Life anywhere is not going to be perfect but I can't say that (heat aside) I've ever hated growing up and living here in my going on 33 years of life. I''ve lived in Miami and Tampa (each for half of my life with a total of MAYBE a year or so in Tally on and off visiting my older sister) and have had no problems that were "Florida man" problems. Welcome to Florida from a fellow native Floridian of over 64 years. I was born and raised here, lived 60 years in Miami and now in beautiful Ocala. What a huge, positive difference now. Silver Springs State Park is beautiful. Someone mentioned Juniper Springs as well as trying Mimi's Cafe. I highly agree. Juniper Springs is in the middle of the Ocala National Forest. Check out some of the small towns around here, like Crystal River, Eustis, Mount Dora. I love snorkeling in Crystal River and swimming with the manatees. That is the most peaceful feeling to me. Besides, I consider manatees to be my spirit mammal. Our Springs always remain at a constant 72°. But once you get in the water you quickly acclimate to it. It no longer feels cold, especially with the sun beaming down on you. I too have a fear of gators, actually I should say I have a real respect for gators. However, When I snorkel or swim, I don't go near the brush, grassy areas or canals. I stay in wide open areas and where more people are in the water. I enjoy taking the pontoon boat tours in Crystal River where they take you to also see the dolphins frolicking in the waters. It's a very relaxing and beautiful tour. Make sure to tell them you're military because you will get a discount. Enjoy Florida. I love so many parts of it as well. Oh, and if you want to see another beautiful beach, check out Madeira Beach. It's just west of Saint Petersburg. I found some very secluded areas.
I was born in FL and have lived on Miami Beach my whole life but been toying about moving out of Miami to somewhere else in Florida but don't know where. I want a little land and privacy but not that far from shopping. Glad you found where to go and are enjoying your new home. Best of luck!!
I live and am born and raised in Louisiana. The heat is pretty intense. With heat indices, we have triple digits most days in the summer. It's pretty miserable. Can't survive without air conditioning. The hurricanes are also a major concern. I say this because Florida deals with a lot of the same things And you probably already know that...but just in case....and I'm not trying to rain on your parade with Florida, but I feel that I would be remiss if I didn't tell you to be careful with the heat (in the summer) and when the hurricane season starts June 1st. The good thing is that you are mobile and can get a head start on the road if there is ever a need to evacuate. Just stay aware but I do hope you enjoy your life there♥

Yes as a Floridian DO NOT park any where near mangroves if u don't like spiders,the wolf spiders here are in steroids, sometimes bigger than a cereal bowl and ugly as can be
I love your videos. I lived in Florida for 12 years. Siesta Key beach used to be my favorite but now it's toooo much!!! Hard to find parking, too many people. Beautiful tho. The Sunday night drum circle used to be fun too. Crystal River is very beautiful and peaceful to visit as well. Sanibel Beach in Fort Meyers is amazing! You can park by on the shore and pull out a beach chair and watch the dolphins, boats, birds, etc. Jet's deep dish pizza is pretty tasty as well!!! 😂 I've been a nomad for a year now. I have decided I LOVE Colorado as much as Florida. Too hot for me in Florida now. I travel in my car. The mountains here are so beautiful and peaceful. Stay blessed!!! Love and prayers!
Two things I learned in Florida. Alligators can jump straight up at least 5 feet and, if you see baby gators, there’s a mama gator close by because the babies stay with the mama for about 2 years. If you drive across US41, you will see many gators. It really helped me get over the fear. I completely respect them but I don’t jump at the idea of them anymore. There are some nice spots to stop and learn about alligators along US41. Also, florida’s smallest post office is right along the road.
Its funny because I have lived in Florida for half of my life, and I have never seen an alligator unless I go to Gatorland,. They are scared of people and will avoid you at all costs, unless you stumble onto their nests. Or if they have been fed by the stupid tourists who think its cool.

Love Florida! I lived there for 6 years. I moved to California because I didn’t like working there but truly miss living there. I would totally move back after I retire. Oh yes the alligators, mosquitoes, no-see-ems, all of the lovely critters there. Boy oh boy. I actually don’t miss that. I did see several gators when I lived there but from a distance. They LOVE golf courses.

Welcome to the Sunshine State! All of the springs are around 72 degrees. If you see a gator and it charges at you, run away in a zig-zag pattern. They cannot zig-zag. Enjoy all the beauty that is here, including the alligators. Oh, and make sure you find a place that serves alligator. You'll love it!

All the springs run about 72 degrees year round. Many years ago we found one that they claimed ran 80 but it didn’t feel like it. Brave up and take the plunge, snorkeling/diving/swimming in crystal clear natural springs is great. Research and find one that has the manatees in them! Amazing!

Lol I’m having dejavu from the 70’s ! A bunch of us went camping at Rainbow River and we tubed down it. It was really hot outside so the cold water felt really good. One of the guys in the group had a canoe and he got close to the shoreline, ran into a tree branch and a hornets nest! He ended up just tipping over under water to get away from them! He had to be taken to the hospital because he swelled up so bad, but recovered eventually. The water is stellar though 🥰💜😎
Rainbows springs is absolutely beautiful. There are so many springs in North Central Florida. I live near there. Moved from South Florida 7 years ago. Live out in the country and love it. ♥️👩🦳🌺

you should drive down to the Florida Keys before the summertime busy hits. It is absolutely beautiful and there are plenty of places to stay on the keys as well as Key West. I will give you one tip. Do not spend the night in any parking lot in Homestead Florida. It’s not a good area. That’s not to say it’s unsafe but just not a good place to be parking overnight. However, other people may have had better experiences. Hope that helps.
MI offers the same designation on your driver's license for veterans. It's not just veteran license plates. That designation is becoming more popular thankfully.

You are right, Turtles are slow, but can be fast. We lived in an area where we had lots of snapping turtles, and one minute they would be at one end of the yard, and the next, they would be at the other.
No matter where you go always be sure to ask if they have military discounts. A lot of places do but they don't advertise. It's like you have to ask for a senior discount. I wish you nothing but the best on your new journey. God Bless and safe travels ❤️ 🙏

In our area (Orlando), the Oakwood Smokehouse is great for ribs. And Bruster’s is great for ice cream (made fresh onsite).

The opposite end of US41 is 1,990 miles away in Copper Harbor, MI. Definitely no alligators there, but the scenery is beautiful. 🙂

Love Florida! I lived there for 6 years. I moved to California because I didn’t like working there but truly miss living there. I would totally move back after I retire.
Oh yes the alligators, mosquitoes, no-see-ems, all of the lovely critters there. Boy oh boy. I actually don’t miss that. I did see several gators when I lived there but from a distance. They LOVE golf courses.

Welcome to the Sunshine State! All of the springs are around 72 degrees. If you see a gator and it charges at you, run away in a zig-zag pattern. They cannot zig-zag. Enjoy all the beauty that is here, including the alligators. Oh, and make sure you find a place that serves alligator. You'll love it!

Rainbow Springs was so nice when I went. Love the trails and the spring. That water was cold,cold. But it was so nice and crystal clear.

All the springs run about 72 degrees year round. Many years ago we found one that they claimed ran 80 but it didn’t feel like it. Brave up and take the plunge, snorkeling/diving/swimming in crystal clear natural springs is great. Research and find one that has the manatees in them! Amazing!

I live by the St. John's River and I always go feed the turtles. When you throw food in the water, they will swim right to you. It's so relaxing.

Lol I’m having dejavu from the 70’s ! A bunch of us went camping at Rainbow River and we tubed down it. It was really hot outside so the cold water felt really good. One of the guys in the group had a canoe and he got close to the shoreline, ran into a tree branch and a hornets nest! He ended up just tipping over under water to get away from them! He had to be taken to the hospital because he swelled up so bad, but recovered eventually. The water is stellar though 🥰💜😎

you should drive down to the Florida Keys before the summertime busy hits. It is absolutely beautiful and there are plenty of places to stay on the keys as well as Key West. I will give you one tip. Do not spend the night in any parking lot in Homestead Florida. It’s not a good area. That’s not to say it’s unsafe but just not a good place to be parking overnight. However, other people may have had better experiences. Hope that helps.

You are right, Turtles are slow, but can be fast. We lived in an area where we had lots of snapping turtles, and one minute they would be at one end of the yard, and the next, they would be at the other.
No matter where you go always be sure to ask if they have military discounts. A lot of places do but they don't advertise. It's like you have to ask for a senior discount. I wish you nothing but the best on your new journey. God Bless and safe travels ❤️ 🙏
