  • The theme of day one is on Timenergy and The Commons. In the same way that Žižek talks about how a concept can evolve just in how it gets applied to something, likewise I would say that timenergy theory evolves in this event because of three factors: 1. New audience (it always takes on some new clarity with new audiences), 2. Bringing it expressly into dialogue with the commons, which I have never tarried with… I do get into it elsewhere, but never in a sustained engagement… the particularity of this audience, specifically the work that Joris is doing, helped me clarify the difference between The Commons and a commons. Conceptualizing timenergy in relation to The Commons as opposed to a commons is a fruitful contradiction I look forward to getting into more in the future. Especially how I quilt the whole thing by saying that necessary labor is part of the commons. 3rd, and lastly, Owen Cox and Raven of the Dark Renaissance were there. This was only seven or so hours after I had published my response to Cox’s manifesto titled The Paglian Right. So while timenergy and the Commons is the explicit theme, this making myself intelligible to Owen and Raven in light of their engagement with our talks becomes a big part of the rest of this event and the following day. What is it we are doing? How does it relate to things people care about now? Why is Theory Underground so hard to make sense of within the existing framework of assumptions embedded in political subjectivities today?

    When we see timenergy as the emancipation of our true freedom to take our Passions which is a symptom that has been sublationed to a drive that freezes up to to see the unconscious and conscious contradictions and desires giving us back our singularity of being to fill in the gap of our ontology, knowing that we will fail again but through this failure now becomes the life-giving force to keep on going.
    but hey the coca heads gives them something to stimulate the mind on long Bender's😊

    The third "revolutionary" Hegel is my Hegel is well, which I got to from going through the Bernstein tapes and reading Phenomenology of Spirit along with some of the best secondary literature on the book. Actually Zizek made a list of his favorite Hegel books, maybe in a verso blog post, and I used that as my reading list.

    This is great! Thank you all. Would love to hear some of Stiegler's processing sprinkled into these ideas.. > Bifurcate "reconstituting a political economy that reconnects local knowledge and practices with macroeconomic circulation and rethinks territoriality at its different scales of locality; developing an economy of contribution on the basis of a contributory income no longer tied to employment and once again valuing work as a knowledge activity;....

    2:07:00 I think this distinction held between philosophy and speculation or talking about the political, is another name for the split between theoretical abstraction and phenomena. theory as the sort of structure of flows that compromise the whole. Phenomena as the intersecting sphere of those flows on a lower level of magnitude. The best metaphor I've found for this to cement it in my brain is the split between gene and phenotype..as they relate through a process of translation.

    RE Cadell on long-term sexual relationships, I would just point out that from a Lacanian point of view ALL relationships are sexual. First of all I believe the split, speaking subject can never be at one with its sexuality ... But also there is the infamous quote from Lacan Seminar XI:
    “In other words - for the moment, I am not f$%^ing, I am talking to you. Well! I can have exactly the same satisfaction as if I were f$%^ing. That’s what it means. Indeed, it raises the question of whether in fact I am not f$%^ing at this moment.”

    In terms of the human species -- don't forget that the condition of possibility for human existence includes not only the biosphere on this planet, but also the whole ecosystem of other beings that live in our guts. So the way I see it, every human is always-already nonhuman. With that said I have little time for people who like all the other animals but then think humans are the worst thing ever.

    I kinda like Cadell's notion of Commonism and I sympathize with the desire to leave behind toxic signifiers like communism and Marxism. Problem is you're now no longer looking at how capitalist society itself set up certain possibilities for transformation and emancipation.

      @E-cw4il Před 26 dny

      But doesn't also living in a post truth world create conditions in which the better notions of Communism and Marxism can be understood while leaving the toxicity behind?
      The meaning of everything feels like it's up in the air. Decades ago the terms Socalism, Communism, Marxism was viewed as beyond the pail. Today we can at least argue their concepts in a handful of the population.

    The joke is on us there at the beginning, in case nobody noticed it: we really did, for the longest time, think that Bruges was just a different way of saying Brussels. It was only recently that we realized they're two separate cities in Belgium. 😬😅😎

    The popular conception of “left” is such a disaster. Those that carried the banner, and got the most media attention in recent years have done alot of damage. Let alone Stalin himself. It would be nice if universal emancipation came to mind when “left” is mentioned as opposed to gulags, workerism, or racial identitarianism.
    The brit guy for “walls around brilliance” seems to just be describing the already existing ivy league, and its justifications for its exclusion. And he said alot of other irritating things. I suppose how annoyed I was is irrelevant, but what is relevant is how you guys handled him. And the war advocate. Your patience is impressive. A type of militant activism of patience. That should be important to any universalist who MUST lift up EVERYONE including those on the right who may have goofy ideas that will need to be denied. A+ for patience.

      At around 3:57:00-4:00:00, and maybe a bit beyond. It was from the black shirt guy next to the irritating couple with the sassy hats. Black shirt guy calls the EU a failure, Cadell says he thinks a success because it avoids war (simply put). Black shirt guy says "maybe they should (war), because theres a mental health crisis." I dont see how war solves a mental health crisis. I believe Nance mentions the out sourcing of war to Africa. You again exhibit an activism of militant patience, and give him a better assessment of the situation. Some inaudible talk happens, and black shirt doubles down with “Well maybe some little wars here and there!”.
      The 3 in the back behind the couch have alot of obvious grievances about liberalisms failures and faults, but seemingly hop to right wing ideas. Intellectuals, and politically engaged people are foreign to my environment, but I still notice a trend of low, mid, and high brow people all moving to the right in whatever fashion after seeing left failures. Or at least what they perceive as left. Its frustrating. If anything I’d consider anti-natalist sjws (democrats), and the liberal EU to be ultimately rightwing. And the motivations of the "hoppers” to be a kind of cultural distain of liberal norms. Which they trust as authentic left. Which in turn has them embrace a reactionary hierarchical position. Its all just a spectacle of dueling right wingers cultural flavors. You then end up with brits in berets for “borders around brilliance".

    I want to claim that sexual difference also includes the difference between young bodies and old bodies. As one starts getting older and lives through these changes this becomes very clear -- I am not the same sexual being I was when I was 20. And I think the fear of aging and death perhaps causes this aspect of sexuality to be undertheorized. And I do think the question of babies is important but I worry a little about creating a divide between people who can reproduce and those who cannot, social reproduction involves a lot more than just physically making babies and there needs to be room for people who can't physically reproduce to participate in intergenerational projects. In general these conversations make me a little nervous, as I really don't want a Big Other just imposing authoritarian ideas on everyone's relations, whether those are conservative or progressive ideas. I feel we definitely need to stay with the contradictions and tarry with the negative in this space before moving too fast into dogmatic conclusions.
