Advanced Tips and Tricks in Super Mario Maker!

- There are tons of little but useful tips and tricks in Super Mario Maker. A lot of these small Super Mario Maker tips and tricks, don’t fit thematically into any videos. So what we are going to do in this video is to take a look at a lot of these little advanced Super Mario Maker techniques at once. The main things which we are going to discuss are, Super Mario Maker input conversion, basic spawn blocking and interesting invisible block shenanigans, but there will be a couple of other Super Mario Maker tips and tricks as well.

Ceave videos now: The game only loads assets if on camera and a few blocks later so you can unload bullet blasters with automatic triggers for a reverse spawn block!
Ceave, i see you use blocks on rails to trigger bombs, but you can also use flying blocks, which dont leave behind tracks.
That's really clever! :D
It's only aesthetic though. Unless you can do something with the time difference between the two blocks being destroyed, it doesn't matter.

I've used a lot of these tricks in my levels but never knew the technical names for them. I still learned lots from this video, despite SMM being 2 years old!

Awesome Ceave you come up with the smartest level ideas! I tried your vine trigger idea it works well! I put it on a track so that the vine will move vertically.

Another way you can trigger a P-Switch using a POW Block is;
Put a Goomba or Koopa on top of a P-Switch, and then put a Muncher on top of them.
The Muncher will fall after the Goomba/Koopa dies and trigger the P-Switch.
This Does work with MOST enemies.
Here's my theory behind the odd cannon behavior:
There are actually two types of cannons: attached cannons, and free cannons. Even though they're both "cannon" in the editor, they're separate entities with distinct behaviors. The type of a cannon is determined by whether it is placed next to a block _in the editor._
An attached cannon, when loaded, will check if it's properly attached to something. Doesn't necessarily have to be what it was _originally_ attached to, just _something._ If so, it will stay in place. If not, it will fall.
A free cannon, when loaded, will _always_ fall, no matter what. No attachment check is performed.
Keep this in mind as you watch the demo and I think it will make sense.

I just thought of a cool idea you could do with the oddly behaving thwomp glitch from the glitch video. You could make a tower with a monty mole, a spawn-blocked bill blaster, and the thwomp, and put a bunch of springs under the thwomp. When the game loads, the thwomp will bounce across the springs while the monty mole chases Mario, creating a jumping thwomp that chases Mario. I'm not actually sure if that would interact the way I think it would or, if it doesn't, how, but if it works, it could make for an epic level and/or boss.

the reason there's shells in the bullet bill is because theres a music block getting hit and the shell is trapped, so the only place for the shell to go is the cannon. The same way that Mario can get pushed into a cannon, but there's a one way where the shell gets pushed into the cannon. Then there's a backwards spring that pushes the shell back down.

I have made a working loop of a single launched shellmet going through the tunnel down, then using the muncher on a note block next to the bullet blaster technique, coupled with one ways, to send it back up. Finally another one-way allows it to go back down the tunnel again.
I'm still trying to form a way to send all six shells the way you did though :)
Also, whilst attempting to solve this puzzle, I came across something odd. Usually, when shellmets are crushed, they are gone for good. However, I found a setup of launching the shellmet up which gets crushed by the muncher, but DOESN'T kill the shellmet. Rather, the shellmet stops spinning! If anyone wants to see the configuration, please leave your email or something similar below so I can send it.
Edit: After further testing I found that the shellmet, while temporarily in the note-block, acts the same as when Mario hits the block it's on top of, stopping it. What's odd is that the note-block is still being hit from the TOP, not the bottom, so this shouldn't happen
Reviewed the footage and discovered that this works because note blocks don't just stop shells when hit from the bottom. In fact, if they are hit, it's path up will do this regardless of which way it was hit!
You could use the invisible cannon really well actually. Say you need to do a wall jump or something, you could have it stay there, wall jump jump off the cannball to reach a height you couldn't before? or say if it had to stay facing up make another element to jump up and use it again to reach a height you couldn't before, and if it fell either way it'd be impossible to go on.

There's a spring in the bottom on vertical tracks through the bill blaster which pushes the shell upwards.

@Ceave gaming, I think that why the shells are going through the bullet blaster bill is because of that trick where u use a note block with a muncher on top and then get smacked in a BBB. A question from me to you: Have u ever tried that idea where u use 1-up shrooms to indicate the save area, but when u ran out that thwomps whould drop down on p-switches, but that u also use auto-scrolling? It's really nice 2 try, the area will get smaller and smaller...

I think the answer to the magic trick is that you put the shells around the bullet blaster with a spring and invisible block. When it was trigger, the shell bounce through the block with the spring and continued moving just like how it happen when the shell entered the thwomp area
Do tips tricks and ideas with Don't wall jump (must be in super Mario bros U)
You can just make a triggerer out of sight wich gets loaded when you touch the wall or do a wall jump. The triggerer will then trigger a p-switch. After that the floor “magically“ disappers(it is made out of bricks which turn into coins after the p-switch is activated) or munchers that were out of sight drop on mario. Did this comment help?
honestly that would just be the same as a "Don't Jump" level because to not wall jump, you'd have to have a mechanism that triggers when Mario comes to a certain height, so for a "Don't Wall Jump" level, just put spikes as walls

oh uh, what TBNRPokemonH 21 meant by "(must be in super Mario bros U)" was that he wanted the no wall jump machine to be in that style in Super Mario Maker when creating the level/machine, not the entirety of the game itself

Correct me if I'm wrong, but have you already showed the smm trick that lets you place large enemies in the middle of a block? Like by using an enemy stack and getting rid of the bottom enemy with a podabo or fish?

That cannon loading glitch could be used as an element in a puzzle level where Mario needs to use cannonballs to get to a platform.

I dont know if there will be more Mega Maker on this channel, but if so, I got something interesting for you. I found an amazing creator that has some really cool an interesting concepts. For example: He made a series called: Platform puzzle, which features a brilliant mechanic to it (ID: 131256, 135369). You need to move the cannon, using the platforms, so you can damageboost to the finish. He doesnt have that many upvotes, but he deserves so many more. His name is UltmateDavid42

the shellmet is being pushed under a note block, and the note block is being hit by something to push the shellmet into the bullet blaster.

Personally, I convert POWS to P switches using a simple entity stack. First I put a P Switch, then on top, a koopa troopa, then on top of that, a muncher.

there is this bullet blaster glitch that puts anithing moving up it like a elevator and how to do it is that you pute a note block next to a bullet blaster and also something that doesnt move on the note block and boom if you want to test it out just get under the note block.
