Get those skills down and you’d be surprised what you can accomplished. A skilled chair user can be just as effective as a walker

I completely agree. Don't be overcome by your disability, overcome your disability and turn it into 'ability'. You will find, with practice and experience that you are capable of much more than you ever thought possible. I've used a wheelchair since I was big enough to fit into one, so for me it's 'normal' for want of a better word. But for a newly injured wheelchair user like yourself, it's about redefining what 'normal' is.

On a separate note, I borrowed a ‘freewheel’ for the hike, which is basically an extra big caster in front of your chair. Basically what it does is absorb the shock of going over bumps and rocks and stuff, plus keeps your casters off the ground so you don’t have to hold a wheelie the whole time. It’s definitely useful for any kind of off-roading, but they’re kind of expensive, so I’d imagine it depends on how willing you are to spend on it and the extent of your disability.

In my case, I change the front wheels for a 200x 50 millimeter roll and I can go over rocks or roots without doing a wheelie all the time, although sometimes you have to do wheelies.
But even for flat terrain they absorb better the holes in the streets, Sorry for the rustic of my English, greetings.

I needed to reach out and thank you for making this video. I met my best friend six years ago, and we have been hiking nonstop ever since. That was until a very serious accident she had over a month ago. She is still in the hospital, but she is so incredibly strong. She has improved to the point that she is transferring herself multiple times a day and she spends as much time as she can moving around in her wheelchair. We've obviously both been very uncertain about the future, having to change almost all of our plans for it. In complete honesty, its still really scary for me, but I can honestly say that watching this video is the first time I have actually felt happy since the accident. Seeing you out on the trail working hard and having a genuinely good time with it makes me feel so differently about everything. I'm watching you guys and I said "of course we can do that!"
So seriously, thank you. I really appreciate that you put this together and posted it.

I'm wanting to go hiking. I can't hold a Wheely for more than half a second.
Been looking at heavier duty tires and a freewheel at the very least. - that's a few months income though.
I looked into the company who makes my chair, they don't recommend using it for off-road stuff. So I'm waiting on their NHS representative in my area to call to see if, IF any adaptions can be made to my chair that would make it safer.
We've found atleast two paths that would be safe and easy enough. Not close by, so require some kit for napping afterward.
I live in Scotland, most of our land is not even suitable for people to walk in let alone wheel on haha. But we're gonna try.

A wheelchair user myself, i have something called a wheelchair freewheel. its an additional wheel you attach to your leg rest, in the middle. It raises the front fwheels off the ground and makes offroading easier. Would recommend that.

Thank you for the link for the trails, I live in Canada in a very small town so was not sure the All Trails would work for my town, but it did! I know we don't have a lot I can access as I do not drive so I can't get to some of them, but one of them looks accessible, there is also one we take to town that did not come up on the map but is 100% accessible.
I also use a power chair and not a manual, so wow watching you do the trail in your chair was tiring! Way to go :-)
It was funny to heck with the turtle!
As for the deer that was cool, we have deer in our backyard all the time and I never get tired of seeing them.

I went hiking in Montana a couple of weeks ago; it was okay for the first stretch, but going back up was a painful ordeal; my father had to do a lot of pushing help on those steep hills.

It's great to encourage people that life is not over, that they can do stuff, etc. but let's get real, some of us can't do this, I've got the skills, I don't have the strength, maybe I could get the strength, but I could never take the risk of injury. Frankly if I told any of my medical professionals I was going to try this they'd probably have a heart attack.

Thats what i like doing sometimes.
On my own channel I made a video where I took my dog to a local forest park. I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and I had slowly lost the ability to do this whilst walking. Im a really outdoorsy person, so once I went into a chair, that was one of the first things that i wanted to do.

Should of watched earlier, as a scout leader hikes are no problem even multi-day hikes with a tent, clothes, food etc. The scouts and other leaders like to help out, sometimes too much.

Love it! I'm hoping to get a freewheel second hand, fairly easy to get in UK & lucky enough to have funds. Might help as I'm def NOT as strong as you.
This made me get up and do my arm exercises - whilst I watched. Going to go do the rest of my physio now. Thanks for the motivation boost! I'll be laughing about that poor turtle whilst I exercise :p
