Hi guys, happy to see your video; Regarding the problem of the "mole" you should have left it on your table intact and said that you are not going to pay for it because you found that, or you should have requested change. When I don't like something, I say it and they understand it because I am the client. I'm sorry for your bad experiences. The same thing has happened to me. Try to go to quality places and not to "fonditas" food places where this usually happens because these are people who, although they have good intentions and do the best what they can, do not do it with dedication.

Good point, we were very new to Mexico at the time, but lesson learned. Thanks for the advice?

Holy cow, the HOA may be a good idea, but it sounds like it can also be a huge pain. Another interesting interview/conversation!

Awesome video. While I enjoy it here, some things just don't make any common sense to me, whatsoever. So much of what you shared is right on.

Cultural assumptions are way different in MX, you might expect being neighboring countries we'd be more similar, but not so at all. Not all differences are off putting, many are interesting when you get used to them.

Punching someone in Mexico and if the police gets involved, they usually take the ones involved in front of the judge. Judges usually go harder on those that start the fights similar like in the US. The main problem is that the whole thing takes a lot of your time. I've been involved in one and the guy who started got punished for the punches, for verbal insult, for disturbing , etc. What I learnt was that it's not worth fighting for a parking spot. I also learnt that there are laws in Mexico but most Mexicans behave like there are no laws until the judge come down hard.

@fourthdeconstruction that's pretty much what my neighbor told me, and with a wife and child at home it wasn't worth it, and like we mentioned he walked back to the car and sat down, so it probably would a been his word against a foreigner. I'm pretty sure i know how that may have turned out, especially if i hit him back. 😅

Oooh it was time to spill some tea. Even as a mexican I agree, there is a lot of laziness and disrespect towards costumers, lots of random backstabbing and "vividores" people you learn to trust but take advantage of you, it's especially heightened in Mexico City. The best thing to do is to do things right, even if others don't because what else can you do, it sucks that you guys as being foreigners might make you more vulnerable to these crummy attitudes because when you speak Spanish and the idioms and know how to "sweet talk people" it can get you pretty far but even then, things can turn on a dime. Call it hypocrisy and mediocrity I guess if you wanna put a label on it, there can be so much of it in this country.

Also there's a lot of power tripping. Us mexicans use crabs in a bucket as a metaphor. Gather a bunch of crabs in a bucket and if one tries to crawl out, they will pinch it back down. "El peor enemigo de un mexicano es otro mexicano"is the saying, and that apparently includes our foreigner visitors now it seems.

I had numerous encounters like this of people trying to cheat you, nasty insults when they don't realize you know Spanish 😂, etc. Still, I love MX, many honest, decent people as well. Fascinating culture. No country has all pros & no cons.

Yes, at the end of the day we love it here, but I wish I did know colloquialisms, idioms and slang. My Spanish is pretty good, but that's where it lacks. Is there an equivalent to the urban dictionary here in Mexico?

I feel like this is some new age content. It's crazy to think how life is expensive in CDMX. Thanks for sharing!

We tend to think there are some aspects that are expensive, like real estate, but we feel that many things are on par with costs in other cities. Would you agree or do you have a different take?😀

Great video! Loved the collaboration. I do have to laugh about their culture of "si si". Then they back out of it or walk away.... Been to MX a few times. What was ironically refreshing is they don't expect the govt to cover all problems. For instance, one must watch where I walk on sidewalks, there r cracks, dropoffs, etc. they don't worry about signs or warnings...a little bump with another car? No worries...a little duct tape will fix it! Off they go! Lol. They don't seem to be so "sue Happy". I find that refreshing...so diff from USA.
