  • A first look at the Carenado Cessna 337 Skymaster in Microsoft Flight Simulator - taking it for a flight around Booker airfield in Buckinghamshire, England. Along the way we take a look at the avionics, the flight modelling, and even get it to depart controlled flight! Fantastic aircraft, and great value for money.

    Excellent review. This is my go to plane. It's very reliable with enough power to get you out of trouble in the mountains. Even though I have flown the plane a lot, your review I learn a few things from your review. Thanks.

    337H Skymaster II is an excellent complement to 414AW and 310R. On the ground, I'm reducing power on the front engine and let the rear do most of the work, this reducing risk of small rock, sand and stuff hitting the rear propeller. When returning to the blocks after a flight, I usually shut down the front engine completely, as it's not longer needed :)

    Reducing engine power before retracting the landing gear is a no no in the Skymaster. The landing gear doors create tons of drag while in transit. It can result in loss of altitude near the ground. (Real world)

    Thank you, Mr. Beckett-the spin was exciting! I’ve had the 337 for a short time. It’s loud, fast and fun.

    i have about 100 hrs in the 337, and it flys just like a Skylane; heavier feeling than a 172, but solid as a rock. You CAN force it into a spin, but, like alle High Wing Cessna's, it recovers the instant you release some elevator pressure. Also, I have never seen it get totally vertical in the descent like that did. Love the Carenado's, but would LOVE to see them upgrade the rest of the airplanes to the quality of the visual environment. Still, if you fly them "normally", they are very realistic. Also, if you can open the normal front hinged door in flight more than 6 inches, you are a lot more man than I am!!!

      Hah - the phasing sound drives some people round the bend. I take no notice of it.

    Structural failure on opening the window is quite common, the Kodiak 100 documentation specifically tells you to disable structural failure if you plan on opening storm windows and this applies to using the sky dive switch on that variant which opens the door.

    • @jonbeckett
      @jonbeckett  Před 2 lety

      Yep. Makes sense. I don't like the way structural failure is implemented in the sim - there is little or no warning. At least in the Stearman you get creaking and groaning from the airframe before it falls to pieces :)

    Great review of this little plane , I've been enjoying flying it around the UK ,such good fun.what do you think is the correct view point in the cockpit, the upper or lower view point? I'm never to sure. Gary.

    Hey there. Great tutorial. I’m unable to click the AP button for autopilot but can click everything else on that section such as heading, nav, and altitude. Any suggestions?

    I have the 337 but not the 414. You say the 414 has a similar AP... does it have the same on/off, turn knob and pitch scroll wheel under the throttle quadrant as the 337?

      It's a keyboard mapping. I thought it was default - so you must have re-configured the keyboard mappings at some point ?
