This is the dichotomy of being in the average range. Most people fall into that category. We can clean up nice or we can look average, depending on effort. In a sense it’s a blessing because we actually have to learn the skills associated with whatever we do. We also have to be decent people. But we can choose to put in the effort with our looks and be noticed. Then we have the advantage over people who just wake up looking like a Disney princess because we have the skill. However, we shouldn’t have to look a certain way. We should be allowed to put in no effort and look how we do when we wake up, without putting in any additional effort. I personally enjoy playing with hair and makeup. It’s a creative thing I can do every day. But everyone has days they don’t want to do anything beyond shower, brush your teeth, slap on some clothes, and leave. This is why I don’t let myself get distracted by how someone else looks. I make a point to go by what people actually bring to the table, with friends, coworkers, and everything else. All we can really do to change things is focus on what actually matters and not get blinded by pretty, shiny things.
