  • This Was the Sound of the Future. Lots of synths - no guitars allowed.
This is my attempt of recreating some of the magic of Kraftwerk and Jean-Michel Jarre. I have always loved their records.
I saw Kraftwerk live at Brixton Academy in the early 90s. The stage was completely dark and when the lights came up, Kraftwerk were on stage all behind their keyboards. They played for an hour and hardly moved. I thought that they were robots and that at some stage the real humans would walk on the stage to reveal the trick. They didn’t! At the end the lights went down, and when the lights came back up the stage was empty. I still don’t know whether I actually saw Kraftwerk or a bunch of robots. It was great all the same.

Very nice video, I've been looking for something like this for a long time and thought I was the only one following this trend. Only your music production, dear Paul, is not at all reminiscent of Kraftwerk or Jean-Michel Jarre, but you probably know that yourself. The magic of these old master musicians has cost me 33 years of my 40 years as an artist, but I have finally succeeded in bringing their original sound into the new age. Unfortunately, the German band is no longer releasing new productions. This year is therefore a good new time for all true fans. With best regards Steve Rich

Steve, Thank you for your message. The song is inspired by Kraftwerk and JMJ, whom I both love, but it doesn’t really sound anything like them. The modern world asks you to label music and these were my reference points.
I have always been a little disappointed by Kraftwerk. They produced some brilliant innovative music, pushing the limits of the technology of the time, and after Electric Café in 1986, just seemed to give up. They are still touring (a friend of mine saw them last year at a festival) but they didn’t seem interested in continuing their musical journey and writing new songs, which I always found strange.
I have just listened to your Artificial Intelligence song and I would say that you are doing what I would have expected Kraftwerk to have done if they had carried on making new music. I have subscribed and look forward to the new album. I think my brain has been influenced by the special frequencies in the music! Much Love and respect - Paul

@@punketronic Thank you very much, dear Paul. I am very pleased that you have recognised this so clearly. It is a deep, genuine concern for all of us who love this music as much as we do to carry on where Kraftwerk left off. At the end of the year, I will be releasing my old music as a retrospective "40 Years of Steve Rich", which will also include songs that were already close to their sound back then in a modern form and are even reminiscent of Orbtal.
      Best regards Steve
