Mick Channon. To football fans of a certain era, this name means goals, excitement, and a true legend of the game. But behind his success, there's a heartbreaking story - a story of 'what if?'. A story about how a single motorway accident changed everything…..
Born on November 28, 1948, in Orcheston, Wiltshire, England, Mick Channon was a sports enthusiast from the start, especially passionate about football. His talent didn't go unnoticed, as Southampton FC scouts spotted him early on. Young Mick was a blur on the pitch. Quick as a whip and with an eye for goal, he made a name for himself with his hometown club, Southampton. They called him a goal-scoring machine for a reason - he just loved putting the ball in the back of the net! And you know what, Southampton FC became the stage where Mick Channon truly shone. His debut in 1966 was the start of something special. He possessed the kind of electrifying pace that left defenders gasping for breath. He was also gifted with an almost preternatural instinct for the goal, a sixth sense for finding the back of the net. Soon enough, he was wearing the famous three lions of the England team, showing off his skills to the whole country. - Sport
I remember Mick when I was a very young boy, standing in the Kippax Stand, at Man City (Maine Road ground). I recall his talent as a great Striker, but also for his quirky (and unique to him) goal celebration; when he would run up the wing, with his arm revolving in a 'windmill' motion!! Fabulous guy, both as Footballer and Horse Trainer. Hope you are enjoying your Retirement, Mick - and thanks for all the brilliant memories you left your fans with. God bless! ;-D,
Dylan Freeman,
Man City fan.
Thanks for sharing such a wonderful memory with us, Dylan.
I also stood in the Kippax, remember the windmill celebration and the chants of “beat em on the head” from the cool catz.
I would go back to that era in a heartbeat I was a blue surrounded by my family most of them gone now corner of the Kippax and the North stand Mick`s goal celebrations stick in the memory.
Can't watch the synthesized voice is awful.
This isnt accurate at all, he's doing brilliant. Met him a while ago and he's loving his stables and traning winners.
His son running it all now!
Yet more gutterpress clickbait nonsense, this should be banned.
HOW CAN YOU SAY HOW MICK LIVES IS SAD ITS A INSULT TO SUCH A GREAT MAN
I've met and conversed with Mr Channon on several occasions at the Harrow pub in West Ilsley, where his stables are. This video is a complete load of bollocks. I know he's now handed over to his son, but really, how many people still work into their 70s, especially in the racing game, a truly tough environment. Mick is and always will be a true English hero, not just in one field but two. He's a true gentleman, simple.
A disgraceful concoction of wrong photos and wrong information. I won’t be watching any more videos from these diabolical people again 🤬
Also, he didn't make a so called come back, he carried on playing after Southampton with Norwich going on to win the League (Milk) Cup, then on to Portsmouth. This is an awful video of the Great man.
I stood within the old Kippax Street stand at Maine Road as a youngster and although Mick's stint at City was brief he immediately become the fans favorite for his goals and that unmistakable arm revolving windmill celebration.
.....Mick is still talked about with a great fondness today by the older generation Blues who had the great pleasure & privilege of seeing him play in the sacred Sky-Blue shirt of Manchester City, Mick's time at Maine Road might have been short but He left us with so many wonderful memories and a Legacy to last a lifetime....."God-Bless You Mick Channon, Once a Blue, Always a Blue!".....
A poor video put together by AI with incorrect words and facts
He just got old. It happens to everyone.
Mick was not driving the car, the pictures are not of the car involved.
It’s a left hand drive and it’s a long air ambulance from Doncaster, Yorkshire to Massachusetts, USA!
Jeez, "How he lives is sad" what utter lies!
How Sport Icons lives. now, THAT is SAD. You should be ashamed of yourself.
This great man Mick is actually living really well, in the lap of luxury, having passed his thriving business down to his son.
No wonder you don't want anyone to know your real voice by using a robot. "Press like", never.
Please make your mind up on the pronunciation of his surname.
To be fair, Mick Channon is the guy who repeatedly called Gary Lineker “The Boy Lynn Acher” when he was working as a pundit at the 1986 World Cup.
Computer generated speech is so annoying 👍🏽
I met him in the curragh absolute gentleman did great in football and horseracing
I remember him coming out from maine road stadium when I was going for a trial. He got into an orange mini.
SHANNON 😂😂These guys are a joke
He won the league cup with Norwich
The stage where Mick Chanon (sic) truly shon (sic)
A lot of inaccuracies in this…
Mick looks like he's doing fine to me. He looks great!
I hate AI commentary. Shannon, Chan-on.....wtf
You think they would have taken him to a local hospital not one in Massachusetts.
Every who gets old life is sad according to OP. Hope remembers self in due course.

@@neilpotts7863 I'm talking about the pronunciation
Who on earth was the kid in the Liverpool strip and what was the point of showing him ?
Probably that “Shennen” bloke they talk about all the way through 🤣🤣🤣
Load of shit Shannon was a good trainer and now his son is doing well
An insult to the great mick channon. Southampton legend whos still doing fine.
He was on Granada "Yesterdays heroes" in the early 90s.
"You want to know the only difference between Man Utd and Man city, they had an air crash"
Classless bastard, karma is a bitch eh....
And his team beat your lot in the 76 f a cup final.
A lovely person, who lit up our lives over the years when playing
The pronouciation of his surname is quite frankly embarrassing.
We find it quite accurate!
It is not Chann On it is sounded Shannon!
@@Sport_Icons_WorldWidewell you’re wrong ffs..everyone knows how it’s pronounced.
If he was travelling home from Doncaster before the crash, why is there a picture of Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, USA? As usual some very strange choices of photographs among some good ones. Quality is far better than quantity.
A inaccurate comment to an inaccurate, piss poor piece. Amongst many many things he didn’t finish his football career with a season at Southampton he went on to win the League Cup with Norwich at Wembley then went on to Portsmouth. He’s living a happy life now watching his son carrying on his successful business….what an oaf these author(s) are! 🤬🤬🤬
After that! He went into formular1
Don’t drink and drive
What do you mean by that, he wasn't drinking...?
I didn’t say he was drinking ,I don’t know and I guess you don’t know.I’ll say it again
DONT DRINK AND DRIVE .Get it ?
He has had a great career as a racehorse trainer??? doing just fine🙄🙄

Utter bullshit !
What a load of crap. This should be removed NOW
What a load of rubbish
He wasn’t very good.
Wasnt good at what....?
It’s absolute nonsense! He’s still seen quite happily at race meetings chatting with anyone & enjoying his racing. Also speaking to the media on occasion. And who’s “Shennen”? American rubbish that doesn’t know enough about its subject….again under this kind of banner! 🫣
