Red sauce (meat sauce):
2 tablespoons minced garlic
1 large white or red onion chopped
1 kg ground beef (lean with some fat)
1-2 tablespoons tomato paste
3 cups chopped tomatoes or tomato sauce
1 can mushroom sliced
1/2 c parmesan cheese or any cheese of your choice
Season with salt, pepper, white sugar, pepper flakes
Mornay:
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup salted butter
1 liter fresh milk
Salt and nutmeg, to season
1 cup cheese of your choice (mozzarella, parmesan, processed)
To assemble:
7X10 aluminum pan, or any size and type of baking dish of your choice
Grated cheeses- you may use parmesan, cheddar, mozzarella, quickmelt, or any melting cheese

Explaining rationale of steps/actions ... for better retention
One trick is to put 2 beaten eggs into the mornay or white cheese sauce. Let the sauce cool a bit and then put a bit of sauce into the eggs to temper them and mix with the sauce.
The eggs will help give the cheese sauce more depth and it helps the lasagna to stand up better when baked.
The Greeks do this with pastitsio.
