I think evil stems from too much self-interest. When you do something good for someone else, that's you putting their needs before yours. Perhaps too much self-interest can manifest in dark ways.

Everyone! You'll notice it after you and the people you surround yourself with are striving to be good or evil. This is in every aspect of life, more good things happen in your life. Now is it just a placebo effect no you create your own reality. Just the way it affects you psychological state of mind 🤯 But I've noticed more good physical life changes too. But I've been on both sides an you can't be on the fence about it and see changes. The years I wasn't a good man even seemed to change my appearance. I had so many mood swings some days I would just wake up having a bad day. Little bitty things could ruin my day then too. It was like I was feeding chaos and drama into my world. I lost a lot of friends when I made this change in my life. But now I know a peace in everything that I never could have imagined existed. What I think is that good and evil are subjective, but when humans think positively or they think negatively it gives off a certain energy and I think that there’s forces in this universe that feed off that energy and I guess you could call the ones that feed off the negative energy “evil”, but in the bigger picture everything has its place in the universe and it’s balanced and good and evil are the same but labeling things good and evil isn’t wrong necessarily.

Of course "Good and Evil" are real. We as human beings, for the most part, intrinsically know the difference between wrong and right. If you don't think evil is real, then you are going to have no chance at defense when real evil shows up. Free will comes at a Huge cost. If someone wants to hurt people just for the sake of hurting people, I would say that's "evil." But to truly be "free", to do evil must be an option.
You don't know that because you're basing that on the society you've been raised in and consequences of actions.
If you was born somewhere else or in a different time. Your would have a totally different view and morals.
There's no good or evil. It's a man made concept. If we could purge you'll see a whole different set of justification of what was once considered "evil"
Just look at comment sections and online chat to see how people act when they don't have to deal with consequences.
Consequences or not, bringing horrible pain to to an "innocent" or helpless living creature can never be "good." I dnt mean killing to eat or for selfish gains, but torture for pleasure. How is that not "evil"
What about unfortunate baby? If you want answer, you can look at it from 1) who are you to say that it is unfortunate or fortunate? You are seeing it from your perspective. The baby doesn't know, it has never compared it self to other. Only with perspective then come good and bad.

2) you can try to believe in karma brought over from reincarnation. That's a past life karma it has to experience.

Horrific enough that the guy kills his brother and then his brothers family but then to cover up by putting his own family in danger in order to cover his trail. Sad.

it's not that complicated or difficult. the Bible tells you exactly what it is.
We are a social species so we evolved not to be indifferent to the suffering of others. We evolved instincts that make us perceive actions that hurt others as "wrong" and actions that reflect putting others' well-being first as "right". Just as we evolved a sense of taste that finds fruit "sweet" and makes spoiled food taste "gross". When pathologically disturbed people with abnormally extreme rage, lack of empathy, vindictiveness, self-centeredness, etc, violate those norms of behavior, we call them "evil". None of this requires irrational belief in mystical "forces" called Good and Evil, it's just science.

Hint: that's not a medical diagnosis). Substitute "seriously disturbed" if your reading comprehension skills can't cope with the English language. And yes, it was an extremely aggressive tumor and "out of the blue" accurately conveys how fast and dramatic the change in his personality and behavior was.
