- Solar power is the standard choice for off-grid power, but for us this just wasn't a viable option at this moment in time - as you'll find out in the video.
Power is a super important aspect for us, and many others, when being off-grid, and the Honda EU10i allows us to power up our entire van and all our working gadgets so we don't miss a beat.

You don't sound very intelligent.
I would be using vehicle charging system to charge solar batteries at times more amps and you could use charge controller but I would cut solar power off. I'm off grid myself and expanding have some solar. And I use my charging system to charge solar batteries it's much faster more amps. Then once parked I flip manual switch to cut off power from charging system to solar batteries. And a flip manual switch back on to charge solar batteries from the solar panels.
I have had a Honda EX650 for years. Always starts first pull even when it's not been used for weeks. Honda make brilliant generators.
Had one for 7 years. Starts on the first pull pretty much every time. Just make sure to service it regularly.
How do you service it? Do you take it somewhere? Do you need technical knowledge?
@@meredithbrouster5184 change engine oil, air filter and spark plugs
The Honda EU10i in its natural habitat...🍂🍁
Honda does make the best equipment.
I also have one from 1999, only oil changed every 100 hours of operation, air filter cleaned, spark plug cleaned with a wire brush (the same Denso still the original from the factory), made in Japan, what can I say after 24 years, it works flawlessly with the mention, regardless of the temperature, it starts from the first rope.......
Honda has always been a very reliable brand. Excellent choice, thanks for the product review :)
We’ve been having a lot of questions about it so thought it would be good to make a video all about it 😊
@@theindieprojects what about a/c, I'll try for my semi truck, what u thinking?
Get a easy start with that small generator, for your air conditioner. It’s about $300
Maybe the 2000 with the easy start
Great clear and concise review pal. You just saved me a lot of time and futile research. I was thinking of the 2k eu but like you, I don't think I'll need it. All I want is to charge ebike batteries and run a laptop. Everything else is 12v. Everyone is telling me that I don't need 240v but don't see how I can charge ebike batteries without it. Surely I'd need either a hookup, a pure sine inverter or a gennie, which would also be really handy in emergencies. Cheers.
Just came across your vid...We have the experiences with the Honda i10...my non profit ordeal...it is an absolute convenience to have this little generator in your van...we have enjoyed its smooth and silent operation...a good powersource for adventurers...
Have used the eu10 15 yrs never missed a beat.clean oil.clean fuel.last forever.T800 AUST
Thank you. Iam in germany also love this Generator
Great video, I use a generator and was told to put “ethanol shield” in with the petrol because the ethanol in petrol is hard on generator engines,
Lol imagine having ethanol in all your fuels. Also ethanol is not a problem if it is new fuel. Ethanol shield is if you are leaving the fuel for a while, which does become a problem for carburetted engines.
It runs 8hrs a day and you work 12hrs?
Love your Nike Open Air Jeruzalem shoes😂
My whole life including my music practice time is dependent on my Honda generator. I've gone through 3 so here is my hard won expensive advice. It's simply change the oil before it becomes black. PERIOD! I've used both The 1000 and 2000. The reason to use the 2000 watt is because if you never go over half power then longevity is enhanced. Change it while it's still dark brown not black.
thanks for the advice, appreciate it!
Good advice I agree when running gasoline change oil often it's only less than a quart of oil. Change oil when it gets light brown or smells of gasoline, inspect change spark gap spark plug depending on hours or each year change I do, inspect clean or replace air filter. And when running something with heat or motor watch to make sure red over load light doesn't come on. If it does reduce power or cut off immediately. Honda Tech told me they have seen a few problems with over loading but mostly sitting with fuel for a while and not starting or running rough. I put put anti seize or wheel bearing greese on spark plug threads. My America 1000 Honda only has 2 selections echo economy idle or wide open idle. I converted my Honda 1000 and Honda 2200 both inverter generators to tri-fuel and only run propane. No treating propane fuel ever.
@@tomtee4442 What kit did you use for propane? Would you still use the same kit today?
I think if u r going to get an inverter genny u might as well get 1 large enough to power an ac or 1500watt space heater. At least 1800 watt . It uses a little more gasoline/ petrol but worth having to power microwave mini stove toasters ac and heaters
Great vlog and I agree this model of generator is excellent
*_Taj Honda EU 10i agregati je super._*
I own this very generator. I have also lived off grid for 22 years now, running a few laptops is pretty easy. Try a washing machine, an air compressor or table saw... my house has 1250 watts of solar, my rv has 110 watts and the well has 110 watts. The house has a fridge/freezer and a separate chest freezer and all the other Norml stuff. The rv has a grape solar fridge, tv and a laptop along with lights, fans, water pump..etc... so, don’t give up on the solar running a few MacBooks.
Maybe they run an AC. In that case it would make sense.
I use this its the best ever super quiet
It’s been a great investment!
I was shocked how much power my mac book charger used. Its a huge 85w!
Hey Theo, Thanks for the info! As usual I love all your indie projects stuff (especially the tours!). I got 'a bit posh' with my purchase of the Honda EU30is!! I know!! ....Maybe overkill for my truck conversion but getting to the point - I have used this on eco mode all day with loads of power tools for the conversion and I always think 'better go see how much petrol I'm burnt though!'...I'm always pleasantly surprised how good these generators are. The EU30is is only 91db too but to be fair as you said, walk away twenty feet and it's soooo quiet. I bought the 'is' model so I wouldn't hassle other people if I was too close to the population but everyone who notices what I'm using are very impressed with the Honda EU models! Next 'smaller' conversion will defo have a EU10 or 20. Thanks again =]
Great informative video Theo - thanks. We are hoping that the solar we have added to Trudy will keep us charged up enough so so we can use our laptops (like you we'll be using them a lot !) but in case they don't then this option looks great - and it's small.
Nice one can't beat Honda
If you are using for just macbooks, lights and phone charging then get a solar back up on amazon. It last longer than this generator and it wont pollute the environment every time you start it. No noise also.
Great video.
nice
good review.
Maintenance is longevity
My one of these generators would not start for love nor money. I replaced the spark plug and pulled the carby off and cleaned the jets etc, still wouldn't start. I don't know what posessed me to do it but I looked into the exhaust pipe and lo and behold it was totally blocked with a wasp nest. I cleaned out the muddy nest and it fired first pull. Never had that one before.
You can definitely match laptop powerdraw with solar, especially macbooks, shouldn't use more than 100 - 150 watts max combined.
Another cracking video you two. Well put together and very informative. Looking forward to more content. All the best.
Great video.
I got 2 Honda generators.
This one
and the bigger one too.
They are truly ace.
Best wishes to all
Keep buzzzzzzing with
Honda
They are ace 😊😊😊😊😊
It’s been a game changer for us!
Darren Hunt
Could you run a small tv off the smaller generator ?
Dragon 67
hi yes no trouble at all.
I even run a very small fan heater too.
These are ace generators.
Best wishes
Happy weekend to all.
I would like to know how long you have to run it, what would it cos per month to run it to run to computers 10 hours a day lets say 30 days a month and if its a good option or a better option than solar . Its better to combine it with a lot of batteries or just run it directly ? Im guessing charging batteries is inefficient .
@@BBEros roughly 1ltr hr so 360 a month up or down with gas price ,you can get models run on petrol and lpg which is only 65p ltr take days to charge batts at 5amp hr ,ok lithium good if you have 1000 pounds for 1batt ,wait till have yacht only outboard for power, solar not much help i n scotland unless invent panels work with rainpower hooray for paraffin tilley lamps 1kw heat and light, with nice hiss, but more expensive than petrol.
Can you make an update on this video? just asking:)
Ive seen a lot of solar panel setups, and they are almost comical as far as usefulness. Not to mention the fuel economy hit from having them mounted on the roof.
I’m looking at a Battle Born lithium battery with the EU10 to charge it up when needed. I already have a EU2000, but the size of the EU10 is appealing 🤔
Great generator. When storing in the back, does it release any Petrol fumes into the van?
Please just add for the Numpties, do not use indoors or in an enclosed space .....they are out there you know :-)
Sorry to say but you are right..
Bill Weir by numpties you mean everyone over the age of 10 years, Im not asking I’m stating btw..
I await your smart comeback ( hope you don’t tho )
I also admire the fact you took the time to put the warning out on comments.
Good day to you sir.
Going on tour with the selmer
Great presentation. Thanks you!!!
Literally a good video. Literally 😀
I prefer the $99 two strokes so I do not have to keep up with hours, no oil changing. They may not last as long, but can buy 7 for the price of the Honda.
Whats two strokes
@Ron Krzaczyk thank you i didnt think anyone would reply to me
Great review Thanks
Great tip for us as we have been trying to decide what to go for. I think lll look at the 2000w option though depending on its size. Many thanks.
The Travel Troll your right the 1k is to small they would be better getting a small inverter to charge phones and laptop. and save there money to get the 2k one they wold do alot better with a 2k genny once there get started on the land that they have.
The EU20i is not capable of delivering a constant 2000watt but is actually a 1600watt generator with a 2000watt peak.
Don’t get fooled by the numbers on the sticker.
@@Mr.Riffian What is the heaviest machine that you can plug into the Honda EU10i, how much WATT, greetings from Belgium.
As someone who has tried to camp in a tent beside an obnoxious RV using a generator, thank you! Thank you SO MUCH for pointing your exhaust directly at ME not at you, to keep the sound lower!
Haha! We don't use ours around anyone 👍🏻
thank you!
now you have solor on your camper do you still jus the honda
I've just watched another video in which the presenter said that generators won't power a heater or even a regular kettle.
My caravan only has a fan heater.
If a generator that you plug into a caravan or motorhone doesn't power the plug sockets for basic things like kettles and heaters, what's the point? You may as well just charge phones and things from the vehicle while you're travelling along.
The output of the genny dictates what you can run off it.
Fan heaters can use up to 3000 watts
Kettle 2000 watt.
Buy a bigger genny or get eco kettle etc.
Great review Theo ...thinking about one for my V Dub .
I may notice one of the quietest mechanical generators around
Thank you. Very informative!
That's a great little genny. Have you thought about using LiFePO4 in your next build?
Smaller, lighter and charges more efficiently (so you get more from your solar panels). Just a thought :)
Amazing
One very important point...... Honda generators are notorious for their level sensitivity. Keep them on a level surface or they will go into self preservation mode and shut down. These are fantastic little generators and last for years.
Wow got to get me one of them.
Glad I just found your channel, really helpful advice.😊
May I ask about fuel costs please? I noticed you mentioned using a 5 litre bottle, but how often lol? I too would be doing exactly the same thing as you guys, I'd be working online, 7 days a week, from caravan I just bought and trying to get a rough estimate on fuel prices. (For both petrol and oil used)
Don't mean to sound cheeky asking about money, but no one seems to mention this? Any advice appreciated, thank you.
And good luck with your beautiful channel. 👌👍👏👏👏
Wow £750’s an excellent price, can you say where you bought it from? ThnX
thx. Usefull video!
Pls what kind if generator could be installed inside a container.cuz I got a salon and we used but a container so I don't know if it's possible to install inside the container
Really helpful info, thank you 😀😘
She's so quiet to run no headaches from the standard ones
🦋Great information video 🦋👍
don't get the one you need to pull. Get one that you can remote turn on when in your van with a wireless remote.
Doesn't have 2 sockets?
You say 8 hours run time on eco mode how many watts used ? and how many liters used ?
How long does it take to fully charge your power system? and what is the watt of your power system?
Excellent choice
This would be even better if it had LPG option. Considering Champion 92001i instead but it's a it heavier.
I'm not in the market for one guts but I still love it. Nice bit of kit. I see why your chuffed. Mark
Output ?
don't mean to be rude but your Amazon link for this genny is £1720.78 plus £25.99 for postage, great video but sorry wont be using your Amazon link thanks.
I do disagree with what he's saying about solar not being enough... 1x200w panel and a car battery should be more than enough for 2 macs and a couple lights for 12 hours each day.
Great video 😎 it really has generated a lot of interest 👍🏻🤗
thanks
Very informative guys 😁 only you could make b role of a genny look impressive 😂
Haha thanks guys!
Hi guys... Keep up the great videos. What's the fuel consumption? Litres per hour?
Why has this not been answered? I'd say this is a pretty important question.
It depends on the electric load. On mine usually 0.3 l./hour
Fuel economy there is no value in saying it will run for 8 hours. My van will run for 8 hours, my 2.5 kva Honda will, but that info means nothing. Using 1ltr each time run gen under heavy load, under light load, and then under eco mode, and return figures on how long each of those conditions lasted, you could do another video even.
It's ok you can do another video as you are the expert :)
+nowtsmart II You do realize CZcams has the dislike or "thumbs down" icon there for decoration right? It doesn't show how many dislikes there are. It's just there for placement holding.
@@theindieprojects Dude he's just giving you some constructive feedback, chill
Does it make the van smell of gasoline while inside and not using it? Also, are there any possible ignition on super hot days (probably just paranoia).
Wait, after 10-20 hours of use, you said for the first use, right? And then how often after that? Every 3,000 hours?
Jason Lurf I change the oil in mine once a year no matter how often I use it.
Great review! 😍 also...random question is English Theo's first language?
Y da para taladro también
Noob question, Are these safe to use inside of your van?
hi bro if we use this genrator daily continuesly 7 hours then tell me life of this ganretor
ideally,it would both solar power and a quite beefy generator like yours
Yes!
How do you charge the leisure batteries with the AC this genny is providing? What components do you have inside the van that re-convert the AC to DC for charging the battery?
Thanks :-)
Haven't watched vid yet but is this also solar ?
I dunno if you've already done a video but would you do one on internet data wifi while travelling
Hello :)
Is it able to start the caravan split Ac with 2500kw?
Thank you in Advance
No
Is there still no modern generator?
How old is the Honda EU 10i? Decades? A quarter century?
There is no more modern technology, is that the end of the possibilities?
I do not think so. See the Yamaha Giggle/Vox.
This is a 50cc scooter. But it has a 4-stroke engine, injection, water cooling etc. Like a modern car engine.
And of course an electric starter.
First valve timing maintenance interval after more than 17,000 miles.
Water cooling takes up space, but it improves cooling and soundproofing. And theoretically, you could mount an external cooler outside of a sound insulation box.
So please a small mobile generator like the EU 10i, but with:
* Injector
* Water cooling
* Electric start
* Optional simple operation with LPG.
@Ano Nymos Weight?
What is the height of this generator?
How many watts
change the oil every 20 hours every time and valve adjust after one year and new air filter ever year then it will last .other wize it will dye I really mean it good luck they are freaken great. Ive had 4 of them .flogged them for 17 years ya hoo
I use a Honda 2000 , actually for 10 plus years, right ! Quiet dependable, want another one for a companion . Great vid !
How much petrol does it use per hour?
What set up would you use to use this genny to charge leisure batteries? Cheers
How much is the consumption of petrol per hour for this item pls?
Cool 😎
If you have your leisure battery connected to the alternator how much cheaper is it to run the generator to charge your battery instead or run of running the engine of the vehicle?
Much cheaper... Think of the size of the cylinders in the engine, likely 2.0l engine Vs a tiny twin or single cylinder in the generator...
@@tehdreamer engine will usually roughly use 1L/hour WITHOUT load. Running a charger will increase the amount, but I can't say how much. There are people who prefer to run the cars engine than hauling a generator. This once again depends on circumstance. In a colder climate, where the heat from the engine can be utilized also, and other sources of heat don't need to be used while charging the car (and utilizing the motors heat for the cabin), using the vans engine might be a valid option. But then the alternators might get hot, and are usually only delivering a fraction of the rated power at idle. Some "professional"/commercial van versions have the option to rise idle speed for scenarios like this. But this for sure will increase fuel used/hour.
Hi, great channel!:) how big were the solar panel, if it was for 2 people in Portugal=sunny, not enought? You english is little hard to understand for me, /im not so good in it/sorry if you are spoken about. How is your reconstruction doing?
Daniela Houšková , right, I noticed he doesn't know correct pronunciation of the word Honda.
I like it. How much the generator cost..
Chris Shaw perfect 👌 thanks
220 volt is good but the same in 120 volt no much power 2000is is better options
They are fine until the inverter or regulator becomes faulty and then it won't be viable to repair. We run several of these and have had problems. We have started buying cheaper ones that do the same job at a fraction of price
When you develop the land and buildings do you think you will use solar as you’ll have more space?
Yeah defo going solar on the land eventually 👍🏻
