You should have created carbs in the bottom of the coke bottles. Also, doing a fast poor with the coke caused it to fizz which means you lost a lot of the co2. This could have been way better but still cool.

Diet soda works better, can be fairly inconsistent but diet Sprite and Diet Coke tend to work the best. The lack of sugar decreases the surface tension, so the carbon dioxide bonding with the soda reaction is greater.
TLDR: mentos gives the soda an additional surface to release the fizz, so it loses fizz faster. Diet soda works better because sugar gets in the way of the reaction.
The reactions using Sprite and Dr. Pepper were more awesome. Why chose Coke for the finale?

When people hear the word mentos they don’t think mints but they think soda explosions
1. unfair tests - if you are going to measure success of a reaction you need to make sure there are no other vairables, ie shaking the bottle before you open it, knocking the bottle over, not putting the same amount of mentos in at the same timing as the others (you used a stick of mentos then used the pinch and squeeze which missed some in one bottle).
2. If you put the mentos INTO the massive bottle of cola ALL the mento's surface area is effective rather than the ones that were at the top. AKA don't flip the cola into mentos, drop the mentos into the cola.
Imagine the amount of pain, suffering, blood, sweat and tears that would've been avoided with a $1 funnel

Now try again with "Mint Mentos" & "Diet Coke" so the reaction can happened....
Its a physical reaction that supposed to happened there the complex structure of the "Mint Mentos" & the low surface tension of a "Diet Coke" make it possible for extraordinary amount of bubbles to form almost instantly.
This reaction does not work with regular cola with sugar that got normal surface tension, yes some bubbles will form regardless like you see in the video. But not even close to what would happened if done correctly.
