    The Sony 1000XM2 has been the gold standard when it comes to noise cancellation for the last couple of months. The Sony 1000XM2 song great, have amazing battery life, and some great other features. But the 1000XM2 a4rent the best looking headphones and they don't have the best build quality. And thats where the Bang And Olufsen H9i come in. The H9i are premium headphones that have very elegant design, quality materials, and they also have a few stand out features. The BEO H9i aren't perfect, but they preform so well they might be better than the Sony 1000XM2 in certain situations.

    I had the chance to listen to both the Sony and the B&O side by side for quite an extended time and it was immediately obvious after the first song I listened to that the B&O was better. And the more songs I played to compare them, the more the Sony sounded like a joke next to the B&O. Bass was deeper, more rumbling, more resonating, the mids were more forward and more isolated, the treble was more sparkly and more extended just enough to give that impression of detail but never fatiguing, the soundstage was also way wider with B&O and the instruments were more separated. It's doesn't take an audiophile to notice the difference immediately in favor of the B&O. It's like the Sony sounds okay when you listen to it by itself, but once you compare it to the B&O and you go back to the Sony, the Sony suddenly sounds muffled and compressed. The difference was night and day that I can't believe some people would claim the Sony to sound better based purely on subjective claims. The B&O simply sounded better on all frequency ranges including soundstage and instrument separation. I do agree though that Sony was more comfortable and the ANC was a tad better, but the B&O was not far behind in those two aspects either. If you can afford it, get the B&O. The sound quality alone was enough to justify the price gap in my opinion. Not to mention the build quality in which the B&O just wipes the floor with the Sony.

    I have the H9i's. Love them. Keep in mind, B&O are a designer brand as well. You pay extra for the name, AND for materials. Although, I would never trade them for anything less than the next B&O's in the series.

    Thanks for the thorough comparison! I think it's also worth mentioning that H9i have replaceable ear pads. With both fastest-wearing components being replaceable, they could be viewed as having multiple lives. From my experience with many types of studio headphones, I know that this is very important with a larger investment. Every couple of years, I replace cables & earpads on my AKG headphones, and they're like new. That's good economies :)

      I've replaced the earcups on my 6 year old H6's and breathed new life into them. Still the most comfortable cans I've worn. Also got a Bluetooth adapter so I could use them with my iPhone Xs as well. But, it's nearly time for an upgrade and I think the H9i's might be them. Curious to see what next year will bring and whether H10s are around the corner.

    I agree about the carry case for the H9i, B&O are charging a fortune to purchase the case separately and I think that’s bang (and olufsen ) out of order.

  • @jaegervand2112
    @jaegervand2112 Před 4 lety +1

    The B&O is superior in every regard, save noise canceling. Actually they are superior to the XM4 too, offering a much wider, more precise soundstage, mids that rivals many cabled headphones in the same price range, and better low end - we`re talking extention, texture and quality, not mid-bass bloom. Also they sound incredible when connected by cable. The only downside, as far as I`m concerned is the slightly harsh low treble, but this is partly "repairable" with the surprisingly transparent app controlled eq.

      Its something to remember that B&O put hardware design first, sound second and the rest following. They are not what I would consider a high fidelity audio company, but more of a mainstream boutique. Sony also has a lot more experience in their hardware with this type of technology. However, Sony's MDR 1000x have quite atrocious audio quality that is quite muddy and centered imaged. Its not cohesive like the more controlled H9i.
      So you're paying for the material/design which is the reason for the markup.

    Both headphones are super well done, a premium feels, maybe the Sonys are slick and H9s more rugged real leather look which I like very much.. On sound the SONYs are made for music with a lot of filters, when I listen to my microphone, my voice sounds muffled and unreal, and still, the bass is not that impressive on them.
    The B&o definitely has the better and has the upper hand in the audio department, and the bass is the best I've heard among the headphones I've ever tried, and that is why I use the brand as my main headphones.

  • @ABSVabeautifulsunsetvlog

    On the Sony’s I don’t like the fact that you can’t change the directional settings (front, side, rear sound) without all of the other equalizer settings automatically turning off. So let’s say you customize your EQ settings and then want to hear those sounds in front of you, you can’t do that!!! That stinks in my opinion...

      @박근우 I have had both for a week and I have to agree. Although the ANC on the Sony's is "all-time" great, the H9i sound profile is incredible. It's firm, punchy and clear, whereas the Sony is the middle of the market sound profile, very "boomy" (which is fine) and lacking in detail.
      And the H9i's are built to last..., for me, that has a lot of value. Next month, I'll buy an extra battery and have 36 hours of playback available. Good for years of use.

    I have spent hours and hours listening to every popular Bluetooth headset over the last couple of days. I’ve finally landed on the B&O H9i headphones. I found that the Sony 1000xm2s were not very versatile. I listen to a wide variety of music from classic, to jazz, to hip hop. When listening to the Sony 1000xm2 they did ok when listening to some genres but fell on their face when listening to hip hop. The 1000xm2 sounded very muddy and had a hard time separating bass, mids, and highs. As for the Bose QC35 as well as the 1000xm2 they just didn’t have the wide sound sound stage that the H9i provided. Although I must say the noise cancelling was better on the 1000xm2 the sound quality was inferior to that of the H9i. Sound quality over all genres of music. 1. B&O H9i 2. Bose QC35 3. Sony 1000xm2.

      Aaron Bueno not when you consider B&O are not cheap plastic, synthetic leather. The H9i soundstage is miles better than Sony. That synthetic leather is a sweatshop waiting to happen

      @AscendedSaiyan3 Před 6 lety

      Because they are designed to keep the sound almost the exact same, between the two modes. The goal was to make the headphones sound like they would in the quiet of your own home, but while you're on the go.

      Erkan Topuz I have tried both of them. I currently use the Sony's simply because overall quality is better. I listen to EDM music so the extra bass and vocals work much better for me. I only charge my headphones about 3 times a month if that. plus when you use the aux cord, omg the headphones sound much much richer and clearer!

    • @magician560
      @magician560 Před 6 lety

      You’re paying for the branding when you get B&O . You’ve to also consider B&O are targeting even more high end users so they won’t sell as much as Sony’s , so they’ve to charge higher to compensate for the obviously lesser sales .
      B&O are more ex , but frankly speaking , you get what you pay for doesn’t apply here . Sony is the safer bet if you want a more rounded experience .

    • @Eleventhearlofmars
      @Eleventhearlofmars Před 6 lety +1

      Legendary Wizard I’d disagree with that, you do get what you pay for with H9i, I want headphones to last and build quality of H9i isn’t plastic, plastic is cheap material which Sony use, they also use horrid synthetic leather, sound is much better on H9i, but I just wouldn’t go with plastic headphones, it’s like choosing a ford cortina rather than a Porsche lol

      No brainer. B&o every time. The price reflects sound and build quality, which the beats are massively overpriced for. I suppose it depends on your listening experience. You pick the headphone that suits your needs and budget. I'd wait and spend the extra money on the b&o's.
