Good luck. I know how tough the naysayers' antipathy and skepticism are because back when Smash 4 came out, I used to be one myself, and in the end, the only cure for my foolishness was to actually play the game in the futile attempt to validate my spite. Shulk's journey as a scholar to comprehend the highest of all heavens and path as a warrior to pursue the personal agency of all peoples in his world resonated with me, especially considering how supported that progress was by the tiniest of interactions with each individual NPC and the overall camaraderie of his party. Experiencing those elements of the story and gameplay may have filled in the void that Xenoblade occupied in my own expectations of what deserves to be represented in something like Smash, but if this game and its philosophical brethren have taught me anything at all, it's that what you find wanting for in life varies from person to person and that transcends any quantifiable objective value no matter which way you slice it.

I think the death of Dickson is one of the most beautiful moments in the game. Shulk and his friend and mentor understand perfectly, and each gives a final gift to the other. Shulk spares Dickson the shame of dying in front of his enemies, and Dickson spares Shulk the shame of having to kill a helpless enemy. In those last moments, Dickson feels pride for his wayward pupil, and Shulk mourns his wayward teacher.

I remember finishing this game for the first time. My bf has been a fan of the series for a long time, and convinced me to pick up definitive edition when it came out last year. I wasn't expecting much from the game, all I knew about it was from seeing Shulk in smash, and I definitely didn't expect to get so emotionally invested in it. Never in a million years did I think that this series could rival my love for Zelda, which I've been a lifelong fan of before I could even read. Every step of the way this game blew me away with it's story and gameplay, and I still remember my shock when I learned the truth about Alvis, Klaus, and the creation of Xenoblade's world. I then went on to borrow my bfs copy of Xenoblade 2, and it continued to amaze me even further with it's characters and rich worldbuilding. It makes me so happy to see others introduced to this amazing series, and I hope you have a lot of fun if/when you play the other Xenoblade games!

So I know you're playing Future Connected before you play Xenoblade 2 but I want to say now, the tutorials in that game suck. So look up a Chuggaaconroy video called "Everything I wish I knew about Xenoblade Chronicles 2." You'll be glad you did. Or you can just wing it like you did here. Either way it'll be entertaining. Loved this playthrough and can't wait for your next one.

Take note of what was said in the end there. In Alvis' explanation in the original japanese, from what I understood of it, Alvis doesn't say that the universe was destroyed but says that the world Zanza made was a pocket dimension. What basically happened with the wish was that the pocket dimension was reformed as a planet that's part of the original universe.
    Looking forward to XC2.

Monolithsoft doesn't do bad work. They NEVER have. That's why Nintendo bought them. Biggest no brainer, ever. Square was foolish to let the walk, Sony was foolish to let them walk. Now, they are one of Nintendo's biggest developers and trusted to work on all of their most important games, and who really cares what square is doing, beyond a new Dragon Quest game or remakes? The only down side is Square still owns the rights to Xenogears, their best game, and they've had to make changes to their storytelling because of it. Can't use the same characters from that or Sony, and they have to call the Zohar the conduit, but much of the original game's plot devices has survived to later games, would be nice if Square and Sony didn't own some of the rights to their IPs, though.

  • @Xeno-The-Wanderer
    @Xeno-The-Wanderer Před 2 lety +3

well something of interest to you would be a cut series of scenes that takes place before the Bionis Interior section where the cast are resting in colony 9 and Fiora laments her own condition. hearing this, Melia recounts hearing that the high entia had technology that could potentially restore her. This leads them to the crashed High Entia ship in Tephra Cave that Ether Cylinders were acquired from where there was a door in that chamber at least visibly. behind it is a regeneration machine that they could use however the process would take 6 months time and Fiora couldn't wait that long and wanted to be with Shulk at the final battle. so that is the explanation for the restored body in the ending
something else interesting is the symbols in the Monado which are all Chinese characters/Kanji (both are the same thing) which all read something relating to the ability being shown with the interesting parts are when Buster is used it reads Machine, during the cutscene where it becomes the Monado II it reads Person (well it can read a lot of ways but I've always heard it to mean person though it may mean to refer to Human... but since they are called homs... yeah you get the idea) and the Monado III in this cutscene shows the character for God. as you can see the 3 refer to the ever growing power and range of what the Monado can cut.
there were some things you missed in the playthrough (since it's blind that is to be expected) with the biggest one with some impact on the future connected story is a sidequest that has the distinction of having fully voiced cutscenes so it may be something you should look into before doing Future Connected, the side quest can be found near Colony 6 towards the leg so I don't believe it should be too hard to find
Hope you enjoy the series going forward and hopefully you don't get too frustrated... also if you play X next don't get too used to the movement in there since Xenoblade 2 goes back to Xenoblade Chronicle's speed while X can have you leaping houses, cliffs and falling from the sky with no fall damage so it's quite the experience roaming the world especially after certain developments later on come along

The story of Xenoblade Chronicles might be one of the best of any JRPG ever. It goes through all the motions but it does so so precisely and perfectly, JRPGs have a history of making you fight a small enemy at first and literally god at the end but how it all connects in Xenoblade is incredible. And although i don't love the combat system as much, it's still unique enough to keep you interested. But the story is really where it's at and it is just easily the best story in a JRPG i have ever seen. It's so emotional and statisfying and that's no small amount to the incredible voice actors, not the least of which is Shulks voice actor who does just an incredible, award-worthy job in this.
It's definitely a journey, playing this game for the first time. And something that not all games get right, but this game also nails the ending. It just stops exactly where it should, leaves no desires open, and perfectly and statisfyingly concludes the journey.

  • @TimothyGod

One thing I think people don't give this game enough credit for is how easy it is to grind. Fast traveling is damn near instant even switching between different areas is pretty quick especially considered the old version. Killing enemies when you know what you're doing takes no time at all, fighting any enemy and traversing and knowing how to get from landmark to landmark to grind for the right monsters is easy when you know what you're looking for and how to build the characters from the beginning. You have access to the furnace at all times, if you know how to craft gems by using the proper characters me personally I use Shulk and Rheyn, which gives me rank six gems at the max every single time especially since I know how to separate my cylinders and slowly build toward just a single gem. It makes trying to make your characters as broken as possible as quick as possible super quick and easy because if you know how to fight an enemy they're dead in seconds and you just do that forever and it really doesn't take long
Edit: that added to the story, characters, writing, camera shots, pacing, voice acting, emotion, comedy, music. Chefs kiss 😘
Edit2: also that final exchange between Shulk and zanza before they fight is the perfect final talk, it's so damn perfect
Edit3: (≤---I'ma stop doing those) that first phase was really clean!!! Topple and nearly killed him in one chain attack, excellent mastery of the game
YESSSSSS MONADO III!!!! YOU DIDN'T CHECK THE STATS????
You have forgotten early training, gotta use the right monado arts to protect against visions. That's why you're op, not any new weapon 😉
