The Brutally Honest Airline Etiquette Video

  • The airlines' pre-fight safety videos only cover part of our behavior on planes, and that's really only for emergencies. The important stuff that happens on every flight doesn't get covered... you know, all unspoken etiquette rules: not kicking the seat in front of you, not doing personal hygiene things, not using headphones to watch videos on the phone, not clipping your toenails, not falling asleep on the shoulders of strangers, not controlling your kids, and a load of other things that has been annoying the the hell out of us for years.
This short tongue-in-cheek video is just meant to cast some light on those things, and maybe educate a few travelers in the process.
If you're new to this channel, this video is a little departure from the otherwise more serious travel industry thought pieces I've been doing for Travel Weekly, where I discuss overtourism, sustainable tourism, destination development, branding, marketing budgets, and topics like that. Although, if you like this sort of thing, check out my previous similar video: The Pre-Flight Safety Announcement Video.
Also, I needed to add this new version of the video for censor reasons. Too many F-bombs with too short beeps.

I will NEVER understand why people jump up and fetch their stuff from the overhead lockers as soons as the landing gear touches the ground......just to stand there waiting.

Sad that things like this even need to be said. People are so crude!

"If we see you're doing your best, we are far more understanding"
I think this counts for any environment involving parents and young children. I don't have a problem with noisy kids if their carers are trying a multitude of things to appease them.

How about the uncensored version, please. I’m certainly man enough to take it. After all, I did with the first video you posted, and I thought that was very informative, witty, and yes, entertaining. I’ve actually got a friend who is a pilot, and I can picture him saying the very same thing you’ve said. Although when he’s going to church, he’s pretty buttoned up.

I'm also doing these videos for an online travel publication that has its own standards... but I'm with you in spirit.

@@rethinkingtourism4862 so, are you an actual pilot? Because the way you describe this stuff makes me think you are. When I heard your safety video, for example, I was convinced that you actually were a captain.

Appreciate the compliment, but nope, not a pilot. Maybe someday. @@ryanmiller3020

@@rethinkingtourism4862 then why do you speak as though you were the pilot, or the TSA agent, or whatever? Because in my view, that just creates confusion, although I will say that the way you do present, this stuff is creative, which is why I watch it. oh, and before I go much further, I happen to be totally blind, but don’t worry. We use words like watch and see interchangeably, even though we are listening and touching. So yes. I listen to what you say. Although a colleague did describe an actual video, I actually shared her that latest one that you sent, and she pointed out that it actually shows people doing what you are saying they shouldn’t do. I’m guessing that you gather footage like that. But yes. Your voice and inflection sound very much like my friend from church, and he actually let me fly or help him fly, a light aircraft that his flight school uses. It was pretty fun to work the controls, especially because all I had to do was do what he said, and judge what I was doing based on the feel of what the plane was doing. But if this was a commercial jet, rather than a light aircraft that his flight school was using, I think the FAA would likely ground him for life.

I also like that cork popping sound defect you inserted when you said that the front backrest is not a handle. I will admit that I too, have gently held onto them while trying to get up, but only to avoid tripping into a fellow passenger in the cabin, or worse.
