    I have one female leopard gecko (Rosalind) that NEVER uses her moist hide. She always gets stuck shed, and I have to soak it off because she's untamed. Once she had a piece over one of her eyes that I couldn't get off, so she went half blind for a week. I soaked her, tried peeling it, and everything. Eventually she got it off, but it scared the crap out of me that Rosalind might go blind. Good news is these days she seems to be shedding better, but still never uses her moist hide.

    • @fionashepley478
      @fionashepley478 Před 7 lety +8

      If the moist hide is on the cool side, she may use it if you put it on the hot side (it'll be safer, too). Or maybe she doesn't like the type of hide

      Pill Cosby don’t get any reptile from big chain pet stores (like Petco and petsmart) because of the incorrect husbandry and the fact that they get them from mills. If you get a reptile from them you are supporting the mills which will breed more reptiles which will make more animals that die in the mills.

    I've found that really difficult skin on toes will come off if you gradually roll a wet Q-Tip in the direction the shed is supposed to come off, against their toes. It doesn't initially look like it works if it's really tough, but if you continue to work at it with them, this method is inevitable. Same thing with tough shed along their spine that won't otherwise come off with the rest of their skin. Very, very helpful tip I read on a fb community.

    Why don't you just give her a shed box? all you have to do is take a container cut a gecko sized hole in the lid or side and put damp moss in it. So they have an area with good humidity to go into and help. You can also add some cork bark in the shed box to assist with shedding

      Hey I was wondering if maybe in a future video, you can do reasons why a gecko isn't pooping? My gecko eats great, isn't lethargic, isn't sick, but doesn't poop. It's been 7 days now. Tried everything. He is special needs (technically - dwarfism). Have an aching suspicion that his bowel issues are owed to genetics. Longest he's ever gone with no poop was 10 days and it didn't seem to affect him at all, but stressed me to the max.

The worst was when I went away for a few days and when I came back he has his eyes covered with shed he was trying to get rid of, when I got it off his eyes were covered in a puss like substance. I was devastated thinking he was now going to be blind but it cleared up a hour later and he was fine.

    I find that if I give mine a bit of a bath in the sink on a safe spot with a good paper type towel used for mechanics ( the blue paper heavy duty towels as these get wet nice but don't fall apart) with a bit of a gentle shower, then when I pick them up I gently rub the toes and it comes right off after a warm soak. Far less stress and they seem to love the warm water. Once done I gently wrap in a towel and check under them to make sure no skin has stuck to the vents. I learned that the hard way, as I did not check that only to regret it later! Poor fellow! I just found out a new product in your video, so thank you once again:)!

    Are you offering high-humidity humid hides? I've never had any shedding issues with either of my leopard geckos. They both have humid hides that are very high in humidity. Even now that's its breeding season and Bonita is shedding much more often, she's still not having any shedding issues. If you're geckos are repeatedly having this issues you should really try bumping up the humidity of their hides.

      They should all have access to proper, enclosed (read - one small entrance rather than a tunnel) humid hides at all times. It is most common in my experience that Leos will choose a suitable warm humid micro-climate to sleep in during the day over any other choice of hide if provided with one.
      The lack of nutrients in the diet, while a factor, is far less likely to be a cause here than a lack of a humid place in which to sleep / shed.

      @Zuxeh Před 7 lety +5

      You being diurnal and your Gecko being crepuscular means you are essentially on completely opposite schedules. None of us can hope to watch them all the time, his choice not to sleep there is not indicative that he never uses it however.
      That said I appreciate there are exceptions to almost any rule, and some Geckos will avoid them for reasons better known to themselves, the point is, if they should need or desire one, it should be there. It is up to us as keepers to provide everything they might need, not decide we know what that is better than they do.

    My school’s science teacher has a gecko that looks JUST like that 😂 his name is Geico lol he’s the exact same color as her tail too, the marks are obviously different and his pattern is darker, his tail is thicker too but cute! I LOVE these things!

    a great thing to do which prevents bad sheds is giving them a humidity dome filled with moist coco fiber- the acidity of the cocofiber helps keep their skin soft and makes shedding much easier, you'll find your geckos like this alot better, in arizona you can open water meters and find dozens of banded geckos clustered in them.

    Freddy has actually had very smooth shedds recently and I'm very pleasantly surprised by it. Well, I say that now but he is mid-shed at the moment and now that I'm so confident something is bound to happen this time. Wish me luck😂

    My leopard gecko has tough sheds as well, especially around the toes. What I'll usually do once he's gotten most of it off is place him in a large, shallow container of warm water, then use a q-tip to remove the loose skin from his toes.
