The car shown is a Skoda Fabia MK1 which failed to illuminate both rear brake lights when the pedal was depressed.
When the driving lights were turned on there was interference between the circuits and when the brake pedal was depressed.
The driving lights became brighter. The dashboard showed up the EML light which went out after the repair was made.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
Please make sure you purchase a good high quality switch which come ready to fit in the OPEN position. It is important that the switch is in the OPEN position when fitting and not closed as this will destroy the switch when fitting.

Mega useful, especially the pulling out of the plunger bit! I nearly smashed my car up in anger when I put the switch back in and it didn't reach the pedal!!! Nice 1 pal.

Do you need to remove any fuses or disconnect battery to do this? Buying a Fabia with this issue and just wanted some info guys thanks. Can I just remove the side plastic and bottom plastic then take the switch out ?
No, just ignition off, key out, fuse cover, bottom dash, fix :-)
On Skoda Fabia (Mk2 pre-FL) replacement took 3 min without a single tool! Just flexed and removed the foam panel and unscrewed the part. Cost of part (Genuine 6Q0945511) was 15 euro (at local parts dealer in Thessaloniki, Greece).

Just bought one from vw and somehow when i twisted it to secure in it snapped the fixing tab part off đ
OH no, bad luck, these need to be fitted firmly, but gently if that makes sense or 'steady as she goes' so to speak. Maybe get the guy in the workshop to fit it ;-)
Aren't we supposed to depress brake pedal, put device in, release pedal slowly, then turn to lock in device?
Do it which ever way you want, but there is no need to press the pedal (with what, your hand? if your foot then how do you bend down to put the switch in place without being a contortionist), just put it in and the pin will shorten to the pedal as long as you have pulled it out first, much easier IMHO :-)
Getting a loud click majority of the time immediately after i press the brake pedal on my 2014 polo, reckon this could be the issue?
Depends where the sound it coming from. It would be quite noticeable if it is the pedal and a lot different if coming from outside being the brakes themselves . If it is definitely from inside then yes it could be, but you could probably tel the difference if it was the switch or the peda.l Both could be faulty. . May you could feel down at the switch whilst pressing the pedal as you would feel it if it was the switch.
@@HatBoyHarvey to be honest it sounds like itâs coming from around the brake servo / master cylinder. really sending me crazy haha
Most likely Sounds like your front pads need replacing as sound from the brake calipers can travel up through to the pedal, but could be the master cylinder, either way I would take the front wheel off inspect the brakes, if worn replace pads/discs and then see, if not worn strip down and rebuild the brakes so you know they work correctly. This will eliminate brake wheel issues so if you then still have a clicking noise you then suspect the master cylinder. Hope you understand this, but whatever do not leave it as the braking system is obviously vitally important and needs checking out :-)
@@HatBoyHarvey rebuilt the brakes fully, proper ceramic break grease and rubber grease in the slide pins, working sound as a pound now, just a slight whistling when turning right. cheers buddy đ
@@callumwilson674 monitor this noise and if as you say makes a noise turning right the the left hand wheel bearing could be on its way out. I have a video on this if you fancy doing it yourself, but the job isn't for the novice really. Happy days :-)
Jst replaced mine but is not working what could be the problem
Get someone to activate it whilst fiddling with the rear clusters out, wires, connections. Check you attached it properly then maybe start systematically tracing faults.
Have it Jetta. Want to change brake light switch. Open panel and I Do not see the switch. I see a hole. But no switch. Have you seen such a mess?

Yes, the switch can be on the master cylinder on some models

If you put it like this way you destroy the switch
This is the correct way to put the switch in and worked for me. Can you explain just what you have done to destroy the switch?
I put it like you two time, both was destroyed. After that i discover the right way. It`s hard for me to explain, coz english is not my mother tongue.
The only thing I can think of is that If your switch was in the closed position before fitment it would break under force as the switch must be in the open position before fitment. Also some cheaper copies of this switch are of inferior materials and are known to cause issues. In the description I state that the vehicle shown is a Skoda Fabia MK1 and the switch is similar to other VW/Audi group vehicles. What vehicle model/year have you?
Passat 2004, the switch is the same like yours. You cannot fit them in closed position, only in open position.
Thank you for bringing this important point up. New switches come in the open position, so should fit right out of the box. I guess it may be possible that some may not be set right in manufacture. This should be included with the switch. I will mention this is the description also, Thank you again.
