Everybody expecting a tip for doing nothing is ridiculous ! You have every right to rant , and did you notice that they add a 4 or 5 percent extra if you use a card instead of cash. ❤ from NY
I totally understand this. I’m going through a self healing by eating more fruits & veggies,staying hydrated etc. Our job is so demanding and we really have to take care of ourselves. Thank you for being transparent ❤😊

I agree with you about the excessive tipping requests at places you serve yourself...restaurants like that I may leave a dollar if anything. RANT away, we've all needed to unload at times. I think you are honest and refreshing.

I appreciate your rant. I was also in the service industry, we counted on the tips for the majority of our pay. I feel that some companies and or workers are taking advantage of the notion of tipping. I am also in an industry that has layovers and I feel the same as you with eating fresh food rather than cold or reheated stuff. The vlog was very entertaining and really gave us a great look at Vera!❤❤
Last week I went for breakfast and they now add a fee if you pay with a charge card. Then I went to a hip pizza place that just added a fee without warning me plus having that touch the tip pad. I was a server for years. Don’t kid yourself, they’re making more an hour than you or I ever did. Check your bill before you pay!

Love this, this vlog spoke to me on so many levels especially having only been on the line for a few months, the struggle is real out there especially since being a working flight attendant actually costs money if you want a quality of life WITH a harmonious balance. In the end I just end up blowing up my budget for my own personal happiness cause at the end of the day NO ONE wants to see a cranky flight attendant....especially not me lol 🤣

I just went thru this weird exhausted period where I just dragged myself everywhere, to work, to do laundry, to take Sophia Loren and Angelina Jolie up the hill to the vet on California Street, to Trader Joe's, I mean was struggling majorly. I thought that a severe depression had hit and finally I dragged myself to the doctor today and they ran a whole bunch blood and my iron levels were on the floor!!! 🙀I was shocked, still am as I write this. I will probably need injections but it's good to get a check up and make sure all your P's and Q's are OK. We all care about you because you are simply fabulous, sweet and so honest. Your vlog is very refreshing!!👏👏👏👏👏🤓😻

Wishing you the absolute best! And yeah, prices, tipping, etc, i.e. everything we spend on, is crazy nowadays. There is now almost an 'expectation ' for a tip like it is absolutely deserved even if the recipient does nothing for it. I've lived in New Zealand and Australia where there is no tipping - just a more reasonable wage - and I think that is a better model. OTOH, no one wants to exploit people and free-ride. So it is tough.

Oh when it comes to coffee shops I always leave at least a dollar. It’s the 20% at a food place where I’m not being served that is ridiculous to me.

Hello Vera!!! I love the Ralph Lauren vintage tshirts like the one you find. The quality is really insane. I went on a trip from Spain to Norway in my car. Long journey. I remember that in Oslo I crossed one street and in from of me was a official place of Helly Hansen (H&H). The best one I ever visited in my life. I wanted to buy the whole place. Everything I saw was better than the last one. I know very well that feeling that you have to spend your money when the things in from of you are great. It's difficult to keep your wallet close. I agree that the employers are not paying enough to the employees. Just that simple. I agree with you. In Europe you stop to a place for dinner or whatsoever and the price in the menu are close. No surprises at the end. If is expensive, then continue to next place till you find one that fit with your budget. And of course if the service is good you can l let tips. And yes, Vera, you have to work so hard to earn every cent, no matter if the people think that life flying is in the clouds. I spent three years of my life as a cabin crew and I know what I'm talking about as well as you. Is just another job but with the best views you can imagine. But very demanding physically talking. Nothing come free in this life... there are sacrifices believe it or not. Have a great day and smile... you are on the air!!! Bye!!!
Absolutely San Francisco is expensive. I've been to a place that charges a seating fee.

I have stopped going to places like this where you basically do everything for yourself and yet they expect a tip... its like they are giving you the finger. Yeah, hell no! I find that actually cooking at home more and actually enjoying it.

S, we picked them up it was $50.00. We are a family of 3 and our weekly grocery bill runs around $300-400 weekly and we are not buying things we don’t need. By the way I live in Northern California, about an hour n half from S.F. Take care of you. Much love!

I like what you said about the excessive demands on tipping! I recently read an article about how its gotten out of control; where everyplace expects a tip. What's next: a doctor spending 5 minutes on you and then giving you an Ipad to select your tip? I call this the "Guilt Tip", a petty cash extortion! What I started doing was declining and giving an appropriate amount in cash! Don't feel guilty, it was the establishment that put you in this uncomfortable position! I understand the struggle, my airline like yours, has not kept up with the rising inflation! Im topped out at 23 years and I'm making 2018 wages in 2023. I don't know how you do it living in Boston and laying over in SFO. I feel a difference between laying over in LA vs Lubbock. Anyway, hopefully getting it "off your chest" helped and improved your trip?❤❤

I'm in Southern California and all of the. Fast casual restaurants are adding automatic tips. It's ridiculous because they pressure you to sign quickly and if you don't see the tip, you're screwed

I personally feel that if people who work in the establishment did absolutely nothing for you except to ring up the product that you got by yourself and had to do everything yourself that they don’t deserve a tip! I was also in food service and waited on people and came back multiple times to see if everything was O.K. and I still didn’t always get a tip! ❤️😎🌞

Great story about tipping. You work a 6 hour flight coast to coast serving a few hundred passengers meals, drinks, cocktails, snacks, blankets, pillows..... You get the story and you cant accept tips . Someone hands you a brown paper bag with a sandwich and they want a $10.00 tip ????? Whats WRONG with this picture.

@Vera, I totally understand how you feel about things being so expensive, and tipping situations. Don't feel bad about going on a rant. It was justified, and it's necessary to get things off your chest every so often. I'm sorry that you live in a very expensive city and that your fav layover city is the same way. Would you consider moving someplace where the cost of living wasn't so high?
To move the expenses would just add up to the same and I would have to commute further from work therefore work less and and not really vlog :/

I had a complete change in “layover theory” a few years ago and got tired of spending money while at the same time trying to make it. My layovers aren’t as fun but I’m much, much closer to retirement than you so I’m going to save as much as possible so I can retire….all typed while I just ordered Grubhub for $70😅…but that is the only money I’ve spent on a 6 day stretch. It is a struggle to balance the travel and the money…very hard, but try not to stress about it too much. As my husband always says, you can’t take it with you.

I totally have seen the tip thing as well, I was at subway yesterday and it asks you when you check out, to add a tip.... and I am like....huh. I mean ya made my sandwich great, but like why? and the numbers are like 15 20 25 percent.. that's more than the tax; I mean I just say no tip, but lord... my brother hates San Francisco when he was there. everything was so expensive and its supposed to be such a wealthy area (the bay area in general) but he thought a lot of the neighborhoods just looked like they could use a renovation. like run down; which doesn't make sense for such a wealthy area and when things are so expensive. it is like they are not raising the standard of living well. Like things just cost more but nothing has changed.

The tipping is just bizarre, I’m in England, we don’t have mandatory tipping here at all, if we choose to give a tip it’s completely voluntary and can be whatever amount. If you choose not to tip that’s perfectly normal too.
Tipping isn’t mandatory here it’s still curtesy. It’s just more expected.
Honestly still cheaper than when you are stuck eating from the hotel 😂

As someone who travels internationally quite often, it boggles my mind that not only is it cheaper overall when NOT in the USA but we don't add tip to anything and everything. Every time I travel, it feels nice when I am not being asked to tip but then I have to come back to the USA. Not sure why you are working so hard as a FA and doing youtube as a "trust fund baby" because you know, that is what trust fund babies do. Hope you are well now!

Mostly but not always. I’ve been to multiple Canadian cities. French Canadians have told me themselves tipping is different for them.

We have different i care about quantity food over stuff. I had a “roommate” that’s flies” for 6 years and you’re right it didn’t last forever thankfully.

Haha that’s okay, really the only rule of thumb is if you receive service at a restaurant it’s custom to leave %20 on the bill. Most servers are completely reliant on tips for income.
