Right. It's a different world.
Depends on the company. Some companies abuse internship programs to get free labor and never end up hiring them. They let them go at the end and bring in the next intern.
@@Tony-bp1nr or they proved themselves unworthy of being hired.
This scene pissed me off so much because it really is like this in a lot of places. People like that lady really try to gaslight younger people all the time by calling them entitled and spoiled for having the gall to want fair pay for their work. They expect you to go above and beyond and “wear different hats” but still think you should be grateful for low pay or worse, no pay if you’re an intern. The sad thing is that a lot of young people are eager to please when they first join the workforce and believe that they need to sacrifice their sanity and “grind” in order to _maaaybe_ move up one day.
But you wisen up with more job experience and opportunities. Alot of garbage I put up with in the past I wouldn't put up with now.

Modern slavery
I have a hard time watching this without getting angry....
Why? You can always move to another country
Your looking at it the wrong way! Look at it like this, your paying someone to train you by working for free! Nobody gets a kick ass job without the right experience! Instead of wasting your time at low paying jobs trying to get some experience in the field you want! You find a company in that field whether hiring or not and work for free for a certain time! Doesn't matter if they hire you afterwards! You'll have the experience for that field and it will help you out in interviews when telling the employer you worked for free! To them it shows dedication!
That's just plain old slavery. Fuck internships. Like these greedy fucking corpos can't afford to pay someone for work. Basic shit. Do work, get paid. Simple as that.
Most people do, unless they're like this boss bitch.
@@chrisemerson7743 No she did the right thing by leaving the interview. The only thing lost was her time at the interview and possibly gas money. If she had accepted that 6 month unpaid free labor she would of lost a hell of a lot more.
"If you tell me what to do, put me on the fucking payroll!"
This is what every unpaid intern should do .if you are working at a business you should be getting paid. Pay also depends on performance, experience will come in time.
Of course the pay depends on performance and experience but if you give them that excuse the employer will pay a college graduate $15 when they should be making at least $20. They graduated. Pay them like they did. Don't use their experience as an excuse to underpay them.
Pay depends on the contractual agreement between employer and employee. That’s the only agreement
To be honest no. It's a private contract agreement in mutual agreement of services and benefits exchanged. If you agreed to do it for the experience and receive no pay, you protesting like a fool will not help you. Just go get an entry level job somewhere to get experience or generate your own experience for a job you're aiming for, simple.
@@infini.tesimo That's not how many of this works. There are no entry level jobs anymore. You're thinking there's a job that doesn't pay very well but gets your toe in the door to your new career. No. What you would call an entry level job has been replaced with unpaid internships. So you do the job of an entry level employee for little to no pay under the excuse of "gaining experience." It's a scam. Because they actually don't end up hiring you and your "experience" still won't be enough to actually land a job. After 2008 a lot of entry level jobs became internships and locked out a whole generation of college kids from obtaining critical skills at a time they would be the cheapest. Now those graduates have way more responsibilities and can't do unpaid internships anymore.
We have to stop making excuses for bad employer practices.
@@teddybruscietell me something would you pay to contractor that is just learning and do poor work? No. You will take experience one that cost more but will do good job. It will not come to your mind to sponsor someone while is learning. That is why there are not much entry level job. What is a point to pay someone without experience and job skills if I can hire someone with actual skills that give my company a profit? So until customers start to pay for poor work done by workers without experience entry job will be paid poorly. Second thing. People are so willing to take massive loans to „learn” and obtaine bullshit degreese. So why do you expect that company will teach you for free? Treat internship as part of college education… that is teaching you something usefull for a change.
Very rude that boss lady
Clearly you're a bit spoiled

Screw that. Don't work for free.
This new generation will quit on a heartbeat and find a job by Monday.

The senior employees are never really doing anything that complicated. Internships are a complete joke.
Gina Gershon+Aubrey Plaza: I didn't know I needed this combo
I have never understood the concept of internship,it's good for the employer, its a very bad deal for the intern, the only way the intern can do it if they are wealthy enough to work without getting paid
Ideally, intern jobs are supposed to be for college juniors and seniors hoping to build some tangible experience in their fields before entering the workforce, and again ideally tje internship should offer a strong enough incentive, a minor pay wage versus a FTE for wage for starters but also in cases where zero pay is available perks of value to the intern can be considered, some can be goal oriented bonuses for tasks completed or a pre-hire commitment contract with the company if you maintain a set KPI and finish your studies.
Having said that, most companies act like there is only "experience" as they are interns and thats just abusive, offer something of value to THE interns, not value to the company if you expect them to do a better job, or even considering filling out the vacancy in first place
@@nicageekinc.5640 Then pay the college students during the work. If the internship position does actual work that the company needs done, then it deserves pay.
@@nicageekinc.5640 minimum wage laws prevent them from offering the intern a small stipend here in Pennsylvania minimum wage is $7.45 an hour but it's going to be going up to $15 an hour by 2026. Which means that an intern was no job experience whatsoever, will either have to be paid a $0 an hour or $15 an hour for their lack of experience and their inability to actually accomplish anything of value because everyone has to hold their hand. Guess which one the employer is going to offer.
Internships were originally designed to fast track you in to the workplace. If you won an internship somewhere prestigious, you usually "won" a role at the end of the 6 months or whatever. Then it became less competitive and what you got in return was networking/exposure so you might be invited for an interview with them and they remember you. That's still the purpose today except now it's completely exploited.
@@HuxtableKmost internships are partially reimbursed or paid but it's nowhere near a salary

"When I was your age I was being paid to work with a room full of men. Now I expect you to thank me by not getting paid to work with a room full of women."

I see your point, but it's not wage theft if you agree to work for little or nothing. The whole "exploitation" thing in reality is bullsh*t. There are no victims, only volunteers.
@@patricksachs3655nonsense. You need to watch the clip again. No paid positions are offered. If one wants this job, one must agree to volunteer. That’s not voluntary.
@@DrMjenno No, I don't need to watch the clip again. I got it the first time. You actually need to read my comment more carefully.
Btw-your comment makes no sense: "If one wants this job, they must agree to volunteer. That's not voluntary." Um, yes, it is, by definition. Let me know if you can't figure it out.
@@DrMjenno we talkin about that is voluntary because she can just choose not to take the position and look elsewhere. The company isn't required to offer her a paid position. The company has a position for interns and she's not the right fit. Nothing wrong with that she needs to look elsewhere for a job that pays. Screaming and yelling doesn't accomplish anything except guarantee that she'll never work for that company in a paid or unpaid position ever

“When I was your age, I was the only WOMAN in a room full of MEN” 😮 wow. Stunning and brave. Followed by “none of us are out to get you” after implying that when she was that age, everyone was out to get her. Peak gaslighting 😂
I’m glad I live in a country where working for free is illegal.
In this day and age the way it cost to live there should be no such thing as a internship everybody should get some kind of paycheck 100%
The fact that some companies expect ppl to work for them for free is so fucked up. Appartly thy run thire buissenes so bad that thy cant afford to pay ppl while thy train them.
Maybe google what intern means vs job interview. Here I will save you the trouble
An intern is a student or trainee who works, sometimes without pay, at a trade or occupation in order to gain work experience.
A job interview is a conversation which occurs between a potential employer and a job applicant where the employer has the opportunity to appraise applicant's qualifications, appearance and general fitness for the job opening.
So there is a difference when you go in for a interview vs a intern position.
@@Devin-O If a person dos someting for your company you shoud pay them, dossent matter if it is as in training or anyting els, you get labor, you pay labor
@@zignar22 You want to be paid for you're work then go through an inverview and be hired to work. If you are in school and need experience and cannot work that is an intern they are there to learn at the company's expense. So please understand the difference of a interview vs intern.
@@Devin-O If the company need your work you are working, then you can call it what the heck you want, but for me it is work, and it shoud be payed. It might only be filiing and such, but it is still work and shoud be payed. But I guss we will never agree on that, might be becuse I come from a country where internship realy issent used. As for me internship is just a compay there want free labor.
@@zignar22 If the company needs someone to work for them they hire them on for that role that is a JOB.
An intern is a temperory role designed to provide someone with zero exprience of that field a chance or a student who needs experience in that field to pass their class they are in.
So if you want to be paid for working then that is a JOB. If you are getting credit for you're class or have zero experience in the market and want to see if this is for you that is an intern.
Please stop confusing Job with Intern as both roles are not the god dam same.

How are people supposed to work for free for 6 months ? Is this a real thing in america?
Very, very real. In college most of us are expected to find jobs that give us “field experience”
You work for months and then you get a Letter of recommendation 😅 or offered a paid position.
I got a paid job on campus, after my internship, and they paid me so little I was only able to pay rent bc of the loans I took out.
Ghetto. There was ama article, with Times I believe, and it basically talked about how many companies admitted if they started paying their interns we would never make it as they never budget to pay them and budget for free labor.
Imagine having the balls to tell someone that they are clearly spoiled because if they work for you they need a paycheck to survive. Somehow, that is 'spoiled.'
Companies do this to save payroll and get free labor. I started out as a temp and eventually became full time and been at my job for two years. At least I got paid as a temp. Only difference is the benefits

I can't believe some companies still do the unpaid internship lol why would anyone do that. On both sides. They use people for free and like this lady says "al ALL " so she uses people for free work and will only hire one. You should ALWAYS pay people whike training them in. This type of shit is on its way out
Unless it's for a charitable cause avoid unpaid work. It's just a way for companies to sponge free labour and they don't even have guarantee a position at the end of it all. Same with zero hour contracts, you can do 10+ hours a day and still get nothing, it's a scam, avoid.

Internships USED TO BE great. In general, a person gained "real world" experience and unless they sucked at their job, they were hired on(they had a contract prior to starting the Internship). Internships also carried weight on employment applications. Then, companies started going through Interns just to avoid paying a salary to an employee. Focked it up for everyone.
As a 10 year old running a lemonade stand, i used "interns" frkm my neighbors who were a lil younger than me, all I knew at the time was they didnt get paid 😂

She went there thinking she was interviewing for a paid position. Unpaid internship is fine for a college student. An adult on their own needs money to survive, that's not asking for a handout, that's asking to be fairly compensated for your time.
