I'm a nurse and the hospital security and personnel are used to overnight parking, visitors sleeping in their cars etc. (Especially the ER) Security patrols are routine and video/emergency call lights in the parking lots. My hospital is next to a major interstate and we often have 18 wheelers stay overnight and security doesn't mind and watches out for them. It's not a bad option if you're in a pinch ☺️

Clearwater beach is one of the most over-rated popular with people from the north who dont really know Florida (sorry). Really small beach and surrounded by high rises. I recommend the other coast - wend your way down and explore! So many hidden gems.
"Florida Native" advice here... Just keep in mind that Jan - March is the "high season" in central and south Florida, and March is the busiest month of all. It's next to impossible to not experience crowds. You'll enjoy your new residency much more other times of year. My fav weeks are Oct 15-Dec 31 and April 15-May15 with few tourists and pleasant temps. 🥰

Cute story. 😊 I do worry a bit about a dog running completely free. Nomi is nice, but not everyone is, so the owner should have had a long leash or better voice control, recall training.🐕 If the dog leaves you 3 times, they are not trained.

I have a dog and sometimes feel bad that my dog likes to walk up to people and say hello, but my dog is so sweet and people always love it. But I sometimes still feel bad like my dog is invading their space. Good to know that some people really do mean it when they say, "No, its fine, your dog is cool". This story meant a lot to me!!
Our golden retriever was the same way!! It’s just that she was 80-90 pounds, which overwhelmed a lot of people, especially if they were not familiar with the retriever breed. Most are people-friendly, especially with children, so parents look at the size of the dog and freak out!! Labrador Retrievers are usually more hyper than Goldens, but both breeds are considered people-friendly.

I totally agree with you many times I’ve mentioned to Naomi. Her best friend would be if she went to rescue a dog at the shelter in Florida unfortunately it’s very easy to get a dog out of the shelter this would be her absolute best friend for life I don’t know why she doesn’t do it

You should take the ferry over to Caladesi island for the day. Very quiet there and so big, there are plenty of places to find seclusion from others. The Ferry runs on a schedule so you don't have to be stuck there for the entire day. It's off the Dunedin Causeway in Dunedin (right up the street from Clearwater off Alternate US 19)
I used to live in Clearwater/Largo. If you want a really nice beach that's never too populated, or it never used to be when I lived there, try Fort DeSoto in St Petersburg. Just follow Gulf Blvd south all the way along the shore, you'll pass tons of beaches. Also there are a lot of much less populated beaches north of Clearwater as well. Welcome to Florida.

Welcome to Florida which has been my husband and my new home state for the past year where we retired to after being lifelong R.I. and had enough of cold snowy winters there. We purchased a new home in The Villages in central Florida which I believe is the largest 55+ community in the world with 140k and still growing population. We absolutely love it here, have the kindest and friendliest neighbors, and more activities we can count to participate in. But what we love the most about our new community is it is in a pretty rural area of Florida with much wildlife. That being said, the highlight of our past week was getting glimpses of a horned owl and her two babies that have taken up residence in one of the live oak trees not far from our home. These are the precious and beautiful things we often miss when we get caught up with the mundane things in life that gives us lasting joy from the memories we retain of them. Wish you many more puppy interactions and other joyful events as you continue on your journey.

I was born and raised here in Orlando. You must Remember there’s not many born and raised Floridians (natives) still living in Florida it’s the snowbirds that are from other states that are doing the crazy driving 😅. True Floridians are laid back we chill and we’re not in a hurry at all. Florida is a tourism hotspot and it’s also very clean so enjoy yourself while you’re here. Btw Treasure Island and Sarasota Florida is beautiful as well. ❤

I don't always comment, but I had to say I feel you on the doggy love Nomi. I've only had 2 dogs, once in Childhood & the other as an Adult, and only got to keep them briefly due to life's circumstances....but everytime I get the energy to go walking (I have Lupus) someones Dog always come to say Hi. 💕 I was even in an Office once that rescued a stray cat, and the cat kept rubbing my leg, purring, and jumping in my lap. The people in the Office were Amazed and said that cat was Anti-social and didn't even do that with them, and they feed it everyday. Lol. As a New Yorker I only drive out of sheer need because I really hate driving! I don’t trust other drivers on the road and I avoid highways like the plague! LOL so the thought of interstate travel gives me serious anxiety 😅

Driving in Florida will teach you how to be very patient. You can’t even honk your horn down here and I’m originally from New York so you know I was honking happy… you’re in a new culture … adapting here will take time, but the lifestyle here is amazing…
Clearwater is a beautiful beach, I totally feel the same way when being around crowds. Mornings are definitely best for peaceful beach time. A great spot to day park is either the Nokomis or Venice jetty! The Venice side you can walk to oceanfront beach ! Either one you can Park on water and watch dolphins and boats parade by! Nokomis Cracker Barrel is a secluded overnight
I would love to see you put up a large wall map and put push pins in each city as you visit it. I made a trip from Chicago to San Francisco by train a few years ago and today I cannot even remember what states we went through. Of course, unlike you, we were just passing through and we didn't make the stops you are making but I still think you might enjoy using that method to sort of document your travels.

You must Remember there’s not many born and raised Floridians (natives) still living in Florida it’s the snowbirds that are from other states that are doing the crazy driving 😅. True Floridians are laid back we chill and we’re not in a hurry at all. Florida is a tourism hotspot and it’s also very clean so enjoy yourself while you’re here. Btw Treasure Island and Sarasota Florida is beautiful as well. ❤

I don't always comment, but I had to say I feel you on the doggy love Nomi. I've only had 2 dogs, once in Childhood & the other as an Adult, and only got to keep them briefly due to life's circumstances....but everytime I get the energy to go walking (I have Lupus) someones Dog always come to say Hi. 💕 I was even in an Office once that rescued a stray cat, and the cat kept rubbing my leg, purring, and jumping in my lap. The people in the Office were Amazed and said that cat was Anti-social and didn't even do that with them, and they feed it everyday. Lol. As a New Yorker I only drive out of sheer need because I really hate driving! I don’t trust other drivers on the road and I avoid highways like the plague! LOL so the thought of interstate travel gives me serious anxiety 😅
Yes ma'am the seagulls will nearly attack you for ANY food and they are HUGH!!! Go to the beach early morning the spring breakers don't get up until noon or so, lol! Yes FLA driving is very bad. Most important have the BEST TIME EVER, so freaking proud of you❣️🙏🏽

Clearwater is a beautiful beach, I totally feel the same way when being around crowds. Mornings are definitely best for peaceful beach time. Go straight south from Clearwater on the bottom tip of the county is Ft DeSoto park it is on the gulf and bay you can camp there

A great spot to day park is either the Nokomis or Venice jetty! The Venice side you can walk to oceanfront beach ! Either one you can Park on water and watch dolphins and boats parade by! Nokomis Cracker Barrel is a secluded overnight
Philly: Clearwater is very beautiful in Tampa Bay. The beaches are awesome. The people are very friendly.

I would love to see you put up a large wall map and put push pins in each city as you visit it. I made a trip from Chicago to San Francisco by train a few years ago and today I cannot even remember what states we went through. Of course, unlike you, we were just passing through and we didn't make the stops you are making but I still think you might enjoy using that method to sort of document your travels.
