Airplanes are designed to handle turbulence. However, people are not designed to be thrown around the cabin, colliding with things such as floors and ceilings. The solution is so simple and obvious that I honestly can't feel any compassion for those injured by turbulence. What's the solution? It's a law in automobiles, at least in the US, and that is WEAR YOUR SEAT BELTS, ALWAYS. When the crew turns off the "seat belt sign," DON'T REMOVE YOUR SEAT BELT unless you need to briefly get out of your seat and go to the restroom, for example. You're flying through the sky at close to the speed of sound and can encounter turbulence without warning. Use your common sense and keep your seat belt on.

You're correct, but all too often people believe the laws of physics don't apply to themselves.
