    Hey all! I hope you'll enjoy this video!
    Just a few things I'd like to tell you about it:
    - I'm having a lot of issues with my computer lately so it's extremely frustrating to edit ( headphone port decided not to work today so I "blindingly" edited the sound & apologize if it's not good; the computer was lagging a lot -even with 8 bit 4:2:0 files without any effects on the timeline- adding simple text images made the program slow down more etc) so I think I'll replace it soon.
    -this video was shot a few months ago, and the reasons why I keep on wearing a mask are the following: at the time, I had to take care of my dad who was going through a difficult time medically and since I'm not vaccinated, I wanted to keep the mask( obviously did a test before making this video) so please no negativity about that this time 🙏
    - it was a super cool experience and I tend to be quite loud when I'm excited haha! ( a bit too much in this case so I cut a few moments haha!)

    I actually like the dual remotes better than the idea of one. Adding a slider for speed would also be cool, but I love the progress made with this tech

    • @TiagoInlineSkater
      @TiagoInlineSkater  Před 2 lety +10

      Actually, you can set the speed with the dial! The more you "press it" ( more like "rotate it" ) the faster you go
      But they come with an app that enables you to change the torque of the skate as well!

      My thought is that their goals is to have 1 controller but 2 buttons (maybe index and middle finger trigger) to control each side. That way you can have 1 free hand.

      A pressure sensor under the heels could help with knowing when to power each skate, and that along with a analog thumbstick you might be able to get a similar outcome...

    • @poolkrooni
      @poolkrooni Před 2 lety +1

      The dual remotes could also potentially make it last double the duration - you could have one skate push first with the other leg cruising at the front and then switch when the battery dies? 🤔

    After over 25+ years on blades (and watching blade tech evolve) I've seen multiple powered skate projects come and go.. but none of them looked nearly as promising as this one for one reason - the assisted pump. Holding a controller for the throttle will never be the way to do this.. rollerblading is too organic to allow for that.. you don't ride on rollerblades like a you do on a board; you ARE rollerblades when you wear them.. that's why an organic assisted pump is imperative for powered blades. I've thought about this quite a lot and I know it makes a ton of sense but I also have no doubt that it's a really difficult (and incredibly expensive) problem to solve. So seriously, keep at it. It looks like it's almost there. If the assisted pump works I will 100% buy these. Sincerely, thank you for the effort. This is very exciting stuff.

    • @JokerInk-CustomBuilds
      @JokerInk-CustomBuilds Před 2 lety +1

      I have been having the same thoughts... my idea is some sort of pressure sensitive gyro system allowing the motorcontroller to "read" you legmovements and assist/augment their intentions for assisted pumps as you put it... Basicly an electronic system kind of like RC flight controller just helping the rider out allmost without notice...

    • @michalamras
      @michalamras Před 2 lety +1

      Yes! This is the first project that hook me on
      When you wear rollerblades, you are a rollerblade so remote control doesnt feel natural. But with that assisant its all make sense. Cant wait to buy one of the first available commercial models.

    • @csincl20
      @csincl20 Před 2 lety +1

      @@JokerInk-CustomBuilds I'm a designer and an occasional tinkerer but I'm no engineer so this all may be nonsense.. also, based on this video and what their current design looks like I'm sure the Atmos Gear team has already thought about all this but, I do also have some thoughts and it's very fun to discuss it sooo - If it were me, the first thing I'd do is use a sensor to graph the rpms of what would be the drive wheels during regular skating - Then I'd try to analyze that data to see if I could find a pattern. Does the wheel hit a certain RPM range at the top and bottom of the average pump? Do the RPMs accelerate or decelerate in a predictable way that can be tracked? This would obviously need to work for multiple people so you'd need to analyze different skaters to try and truly see a pattern.. Once you define a pattern that can be tracked it would theoretically be possible to design a software that monitors that input to know when to engage and stop the drive wheels. There'd definitely be tons of trial and error to adjust it correctly but it sounds logical to me. Something else I'd try to do is break into the back end of something like a hoverboard or Segway to see how the software looks on an auto balancing system.. not sure if that would be any help but something tells me Segway has dumped a ton of money into a whatever sensor they use to measure wheel speed for the auto balancer system.. maybe there's something useful there (if it's not all super proprietary and hard to access). But yes.. all in all I totally agree with you.. I imagine a very successful assisted pump powered blade to almost feel as if it wasn't even there - more like you just have much stronger legs as opposed to a motor in your skates. That would be the win for me.. like I said, seems like they're almost there. I sure hope they are because it would be so awesome.

    This is fascinating.
    I’m positive I can start out on full power by nearly sitting on my heels, rising after the torque kicks in. I was a quad skate referee for years - at two separate public rinks. I was required to adjust and repair the rental skates of patrons of the rink, which experience taught me the aesthetic science of skating back in the ‘70s. I do not have the low center of mass required for pirouettes and such, but I am an undefeated quad speed skater. It would be interesting to see what my ectomorphic phenotype would appropriate in terms of mechanical adjustments regarding this invention you’ve uploaded here.

    Love this showcase. Been following electric roller skates for a decade now and The technology for this is advancing nicely in recent years! I think the reason behind electric roller skates being behind other motorized means of transportation like bikes, scooters, skateboards, etc. is a mixture of 2 reasons. 1. They are attached to the feet meaning space, weight, and power of the motor is a huge factor. While it may fit, it may be too heavy to attach to the bottom or back of a skate, and even then, it may be impractical compared to something like a skateboard. 2. There are two skates, and coordination between the electronics and power system seems like it might be troublesome like in the video. I remember a gas powered roller skate from a while back and those were pretty cool despite being huge. Anyway great stuff, hope they continue to innovate!

    I think the reason there has not been a true electric skate yet is due to its complexity. For it to truly work as a blade, I think it would be only possible with some sort of neural link device with which you can perfectly control the wheels with your brain. It would be incredibly complex because if the wheels did something unexpected during maneuvers you would almost instantly wipe out. This is why you see all types of electric riding devices, but not blades, they are just so free its very difficult to work around.
    Devices such as this, are awesome but they are more like, a boost if you are going on flat terrain.

    I saw a comment just a little lower that said ThunderBlade failed. Sad to hear. I am I'm glad to see there is still forward progress on the AirGear inlines! I'd be more in tune with a dual control/remote until the best possible independent skate reaction becomes possible.

    install a gyroscope on each skate. track data with different people and create a tolerance for when the skate is off the ground. If you try enough spots then you can find a good and consistent way of tracking movement?

    Fun video. I wonder if the motor in the front would make more sense so it pulls you forward versus it throwing you forward upon acceleration.

    I think the motor should be in the front or both front and back. When I use to blade, it’s the front I shift my weight to. I feel back motor will either spin out or shoot you up off your feet.

    This is cool. If full powered skates is too hard then why not make skates that only give some assistance and help with braking. I have some steep hills near me that are annoying to go down, especially when there is a road at the bottom. I would mostly use them for slowing down and if I was in a very crowded environment I could just coast at walking speed.

    What do you mean first? Thunderblades was first. Many years ago. These look similar. Perhaps even reverse engineered. They should easily be able to ramp down the torque problems in software.

    Mounting the battery behind the cuff seems like a better idea than under the frame, at least for the final design. It would be a safer position, as well as a better weight distribution point.

  • @marlonmj5
    @marlonmj5 Před 2 lety

    The idea is cool, I remember you had a crowdfunding for this same idea few years ago, my issue is that, it could be a bit dangerous without maybe a system to break? Like button on the remote to slow down and stop the back wheel?

    • @Igunaq
      @Igunaq Před 2 lety

      the motor can engage to slow down the back wheel. check the video at @11:30

  • @Habeev07
    @Habeev07 Před 2 lety +1

    You need a raised heel in these so you dont have to lean forward as much under acceleration.

  • @kuba8010
    @kuba8010 Před 2 lety

    I think that it maybe I would be better to figure out a way and put the motor to the front wheel so the torque comes from the front. it would make them easier to control becasue you can control it by just lifting the tip of your foot (which also means the wheel) from the ground, also this would make it lot easier to keep the balance ,becasue the torque comes from the front and doesnt try to tip you over from your base. Also may be better for waight distribution I think because you can make all the heavy components like motor and battery sit in the midle of the skate which is a more compatct design.
