    This Meike 85mm f/1.4 is the cheapest autofocus 85mm f/1.4 lens for Nikon Z and Sony E, but it's also double the price of their own 85 1.8 lens. So is it great value or overpriced? What do you think?

    This looks like a good deal even cheaper than older f mount lenses 85 1.4 and I don’t have to worry about getting an adapter now. The warm colors I’m not a fan of but I can just fix it in post. The f 1.4 I think will just make lower light work better regardless. I just wish they made a 24-70

    I'm mainly shooting wildlife anyway, and only really use the other lenses occasionally, mainly for cars. I think the Meike lens, being very acceptable optically and having a maximum aperture of 1.4 at a much lower price, is actually a very tempting lens.

    I would like to get the Sigma 85 1.4 art if it goes to z mount or a better ETZ adapter comes along. But now that Sigma only focuses on bringing its APS-C lens to z mount, and Viltrox pro series lenses are all APS-C, this budget-friendly Meike seems like a good option. However, I don't see any lens-correction profile for Meike in Lightroom. How do people fix vignetting and distortion for Meike lenses?

    • @TheRealRichardWong
      @TheRealRichardWong  Před 9 měsíci +2

      You could always create a lens profile yourself manually and use that for the lens. It's quite easy and there are many tutorials on the internet that shows you how to do that.

And focusing with AF-C is somewhat unreliable. However, the images are sharp shooting with AF-S. I'm little disappointed by this review and felt it is bias toward sugar coating the lens performance... I will be looking for other reviews before considering this lens
    The lens price of 470$ is really competitive and far from other contenders (at least for Nikon)... I don't consider Meike 85 1.8 a good lens, I bought one from amazon for my Nikon DSLR and ended up returning it due to its horrible flaring and got a Nikon 85mm 1.8g which was much much better. Today in Mirrorless camera era lenses became even better while Meike re-housed its old DSLR lens (85 1.8) to mirrorless (The lens performed horribly against DSLR lenses how about those excellent mirrorless lenses.... I wish the new lens was compared to Nikon 85 1.4g (yes the Nikon is 3 times as expensive but it is a 16 years old design and can be bought used around 500$ ) if this lens performance is comparable to the Nikon it is really worth consider as its new rather than used, comes with warranty, and native to Z mount

      @@TheRealRichardWong I know my first reply may seems harsh... I saw multiple review videos on this channel, the Meike 85mm 1.4 for its price is really worth considering (I almost bought a Nikon 85 1.4g 2 weeks ago and now I'm really looking to see how is the Meike is compared to the Nikon) ...
      Unfortunately the Meike 85 1.8 to me is a horrible lens ... So if a lens is better than it doesn't mean it is a good lens ... At some point I felt comparing the 2 is like sugar coating the new lens and doesn't tell if this lens is a good or just average lens

    • @TheRealRichardWong
      @TheRealRichardWong  Před 9 měsíci +1

      No worries. I like to hear feedback even if that is a criticism. That's what helps me improve.
      If i just want to sugarcoat my lens reviews by comparing with a "bad" lens, in my Meike 85mm f/1.8 Z review, I wouldn't compare it with the Nikon 85 1.8S and other 85mm lenses as all those lenses are better than the Meike in almost every area apart from the price.
      Ideally, if i have to compare this Meike 85 1.4 Z with one 85mm lens, it would be the Nikon 85 1.8S (not 1.4G) as that 85mm 1.8S is the benchmark for Nikon shooters and what a lot of Nikon shooters would want to get (85 1.2 Z is too expensive for most people). If I had that lens myself I would compare that with the Meike 85 1.4 Z. But I don't have one and the problem is that it's not always easy to borrow gear I want within a certain time frame. So I compared it with the lens from the same brand to see if the additional price was justified or not.
