This country has too many babies.
The West African nation of Niger has the highest annual growth rate in the world, at 3.8%. The average Nigerien women has 7.2 babies.
If they continue reproducing at this speed, then their population is expected to TRIPLE by the year 2050, from 21 million to 63 million people. Right now, more than half of the society is under 15 years old.
    These statistics are alarming.
What are you thoughts about overpopulation? Did you even know that this is happening in Niger (and all over West Africa?)

In ancient times, large families means more blessings with the influence of religions, manpower in fields etc. But at this scenario it is quite an opposite and this tradition will cause a serious threat in the near future because countries especially from underdeveloped and developing have to look after and feed the general population which is a serious issue in the part of Government.
I wish people starts educating each other about population explosion so that this world will see less malnutrition, hunger, crimes etc. I really hope the higher authority brings awareness (not threatened or Govt policy) to the people.

Personally, I believe that while all children are blessings, we as adults have to be very mindful not to bring so many kids into unfortunate situations and further contributing to overpopulation. There may still be large land masses on Earth but the amount of habitable land is finite and the more people, the more scarce resources will become.
Drew mentions more children in Niger means more labor, but technological advances worldwide are already making some jobs obsolete, with humans being replaced by robots using artificial intelligence. Unless these children are going to be very highly skilled and/or in specialized industries (which will be unlikely given they struggle to even get basic education) the available work for them, which is already decreasing, will be even less by the time they come of working age.

The idea that resources and work are measurably finite is tempting to believe, but good science says otherwise. Innovation has made scarce resources more abundant and continues to do so. The modern world produces more food, housing, security, and technology than ever before and it’s dependent on a large working population. See the work cited in “Superabundnace” by Gale Pooley.
