    finally, a proper comparison video. Thanks! I may disagree with you on one point that the HD1 feels like it would easily come off the head. They feel pretty secure on the head. Haven't experienced anything like that. Although you have to re-adjust the headband regularly as the speakers do slide on the metal rail over time while wearing them

    I just got some PXs since they’re on sale and with the current firmware the proximity sensor is working great. No issues at all. I’ve heard it’s been massively improved with firmware updates.

      I agree that they sound a bit better out of the box, and you can tune the H9i to match your taste. However, no amount of sound quality can make up for an uncomfortable fit if they don't work for you.

    • @Cozmozmoz
      @Cozmozmoz Před 6 lety +4

      I agree with the sound. I honestly never wanted to touch wireless/ ANC headphones as I've been using regular over ear headphones all of my life in audiophile products. But with some recent air travels I've needed to look at some to ease discomfort with bulky headphones.
      Coming from closed back headphones like like Mr Speakers Aeons, Audeze El-8c's, ZMF, I knew sound fidelity was going to take a back seat over noise cancellation features. I tried the likes of MDR 1000x, B&W PX, Senn Px550s, Senn HD1 wireless, M&D MW60, and B&O H9i, I had a good scope for comparison. Out of all the headphones that have ANC in the list, the B&W PX and the B&O H9i have what I would consider the better sounding response with ANC and other features combined. However, the PX's suffer from a heavily congested sound with ANC on, are quite dark sounding and are too forward. They suffer from a similar lack of soundstage as the MDR 1000x, but have much better imaging and neutrality. The H9i's in my opinion are the best at maintaining sound fidelity with ANC on while keeping its fun sound signature present. This is important because you are more likely to lose bass frequencies on an airplane due to cabin noise and general noise floor. The H9i's extend deep enough to to sub bass, and are present enough to still have a satisfying listening while in a busy environment.
      The HD1's, MW60's, and PX550's are have nice fun signatures that image accurately, but have features that are lacking over the rest. The HD1's have an always on ANC that cant be turned off, the MW60's do not have ANC, and the PX550's ANC is not very effective.

    These are all wireless anc headphones again. Price is not a concern and you want wireless anc headphones? Just get the 1000XM3. If you want good headphones, period, there are vastly superior wired options available. It's a bit disingenuous to call this a "premium headphone showdown" when in reality it's "premium fashionable wireless anc headphone showdown" - wireless anc and, well, plain old headphones are two completely different categories with totally different priorities.

  • @Tobini42
    @Tobini42 Před 5 lety +2

    Thanks for the great reviews! You’re right about design being subjective, the HD1 is by far the best looking of the three to me! I don’t care for the look of the PX at all. The PX wouldn’t even fit my big head. I bought both the HD1 and the H9i. I like the overall look and feel of the HD1 best, and especially like the way they fold up into a small package. The build quality is top notch on both, but the B&O feels a bit more delicate somehow. Comfort wise, they were about the same for me. Both fit my large head, even when wearing a hat. Both worked fine with eyeglasses with no sound leakage. The sound quality of both were excellent. I compared them with NC on since the Sennheiser NC can’t really be turned off and I use NC most of the time anyway. They both get equally loud. The H9i sound is just a bit better, but it was pretty close. The NC is decent on the Sennheiser, but better on the B&O although there is a very faint hiss on the B&O that’s noticeable between songs and sometimes on very quiet tracks. The B&O controls are more user friendly in my opinion. I prefer the simple beeps of the B&O to the voice feedback on the Sennheiser. I found the B&O app useful for setting the EQ to my liking. There were two Sennheiser apps in the  App Store but neither could detect the headphones for some reason. The B&O also wins points for the replaceable battery and the standard audio jack. The HD1 wins points for coming with a nice case. I really wanted to like the Sennheisers more with their cool (IMO) retro look, but the B&O were the best overall. The B&O was $380 on Amazon, while the Sennheiser was $299 on sale at my local Best Buy (plus sales tax)
    B&O wins for me , but I’d still say it’s a pretty close call and you can’t really go wrong with either one.

    I really wanted to like the PX as I love the design and sound was to my taste, but they’re so buggy. You have to turn off all the head sensor functionality and even then they still have several issues with turning themselves off for no reason. Really frustrating. When the volume button on mine got permanently stuck (one month in) I sent them back for a refund. Going for the B&O now.

    • @Eleventhearlofmars
      @Eleventhearlofmars Před 6 lety +1

      Dave Blendis I sent mine back for the exact same reason switching off for no reason and noise cancelling was crap for price, Bowers and Wilkins p7 wireless are much better than the px, I’ve got the p7s and they’re louder than px and sound better. I’ve just got the H9i and straight out the box they don’t sound great to me but a little run in time I’m hoping they’ll open out more, they can be sibilant on certain tracks and anything with hissy vocals, you can tone that down with the app and warm the sound. Still my favourite headphones though are the B&W p7 wireless

    • @petermekhail149
      @petermekhail149 Před 6 lety

      Dave Blendis had the same issue with the px but it was the anc button which became stiff and nonfunctional after less than a month, what’s really bad is that when I contacted b&w for repair they denied the warranty cause I didn’t get it from them! Never expected that from a respectable company that backs it’s products. Eventually got the master&dynamic mw60 and I must say mw60 by far are the best wireless headphones from sound quality to their amazing built quality.

      Raize yep, I purchased my px from a catalogue company and that is who I dealt with to get refunded, but recently I had to send a set of H9i B&O back because they developed a fault, because I’d had them 6 months I decided to contact B&O to discuss a refund, B&O offered to refund me if I sent them the headphones with no problem, but I sent them to the catalogue firm in the end, so that, to me was comforting knowing I could of gotten refunded by either, even after having them more than 6 months.

The PX do sound slightly better, but the H9i are really comfy & stylish. the transparency mode is very good and no way as much leakage as the px. i just pick up the H9i's going out. also own the wh 1000xm2's which have great ANC, but the H9i's are in another class with build quality. i would not want to drop the xm2's cause of the plastic hinges where as the H9i's are built like tanks. looking forward to your next review.

      Mark Lane, you have a nice selection of headphones. I am interested in purchasing one of them. My priorities are 1.) sound quality, 2.) noise canceling and 3.) phone calls - microphone, as when I am listening to music and a call comes in, I would like to answer quickly without having to remove the headphones. Some headphones pick up too much noise to be heard effectively.
      If you have had experience, which headphones block more ambient noise while on a call? Is the Sony's musical sound much worse than the other two?

      Personal Computer H9i are worth the extra, they’re just luxurious in all departments, build quality is exemplary, sound beautiful, but straight out of box can be a touch bright/ sibilant, the app can fix this. Noise cancelling is excellent, even with nc off they’re ambient nc is vg because of the over ear design and lambskin earpads. Touch controls are also very good once you’ve updated the firmware, out the box it was buggy at first but there was an immediate update and that generally fixed it. Hope this helps 😃👍🏽

      Kingdongdingdongdang a great reply, but I already bought the Momentums, because they were on a massive sale :)
      For a difference, I bought the Bose SoundSport wireless for the gym :)
      I had the B&O a8 a long time ago, so I know what a great build quality B&O have.
      Momentums are fine for now, bought them for 350e. If I paid 500e, I would be disappointed.
      I checked the B&O h9i in the store just for a comparison, and there is a big difference as soon as you touch them.
      Sound is also more detailed and with less noise, but the bass is a little weak for my taste.
      Also, those touch controls on h9i are awesome, I keep messing the song skip song and pause on my momentums all the time.

    The real issue of the PX is the ridiculous amount of sound leakage. Even at a volume set lower than 40%, the people within one meter from you can exactly tell what song you are listening to on a rather noisy train. It's almost unusable and even humiliating in public. So buy the PX headphones if you are going to use them only in your private room and never planning to actually activate the noise cancelation feature outside. Otherwise you will look like a dumb fool with shiny headphones who have no idea what's going on.

    I buy headphones bcos of sound , not anc . If i want noise cancellation , i can stuck cotton balls inside my ears , it cost me 20 cents . Few years back , when anc doesnt exist , you buy for the sound quality . Now , anc has been overly mentioned , as if people buy headphones bcos of anc .

    Tried the mx3 and qc35's. Love the Sony sound, once dialed in, but they look ridiculous on my bald head and my ears sweat within minutes of use. The sound cancelling is the best but it causes my ears to feel uncomfortable. I returned the mx3 today and ordered the HD1's for $250US today. Hope that is a good decision.

      Lamar Jackson The only problem of mx3 is that the volume is so quiet!

    My long anticipated review, and you have nailed it! Great job!
    Also, just another quick question: since everyone says the H9i has distortion at higher volume, about how much of a percentage of volume does it start to distort? Thanks :)

    • @GYMCADDY
      @GYMCADDY  Před 6 lety

      85% and up. But it depends on the EQ settings.

    • @paulshi5974
      @paulshi5974 Před 6 lety

      Thanks. I'm wondering--this can be a trivial question--if you need to crank up to such a volume with H9i's ANC off on a plane so that you can hear the music?

    • @Eleventhearlofmars
      @Eleventhearlofmars Před 6 lety

      paul shi you don’t really need to have volume too high anyway with H9i anc on, I haven’t heard any volume distortion with my H9i either. I’ve had B&W px and sent them back because I thought noise cancelling was poor and the P7 wireless that B&W do sound better , they are definitely much louder than px as well and I own a set of those. I think it depends what type of music your listening to as to which headphones sound better. H9i are definitely on the expensive side.

    I absolutely loved my ivory Momentum 2, but it was just so shallow that my ears were always fatigued from touching its insides. Didn't have that problem with the 1000xm2 or the pxc 550. Had to give it up, but if it only could have a roomier cup while keeping everything else the same, I'd buy it again immediately.

      I would go with the H9i cause the ANC on the Bose has a lot of cabin pressure. But then again, the H9i cost way more than the Bose.

    • @Eleventhearlofmars
      @Eleventhearlofmars Před 6 lety +2

      Simon Wongsuwarn passive is best on H9i because of build quality, the lambskin leather, but all of them have pretty good passive noise cancelling because they’re over ear, but B&O just shaded it imo

    Awesome review thanks. I am very confused as which one to get... I
    Beyerdynamic Aventho, Sennheiser 550ii, Bang&Oulfsen H4,
    Bang&Oulfsen H4 (second generation) or Bowers & Wilkins P7.... I
    really dont care about ANC... I really want to have great sound
    everything else is secondary for me... Can you recommend any one of
    these or something else?

      @canbilgaysahin4302 Před 4 lety +1

      M. Akber Hussain your are asking the wrong question. Sound is subjective. All brands have different personalitys on their own. Beyerdynamic and bang's are smilir bright sound (low bass upfront mids and highs) bangs has a bit filtered sound, kinds smoother sound a bit softy side not hars on the other hand beyers have dark bright sound signature. B&W's are much more controled sound as part from these two, a bit front mid and higs. As i trying to say there isnt any great sound, it is just our personal preferrences. For me beyers are high resolution but boring sound, Bang's are more fun to listen, BW's are kind a feel beyer boring a bit but much pleasent way.
