit bead breaker/tire changing tool is a lot easier, but they do cost a lot compared to how often you might use it.

    • @Johkah
      @Johkah Před 7 lety

    • @josephmars20
      @josephmars20 Před 6 lety +1

      I use long screwdrivers also. I'm not worried about scratches as it's for a go kart or lawn mower so looks don't matter gonna either thrash the kart or get the mower dirty so I'd rather use what I have on had to get the job done.

    • @KartFab
      @KartFab  Před 3 lety

      Need to have a spacer in hub, or at a bare minimum use a thin machine washer to prevent contact with bearing seal. If you don’t have a spacer inside, only torque so there is a tiny bit of clearance (0.010”) you never want to torque retaining but against bearing or you side load it, which causes failure

    Can you seat the bead with starter fluid when you have a tube in the tire ? Or will it burn it

    • @KartFab
      @KartFab  Před 4 lety

      There is no need to do this with a tube. Just fill the tube with air until the tire bead pops into place. Don’t overfill. It’s usually “max pressure to seat bead” on the sidewall

      Yeah, the torque converter sprockets are either #35 or #41. #41 sprockets for the jackshafts can take either 41 or 420 chain. Just make sure the sprocket is a 'Type C' - which is basically a sprocket with the teeth centered on the hub. By default the 30 series and 40 series torque converters come with type C sprockets.

    when i get my live axle kit, where do i put the lock collars? it only comes with 2, and it says the sprocket and brake have set screws.

    • @KartFab
      @KartFab  Před 7 lety

      +RedHead's Karts lock collars hold the rims from sliding around on the axle. So up against the inside hub of the rim. The other stuff (brake hub, sprocket, and even bearings) all have set screws to hold them in place.

      but will it keep the axle from sliding?

    • @KartFab
      @KartFab  Před 7 lety

      +RedHead's Karts the set screws on the bearings keep the axle from sliding. Use blue thread locker on the set screws

      the side of the bearing is right up against the rim. should i put the collars on the inside of the bearings to keep the axle secure?

    Do you need to use compressed air or can I just use a pump

    • @artsmith103
      @artsmith103 Před 3 lety

      You'll probably need the rope and maybe bead seal compound. It could be really difficult with a pump.

    • @KartFab
      @KartFab  Před 7 lety

      Just to give you a little test, it says on the sidewall 18 x 9.50 - 8 so what does that mean?

    • @backyardkarts9554
      @backyardkarts9554 Před 7 lety +1

      18" is diameter, 9.5 is tread width, and 8 is rim size, thanks! lol

      Yeah, they can be a pain sometimes. I have only had one set of tires that I had to cut off. Someone had put slime in the tires and it rusted the rims pretty bad so the bead wouldn't break. I ended up cutting the tire off the rims and had to repaint the inside portion of the rims.
