    I have tried every chin rest. Hi-Lo , side , center. And every shoulder rest. I use Piastro Luna now but I have many. I have never been comfortable. I have a big kink in my left neck....no hickey though lol.
    I've tried and tried to relax my shoulder but my violin doesn't seem to fit under my chin and it feels like it's going to fall . I am playing at a solid intermediate level.

    This is a great idea thank you. Whenever I try to play vibrato the violin shakes. How can I stop the shakes?

    I finished suzuki 2 and I had to stop for a whole year. My question is since Im without teacher right now what repertoire of studies or pieces can I follow up. I'd like to start vibrato too and I'd like to know the best tips. A practice routine for little time like an hour a day would be nice too. I really admire you. When I started before I got my first teacher I watched many of your videos. 😊

    Hi, Beth. Do you have any advice for playing with sweaty hands? When my hands are sweaty, my fingers skitter across the strings instead of sliding continuously. This makes shifting positions and making fine adjustments to intonation difficult. 😢

    Which pieces can you recommend for a solo performance when I have no piano player at hand? From a skill level I'm good with e.g. playing the George Perlman Israeli Concertino. Shifting between first and fourth position is ok, higher positions work as well but need practice. Vibrato is there but still in practice mode to become nice on all fingers. Bow technic is intermediate I would say.

    Beth, How can I keep my left wrist straight, I am still not comfortable with gripping the violin with my neck and chin. I have a Wittner chin rest over the tailpiece and a Kun shoulder rest with Everest grippers. Should the violin be at the 10:30 to 11:00 o’clock position looking down from above. Also what angle should the violin be at? Closer to flat when gripping it with your left hand (open strings) or steeply tilted like Itszak? I have been playing for 3 months retired 62 years old. Playing a Shar Music Fran’s Hoffman Amadeus student model violin with Pirastro Tonica strings. I play for 20 to 30 mins per day, I practice the 3 major scales in the back of Suzuki book one, I practice an open string exercise, I practice Schradieck exercise with a Korg tuner, in front of a big mirror. Also Hal Leonard book one.

    I finished Suzuki's 2nd book and I'd like to start learning the vibrato but I just don't know how to, I'm kind of frozen wiith fear. I'm not a fast player and it seems to me that one needs to be fast to play vibrato... so I am a bit discouraged and violin without vibrato is like a pool without water...

    do somewhere in the life of the teacher he won't need a teacher anymore to teach hin the advanced studies / repertorie because he already knows how to go until the infinite and beyond? or the teacher will need another teacher the whole life?

    Thank you for your generous offer! I have a question about the left hand pinky. Playing viola, I have a really hard time having a curved pinky on the the C-String. My pinky just isn't long enough and I can't get my elbow even more forward to allow for a curved pinky. I'm fine on the other strings. So far, I simply used another position if a vibrato on the fifth of the C string was needed. What would you suggest?

    I have been playing B notes on the E string out of tune. I should be playing 987.77 Hz, but, instead, I am playing 979.99 Hz. The latter is not in tune, but it does resonate well on the G string, and the way I find a note is by listening to the other strings resonate. Any advice on how to hit B properly?

    Hi. I am an adult learner .. started after age 38...managed to scrape thru grade 6 Trinity, but, hv not touched the violin for the last three years! I feel I may not be able to pick it up again, or may struggle more in reading the notes, or getting back. I miss playing it. Is there any advice?

    I am very appreciative of your videos.
    I come from a place of wanting to learn old-time fiddle. I came across your videos picking up some technical lessons ( which are amazing, thankyou).
    I have noticed however, that the artists I follow hold the fiddle and bow in all kinds of ways ( particularly the left hand on the neck is almost supporting the instrument).
    My questions: What are limitations of playing this way on my technique?
    And are there any benefits to this style of fiddle?

    • @violinlab
      @violinlab  Před 10 měsíci

      Hi! Great question, just to clarify, are you asking if having a "fiddle" style left hand poses limitations to playing classical music, or just limitations in general?

    • @ryanj1262
      @ryanj1262 Před 10 měsíci

      Hello!
      Sorry, for the late reply.
      To clarify I meant limitations in general. Both for bow and left hand.
      However, If you have some thoughts about how it limits classical, I'd love to hear them too.

    I’m new. I’m trying to work on producing a decent tone. I do nicely on the E string, A and D are kind of Ok. The G string sounds like I am strangling a wombat. Is there something different about the stroke when playing the lower strings?

    hi! question 1: about the video #7 Dolcíssimo. How can we control the bow with a russian bow hold? the pink doens't support nothing :(
    question 2: still about russian bow hold, all the things a franco-belgian hold do with the flexible wrist can be done with russian bow hold still with flexible wrist or we just don't use it, instead using only the forearm?
    question 3: i have a limitation on my left arm, my tendons are malformed. i can't turn it enough for positions higher than 3rd, like projetc the elbow forward and twist my left hand until 4th finger can reach the G string. the worst case is if i try to reach the G string on 5th position my arm hurt a lot. and double stops in 4ths using 4th finger and 8ths on 1st position are extremely painful no matter how long i try (i play violin 6 years and it's always this pain. i have a very good posture). am i faded to never evolve in other positions or double stops on the violin? the further the hand go, the further the arm must twist, and the pain is more because of this! i can do it if i turn the violin itself almost entirely to the side, not in the normal position (so the bow when passing on the g string is almost pointing up and my left hand can reach the g string without hurting that much.. bus still hurting a little).
    thanks in advance!

    how should i practice effectively. i feel like, it is impossible for me to reach level perfect of a song, rather i practice till i get it to a half way level and then all of a sudden it just all down to where its worse. and just practice more, helps nothing, all i can do is wait for the next day and then i play it just as good as i did the last day but nothing better.

    How can I learn to pitch. I just don’t know how an A sounds or a D until my teacher pitches my violin. And therefore I actually don’t know if my fingers are positioned right. I just cant hear. I just don’t know what is right or wrong. What is to high or to low. To pitch when I am practice I always have to use an app.
