Man... even announcers are leaving the Flames
Bruh 😂
And to the Blackhawks!!!!!!!!!
The Flames have had around ten TV announcers since Ed Whalen retired.
No one wants to be apart of Calgary
Nah cmon now 😂😂😂
As per tradition, Luke Gazdic and Kevin Bieksa must drop the gloves and settle it on Hockey Night in Canada.
God now I have to cheer for Bieksa
my money is on Kevin
Pay per view! There would be a few takers for $10.
what a wonderful day for canada and therefor the world
That would be prime time television
I heard Rick Ball is considering changing his name to Rick Puck.
So no Baller but Pucker? 😂😂
No to the belt idea, absolutely zero interest in such a thing.
That's not gonna work for me, brother.
Rick Ball and Darren Pang. Now THIS is a broadcast worthy of an original 6 team.
We Miss Panger in St Louis. We had him for our Stanley cup. Him & Berube had a great Chemistry when he interviewed him during the game. I think theres a video out there of it.
holy jumpin'
Don Cherry rattled on for decades with his love for Boston and anything Bruins, nobody had a problem with it. The hurt feelings from people in this day and age needs to just stop. grow the heck up IMO.
The Hockey Guy, You're the best! I just had to subscribe!
Chicago is so lucky. Rick Ball is phenomenal and flames games on tv will be much less good without him.
Maybe they'll bring back Roger MIllions......
Flames games are already less good than most broadcasts because you have to watch the Flames on them. to hell with that franchise
@@AgentFortySeven47 that's a good one. This guys hilarious. Just ask him.
Agreed. As an Oiler fan I always appreciate his work. Ball is a very clean announcer. When a fan of the opposite side of the BOA says that, it has to mean something lol.
As much as Luke was asking to stir up controversy by saying that stuff on the Oilersnation's podcast, Canucks fans harassing him over a congratulations tweet? Not sure where you're at in life to think that is at all appropriate, the spillover in animosity since the Canucks and Oilers series ended has been something else.
Hockey Twitter is not in my algorithm, so I don't see much of the B. But it's in my bio that I'm a Canucks fan. I got seriously harassed by oilfans.
@@cowboywayne35 I was on the other side as an Oilers fan who got harassed by Canucks fans unprompted, so I suppose we can both agree that things got out of hand on both sides. It was a great series with two really passionate fanbases.
@devackroyd I went to two of the games in Edmonton (buddy had seats). That was a whole different level. I've sworn off going to games there for the foreseeable future.
@@cowboywayne35 That really sucks man, i'm sorry to hear that. Please know that fans like that don't represent all of us. It's a real shame that you had to deal with that.
Anaheim saw your jersey ranking video and decided to do something about it.
??
Man those Hawks jerseys just look so good every single time. The hand stitching is second to none.
Its hard out here taking L after L being a Flames fan right now.
Thanks for existing THG. Having a bad day and just turned you on in the background and ten minutes later i'm smiling.
If even The Hockey Guy can't justify buying one of those wwe cup belts... then NOBODY can justify buying one of those belts then lol.
they're like $700... I can't blame him
@@Venture143so the price of 2 jerseys?
@@Venture143 So about the cost of one poorly made jersey.....
Lukes running into the reality of the internet - those trolls who think they are tough-skinned are usually sad individuals with the thinnest skin in the game
I literally had to back out of every last Canucks Facebook groups I was in and unfriend people because of the toxicity there regarding the Canucks/Oilers series. People commenting that I wasn't a real fan because I wished the Oilers well and I thought the vitriol between both fan bases in that series was out of control and borderline embarrassing. I posted one thing trying to be fair to Luke Gazdic, basically saying something similar to your comments, and I got destroyed and had people private messaging me to attack me. I had to block a number of people I talked to regularly there. A few years ago, I decided to give up things that hurt me, and if I have to give stop talking to some people because of it, no big deal. I get that Oilers' fans didn't support the Canucks in 2011. But why do I have to do something purely out of spite? I just want to see a good hockey series. Given that I faced my own attacks for trying to be fair to Luke, I completely get where he's coming from. When people say horrible things to you and you're not used to it, it does affect you. I've taken a lot of bullying in my life, so I just decided not to put up with it.
Damn right. The series has not evem began-:May the best team win-
Oilers fan here, at age 11, I was cheering for yall in 2011. Hated the Canucks this year because yall were so good 😂 but it was a fun series and fun rivalry. It’s stupid how adults are getting so heated over who others cheer for.
And for what it’s worth, yall have a bright future ahead of yall
Zadorov leaving the Canucks would be a major blow. He was their Pat Maroon.
People insanely undervalue this role. Boosts morale for his team, tilts the opposing team, and brings the heat needed in the playoffs.
Sports entertainment is so lame in Canada. Can’t even call a team trash without fans actively trying to get him fired. Compare Luke’s comments to an average Steven A rant and it’s laughable
Wtf does any of that have to do with Canada???
Absolutely ridiculous.
It’s giving me secondhand embarrassment; the thinnest of skins. So many hockey fans do love to talk about being intrinsically tougher etc etc than e.g basketball, ad nauseam, yet can’t cope with a couple of minutes of a guy being pissed off. 😬 So I can only assume the equivalent of Barkley’s opinions on San Antonio would cause protracted conniptions 😂
Yea cancel culture sucks.
Comparing to Stephen A Smith is not a good comparison. People tune in to watch specifically for him and his personality. Nothing against Gazdic, but noone is tuning in specifically for him.
It’s wild that people complain that some announcers/analysts have no personality. But when they show personality, fans go “No no, not like that 😡”
Like unless he starts calling people actual slurs on the podcast, let him be
I don’t think Vosters’ issue was “personality.” Rather, he didn’t understand the sport, would incorrectly describe on-ice events frequently, would awkwardly and sarcastically badger Pang, and there was one point when he opined on-air about wanting to switch to broadcasting golf.
I personally don't care which teams you root for. I do think you are hands down the one to see on game info and you mostly have the right take on league penalties and suspensions! Thanx for all you do on the game's!
Gotta be great to be a Flames fan. All the players you love are leaving town. And all the ones you wish would go, are staying. Like, a long time. Ooh...
Got no interest in buying a wrestling belt in any configuration. Seems silly to me when teams have them. But, I'm old.
Mom's a Phillies fan and Dad's a Eagles fan. Got them both for them. The belts are insanely high quality, very pricey for sure, but you definitely get what you pay for with them. I will be buying a Philadelphia Flyers belt when it's made available.
It's easy to say that Luc Gazdic or any other commentator had a short NHL career, in Luc's case, he's still played 10 more years of professional hockey then 99% of the people mad at him. Certain fans need to grow up.
Vosters being gone is the best news I've heard in a long time.
Tuff to say about a guy trying to live his dreams but I definitely feel like Ball will be a big upgrade
Markström, Saros, Ullmark. There's some serious chad goalies on the trade market right now.
As a Kings fan, I'm impressed you knew enough about Thomas to be able to talk about him with an accurate perspective. I think he should be on the roster based on how he played. Thomas is an example of a good player who could have been on the team if he had a bit more of a chance.
I hate being a Flames fan these days
They'll get back into it, man. Keep your chin up.
Happy for Akil Thomas! Used to watch him play with the Niagara IceDogs and he is a hard-working player.
Ball also called games for the Canucks for several years
Rick Ball also did Canucks games (and BC Lions CFL football games) on Team 1040 radio in the 2000s. He was pretty good back then. Chicago should enjoy him. He's pretty familiar with Chelsea Dagger. LOL.
The combine means nothing imo remember that guy named bennet who could only do 3 chin ups…. Yeah back to back finals kinda erased that
I was in an arcade "bowling league" and we used WWE belts for the winners. Beer makes you do weird things.
Man I am going to miss Rick Ball. He was amazing in CGY and I can't imagine flames games without his commentary
As an Oiler fan, not having to suffer through Ball for the Flames home games is huge
Luke has been Excellent on HNIC, people need to Chill out. Obviously Luke, and Craig being former Oilers are going to lean that way. Cuthbert has been an Alberta homer for years too. Canucks had Robson and Hughson, they have been retired for a bit. In broadcasting I think near anything that gets people interested, watching and talking is a good thing. I wonder if Rick Ball didn’t feel secure with Rogers and Sports Net? Who knows what is going to happen with the next television deal. As far as the final goes, having the bring the Cup back to Canada angle, as well as McDavid and Draisaitl being involved as two of the most skilled players the game has seen is a win win for the league. I don’t mind either team or organization, so I’m pretty open minded about whoever wins. Plenty of deserving players and coaches that have put their time in on each side. Too bad for Dallas, Deboer, Benn, Pavelsky, Suter, Tanev, some great vets there that it would have been nice to see them with a chance in the final. But that’s how the puck bounces.
Love the Razor shout out! Us Dallas fans have been spoiled for years.
I think it's pretty funny how Canadians are stereotypically nice folks, until you start talking about hockey 🤣
Shannon, I find you very fair and balanced as a presenter. If people are giving you grief, they're offside! Don't let them grind you down!
Saturday Nights Main Event: Game 1🏆
Darryl Reaugh played for my beloved Binghamton Whalers (AHL) early in his career
I loved going to Whalers games as a kid.! I love how they basically rotated the Hartford logo 90 degrees to make a “B”, I loved how they also used “Brass Bonanza” too.
I was completely devastated when they got swept by Baltimore in the ‘85 playoffs - I was totally convinced that team was going to hoist the Calder Cup. I miss Binghamton having an AHL team…
You are THG!!!! You’ve got to get a belt!
If Zadorov takes some deal that’s closer to $5mil/season times 5 or 6yrs, then we keep him, but if he wants $6mil times 6yrs, then probably not.
Luke is a stand up guy. It was actually nice to see him not just ignore it but actually say something. Did it piss off all the Canuck fans yes it did but why do they get to go around and say crap about Luke and the team and just get away with it. So go cry some more your out of the playoffs and the Oilers are still in deal with it Luke didn’t lose you that series.
Gaz is the man. So happy for him and how he's doing as well as he is.
Theres a company that does custom belts that are affordable. I actually had a belt made to use as a 'Player of the Game' for the ice hockey team I coach. The kids love it. Its been a big hit.
The fan-base vitriol between Vancouver fans and Edmonton fans was brutal, like over-the-top. The EDM-DAL series was a lot more chill, like 10x more chill.
Luke is good an analysis, this should blow over.
I actually kinda would love a Blackhawks WWE Belt. With that iconic logo in the middle. That'd, be. Dope.
Have fun.
Never heard of Luke until he popped up on Sportsnet a few weeks ago.
As a Bruins' fan wanting to cheer for a team from the West as well, my choice was Vancouver until 2011. The behaviour of their fan base during and after the playoffs soured me on the franchise. I didn't really have a western team until I decided to get in on the ground floor of Las Vegas, which has been a fun ride.
Shannon gonna do a wrestling-style promo with those WWE belts in tow.
Hey Shannon - if the Canucks ever win the Stanley cup you HAVE to purchase a WWE belt!
WWE title belts are gawdy. This will be awesome.
"what am i gonna do with a belt" *looks behind Shannon at mountain of memorabilia*
as a WWE/wrestling fan, I figured that WWE would one day do a replica belt deal with the NHL. But also WWE they make bank on selling them, considering how cheap they make them
Turnabout is fair play.
If the belts are used in videos it becomes a business write off on your taxes :)
Don’t know Canadian tax laws, but you can definitely do that down here in the states.
Baller is an awesome play by play caller...boo! Calgary will miss him. He & Hrudey were great together
Made a point to watch many of the Chicago games this year to catch Bedard's play. Chris Vosters was okay, just chalked it up to a weak American broadcast. Coming from the Flames camp, Blackhawks fans are in good hands. Nice to see the team investing in high quality talent now that they have more eyes on them.
Hey THG, what's your opinion on Henry Thrun (rookie Sharks D)? With all of the talent coming up on the Sharks roster soon, Thrun might develop into a key part of the blueline for SJ.
Personally I think his ceiling is second pairing but he's more likely going to be a decent bottom pairing guy.
As a fan of THG since he started and also a wwe fan so weird hearing him say wwe haha
I wonder if the ASL version will still have the commentators talking, because if it doesnt, and I can still hear the ice, I may just watch that
Curious move, as ESPN (not sure about SN) close-captions the games. Hope adding ASL doesn't add confusion to our deaf friends.
Now might be the right time to trade Markstrom if he wants out. His trade value should still be decently high, and the Flames should be able to ask a good price for him. And given the number of injuries he had this past season, that could be a sign he is becoming more injury prone as he ages. It might also just have been a series of bad coincidences, but if the return is good enough, it would be a good risk to take.
Obviously this will put more pressure on both Vladar and Wolf, neither of whom I think are ready to take the reigns as a starter, but the team is in a rebuild, whether they want to admit it or not. They might as well embrace the suck for a year or two, and get the best possible value they can for Marky, while his stock is the highest it is likely to be for the remainder of his contract.
Who else remembers Rick Ball calling CFL games on TSN 1040?.... ahhh the old days with Casey Printers.
Correct me if I wrong i think Jim Kyte or Mike they had hearing problems good for the NHL for this
Who do you think @thehockeyguy the next sharks head coach will be. And why is it taking so long to find/hire one
Per SJHN it's sounding like Warsofsky is the frontrunner.
"Three league sources told San Jose Hockey Now that Ryan Warsofsky is still on top of the list, with one source characterizing Warsofsky as the “front runner”.
Another source told SJHN that it could be down to Warsofsky or Marco Sturm.
Jeff Blashill, Jeff Halpern, and Jeremy Colliton are the other reported candidates so far."
The Zadorov's wife thing, I get it. Usually players go "home", but because of how outspoken Zaddy has been against Putin, his home is probably a vacation or summer spot in North America.
That being said, it probably means nothing, but there's a small chance it is foreshadowing.
(In response to wife's public Instagram post about leaving Vancouver)
Nice belts
I am all for expanding sign language enabled broadcasts but if you are paying attention visually to the person signing you are not actually watching the game (makes it basically a radio broadcast). The between-the-whistles commentary certainly would be useful but I question how helpful it would be on play-by-play. Having said that I have never been in the position to rely on signing and perhaps you develop more of an ability to split your focus when you do it all the time. With the speed of the game I imagine this will be a challenge.
As far as I understand it, this is precisely the reason why many people who need captioning prefer sign language broadcasts over captioned broadcasts: it’s much easier to understand sign language out of the corner of your eye than it is to understand written text
For Deaf people, it won't be a challenge. Plus, CC doesn't convey a change in a broadcasters cadence or excitement, for example, a big hit. Having the ASL will make a big difference in that regard.
Does the NHL not realize that most broadcasters have closed captions for the hearing impaired?
Yeah, I thought that the sign language thing seems like it'd be kinda useless when you can have the captions on. My hearing isn't very good, not at deaf levels, but I have captions on for shows and movies and I can't possibly see how a person doing sign language would be an improvement on the text on the screen.
As far as I’ve heard, some deaf and hard of hearing people prefer content that is signed over captioned. This is because they have to spend the entire time actively reading the captions, and so can’t look at the visuals (in this case, the actual hockey game), whereas they can much more easily understand signs that they just see in the corner of their eye. Also, sign language is much more expressive than written language (just like spoken language), and so you get more out of it that way
CC. Why bother with anything else
Congrats to Baller! Hope he'll return to Vancouver one day.
I hope the Canucks aren't a one hit wonder with the pending massive roster overhaul.
Calling a team trash in a podcast drives attention and debates. Not like he used alurs, insults, or profanity. The society gets so PC nowadays that you can't say anything without offending anyone. It's sick!
Shannon, if the Flyers win the Cup before I die, I'm buying EVERYTHING. Beverage coasters? Sold. Golf balls? Well I don't play golf, but sold. EVERYTHING. That belt would totally happen and I'd wear it to meetings.
Flames really going to run with a Vladar Wolf tandem? Whoa RIP
I don't really see the point of sign language for some hockey broadcasts Even though captions exist
I love our guys at altitude in Denver… Peter Mcnab was also a great! Came to Colorado with the avalanche in 95’. And it’s clear that they’re some of the biggest avs fans on earth. And there’s nothing wrong with it at all. They state the facts both ways. Call out good plays by other teams players and make decent call analysis on both sides. They’re biased for sure but that’s the human condition. It does bother me in general when it’s not our guys covering the game. And especially so when they’re talking nonsense (good or bad) about one team only. But again, I’m biased… so…. Yeah.
What was wrong with Vosters? Didn't really watch many Hawks broadcasts this year
He's young, was inexperienced at calling hockey games, and he's not Pat Foley (previous announcer for 39 years,) whom many fans refused to move on from after he retired. The Hawks wanted him to grow into his job, but he didn't grow fast enough.
The Gadzic situation is that most companies have limits on what their employees can say or do online as it relates to their work.
Ergo, it isn't really a matter of our standards, its policy. If Rogers is good with their employees badmouthing their products, then I imagine Gadzic's commentary about an NHL team is fine. Otherwise, Sportsnet and the NHL (specifically, The Canucks) could look at their contracts and it could get ugly.
Personally, I think Gadzic comes very close to crossing the line on Sportsnet broadcasts if he doesn't already, and as a public figure, he should understand that fans can trashtalk till the cows come home, but he's not just some fan.
I think the situation would be different if the Sportsnet broadcast were a regional presentation. In that case, be as big a Homer as you like ✌️
Belt? No way!
Luke oilers legend! 8 points in 147 games is 🔥🔥 HOF numbers
Baller is a gem. I was disappointed when he left Vancouver.
I'd love a belt......BUUUUUT it's just too expensive. really cool idea though
Regarding Markstrom, I would have to guess besides the Devils, the Canes, Flyers, Wings, Leafs and Kings are probably interested as well.
Me personally, would I want a belt of my favorite team? Yes but I wouldn’t pay for it.
Would I pay for it if I was a CZcams content create to show it off in the background every vid? 👀 maybe
My issue with Luke is that I will have a tough time seeing his opinions or analyses as being unbiased moving forward.
Probert will always have that NHL belt
Don't we already have closed captions? Are they going to have a person in the corner doing sign language? That seems way more distracting for them....unless you're blind we don't even need play by play
I hope Yzerman calls Calgary about Markstrom. Husso + mid tier prospect + mid round draft pick would be fair considering Markstrom's age and cap hit.
Vosters will definitely land on his feet doing PxP for a different sport. But I'd be shocked if he went back to hockey. At least not on a full-time basis.
Imagine signing all those complicated names!!
It depends, you should be allowed as an announcer to be a homer for your team.... when you are an announcer FOR that team. But when you are an announcer on a national broadcast that supposedly is for all of Canada, you better at least /appear/ to be neutral and keep your comments about other teams to a minimum. That said, Canucks Twitter/X has been a cesspool of trolls for years now and Gadzic should have expected the backlash and/or just ignored it. I'm a Canucks fan, and I expect the chirping from other teams because of how bad we've been over the years, but the thin skin on both sides of Canucks and Oilers fans is ridiculous and I can only imagine how bad it would have been had the Canucks been the one to go to the Cup with comments about when's the next riot or such.
That is way too much money for freaking NHL belt with your favorite teams logo on it. I see the appeal, but it's way too much money.
Daryl Reugh was also good at imitating Howie Meeker and Elvis.
To each their own but a WWE Stanley Cup title belt seems rather odd to me, I'd much rather have an NHL jersey with a Stanley Cup patch sewn onto it and a WWE replica belt that's actually used or been used in that particular promotion.
Thank god, I've been wondering why Vosters was hired since the day they got him!
happy flames fan here, couldnt stand rick, but then again i was a big dougie fan
I'd pitch in for Shannon's birthday belt... better than paying full price and never using it/seeing it/potentially losing it.
Man if Detroit could get their hands on Markstrom I think that instantly puts them in the playoffs and being a contender.
If Cole signs with a new team it'll be NHL team 9....We could open up Sillinger watch!
Ah the Columbus Flames, what a thought to behold.
