A very simple setup for this one but I think it has turned out really effective. It should be a very good looking tank in one months time that's for sure when I do an update. The only things i would put in this tank is shrimp, a betta and fry...seeing as my betta has a home, I went with shrimp and fry instead :)

Four years later and I find myself rewatching these videos. I'm setting up another nano tank for shrimp and I love that these are available for reference, ideas, tips etc. Your past work is definitely still relevant and I appreciate that. Thank you MD.
Just ordered two 3 gallon tanks to do my first attempt at aquascaping. Very excited to dive into it
One thing that I think would look good:
Just hardscape and a single species of carpeting plant to give the Illusion of a grassy field. When done right, it looks amazing
It would look good....but im sure i would get bored of it haha
I try watching so many other aqua scape tutorials and from the tank setup to just the person talking they all really suck. Your quality is top notch and your not annoying when you speak thank you for being so awesome 👏
Takes confidence to tear down a beautiful tank and create another. Kudos.
So beautiful set up...I love shrimps...this tank go so beautiful in future...you r genius
Love your channel! It's inspired me to try it with just a light and maybe powerhead 😏. And you make some awesome scapes! Can't wait to see more vids! 👍 Keep up the great content!
Its looking like an iwagumi .great look. Also the three stone is looking awesome.
I like what you did there! When you were going through the box of hardscape with your boys I was hoping for the millennium rock! Honestly I wouldn't worry about the scratches as your plants will cover them in time I'm sure. Again Nice work! Great Video!
thank you :)
I like jungle style tanks, but I also like the simple, clean rock set up. Both are beautiful tanks.
👍💕👍
Im going to repair the left tank (3 stones pebble)
Keep up the good work, love your ideas, a big thanks from Europe, Bulgaria
thanks Miro
Been watching your videos for a long time. Respect
Looking forward to the Goldfish tank. When i saw the notice I was hoping it was it.
Love your work The Pancho tank is my favorite.I want emulate that one. Thanks
thanks :) coming soon...

They looked amazing how they were and even after the re-scaping. Win win either way :P
thank you :)
I think all the tanks look beautiful 👍
Thank you :)
Like it but I like all the tanks for different reasons but especially Pancho's and the community fish tank? Not sure where that particular one sits. Anyway I could sit for ages staring blankley into them both😁 Thank MD.🙂👍
Love all your tanks ❤️
thank you :)
Love all your tanks they are so inspirational. I am a beginner and have just got my first tank so looking to make mine more lush looking as some of the plants I added have just melted away.
keep trying, I get that with some plants, learn whats good for you and stick with it
Looks very good👌👌
Just got a new fish tank I hope it goes well with your ideas you’ve done!
good luck :)
Beautiful!
thanks :)
Well done 💕
thank you :)
I would love to do an entire rack on Nanos. Just love having the option of multiple small scapes.
Go for it. Never a dull day :)
Love the simple look with the stones. I'm going to try planting a carpet for the first time soon and love the Monte Carlo, so am going to give it a go. Thank you for another easy to watch video
It's all about the monte carlo :)
What make is the external hang on filter please?
Link in description :)
Nice three Gallons Nano tank
Great work again mate. Your videos are on fire at the moment keep them coming. I am after some shrimp for my scape if you want to lessen your numbers 🤣.
haha. To be honest, that's not that many shrimp compared to some. You can never have enough lol
True. Keep up the good work mate👍
You should do a Chiclid scape! With Anubias or something like that.
Oh! Pancho 0:47😵
Your sons are your little copy🥰
haha. Thanks
oh plz give the settled natural densely grown tank some more weeks - its such a beauty! In my opinion these are your most precious tanks! Not the steril scaped ones you'll find all over the net! Or just take 5 Minutes of HQ video footage of it for relaxing purposes to watch the settle movments of the fish in it ;)!
I might try and tidy it up as I love it
@@MDFishTanks your tanks, your rules ;) - just know in my opinion you've created an amazing little word within 3 months there - worth watching a while! Just started my first tank ever 5 weeks ago, but I will add another small one in the near future, which will definitly be inspired a lot by your low tech, dense and natural style ones! :)
@@se5908 You've inspired me to revamp it :)
Simple...but looks better than complicated one's.
thanks
Amazing
thanks
Looking good Marc!! Really nice Iwagumi 👍
Cheers dave. Not overly thought about but i think thats something people can enjoy from my style :)
Awesome tank! I did a 3 gallon aqua scape last week! And it’s currently cycling! And durning that, I want to plan on what fish to Get! I think about getting cherry shrimp, or fancy shrimp, but I want a small fish for the middle/top also! And suggestions? Like Tetras, or Guppies? Any other idea?
Love the tank! And also you opened the capsules, good to see you liked the idea. :)
About the shed, don't you feel like you can't watch your tanks enough? Or do you just go in sometimes and look at the tanks? I for example, have one on my desk, one besides the couch in the living room and one on the dinner table, that way I'm always able to view one.. I love to watch them. :)
Curious how this is for you, since it's in a different "building", or so to speak.
Well I'm always in there doing something. I cannot remember the last time I sat on the couch or at the dinner table unless editing or eating ahha. I'm in there more often than anywhere else to be honest. I'm working my ass off for this channel remember (which is easy because I love it :D
@@MDFishTanks Thanks for explaining, I was expecting something like this. :) Keep doing what you are doing, past year or so I've watched every episode (at least once..) with joy!
Wonderful simplistic setup MD :) How many in-vitros did u use in the end?
3x 1-2 Grow monte carlo, 1x rotala h'ra and one pot of hairgrass :)
Do you not get oily film at the top? Since you don’t have much water current to break the water surface
Try a white background or frosted, would be nice the contrast un that tank
I tried that in my last tank....I all about the black :D
Looks good Mate 👏👏👍
thank you :) should look great in a month
@@MDFishTanks yes Mate want to get some more carpet plants for my tank and re scape. What do you recommend with no co2 and a beginner. Thanks Mark 👍
@@Mark-ir9gl harigrass and monte carlo. Just make sure you use tropica aqua soil :)
@@MDFishTanks thanks Mate have already got tropica soil and plants they are the best in my opinion. I have 2 zebra snails and on the monte carlo it says no snails why is this. Thanks Mark 👍
@@Mark-ir9gl I'm not sure??? I've got snails in all my tanks. I love them!
I didn’t catch what light your using for Montie Carlo and Hair Grass. Heater or co2?
Great work, you make it look so easy! Just wondering, for small nano Betta tanks (under 4 gallon), do you prefer the small internal filters or the hob types like the one in this video? What are the pros and cons of each?
Stephen Woods the HOB filters might be better for smaller than 4 gallon tanks as they don’t take up as much space in the actual tank. And if it is that small of a tank, it’s better for the betta to have as much room as possible :)
I love nanoscapes with jus a simple zen look, like 3 rocks together, basically this tank, and some carpet plants and a few bigger plants at the back, but I don't wan it to grow a lot, can anyone recommend me plants, for 2-3 gallon
Bacopa carolinia grows very slow but is a background stem plant! Most carpets are slow if you don’t dry start. If you want a real slow grower, go for S. repens, but my personal fave is Monte Carlo! Hope this helps :)
Yes
:D
Hi , what kind of CO2 & light equipment you used in your tank ?
I think you have magic water.....🤗
Hello, awesome video! May I ask why you dont use filter which is packed to that aquarium set and dont use HOB filter instead?
Just because I didnt want an internal filter to take up space.
Can I have the white LED spec and model? Is it suitable for plant growth or for plants like low tech java fern, moss, and duckweed or water lettuce and red roots. Thanks
Is that the X5 10W? With the 4 blue LED or all white? I own the first and I paint sprayed the cover where blue LED's are because it looked too sterile imho. As a grow light for my 25L tank it works great. What do you think?
It can look a bit sterile but once the plants grow more, I think it will work well. We will see.
What kind of light do you use for the tank in the video?
This fresh scape is beautiful. I do understand the lure of newness, but mature, balanced, grown-in tanks are a treasure. I wonder if you have considered rehoming your setups rather than tearing them down. Swapping in a new glass aquarium would have all the benefits you seem to desire excepting the re-use of your soil... but as always; I appreciate the manner in which you learn through experimentation and invite us along to grow with you. Thank you for sharing :)
Some scapes you just have to keep...like the one next to it. Currently revamping it now. And my first nano tank that i still have. I feel this one didnt evolve well. Tanks are like many other things in life, some you get emotionally attached to and some you don't.
Aahhh, that makes sense. Thank you for explaining; I now understand a little more about the motivation behind your re-scape.
Another great scape. Love the frequency of your videos Mark. How do u get away with no CO2 with the hair grass and Monte Carlo??
good substrate. That's all you need. Tropica have got you covered :D
MD Fish Tanks. yeah got all that and power sand but I still need CO2. Guess your water parameter is better. 👍🏻 cheers and keep scaping
@@paulhumphreys5764 dont get me wrong. It grows very very slow but nice and stong.
Sorry, I know this is late but what kind of filter is that?
With all these non filter aquariums I wonder: how do you manage the pH, GH and KH? How come you don't run into old tank syndrome with those?
Edit: and do I see merch? Looks lovely! Gotta check the pricing and might order soon!
Yeah merch is in :) all profits are going into the new studio build so spend away :) :) a good water change once every 2 months seems to stop me running into old tank syndrome.
What was the dimension of the tank you rescaped?
nice
thanks
Do you have any videos on your shed setup. Mine is up and electric in. Now insulating etc.
Yes, you will find it in my video list
MD-When you edit can you print out the names of each plant as it is hard for me to see the name on the containers. Thank-you & I Love your channel!
great nano aquascape! a quick question for you, how do you grow carpet plant seeds? i am planning to buy some but i am not very sure on how to plant it
I've never done that. Seems silly when you can buy them grown already for relatively cheap?
MD Fish Tanks Ah thank you I'll buy them grown already. Just got a three gallon tank and I'll think it'll look good with your set - up! Thanks for replying.
I've just started my first planted tank and I'm about to get some shrimp eventually.... Aren't you ever worried that, when re-scaping - that you accidentally kill some of the shrimp when clearing the tank out like with them sticking to the plants of getting stuck in the gravel?
Jon Read its definitely something to worry about, but they’re pretty hardy. Just take your time and know that you probably won’t be able to get them all
What kind of rock did you use
What....???? No duck weed....???? It is an icon in your scapes. Beautiful nonetheless
I want to see how the lighting goes...it might need it to be honest.
So can anyone explain the difference between this and the walstad method? why is he able to add live stock almost immediately because typically wouldnt his gravel mix spike the ammonia levels
Zach Naylor I believe this is close to, if not very similar to the Walstad method. And I think he is able to add fish so quickly because he is probably using a bacterial Kickstarter like Turbostart. With those kinds of products, you can theoretically add fish immediately.
know where to obtain rice fish in the US? Is there a website?
Where do you buy those nano aquariums from
check the description :)
Would this size tank be ok for a betta
I would say so...others say 5 gallon minimum.
How much pots of Monte Carlo have you used here? And which shrimps have you kept?
I used 3 as wanted it full right away but to be honest, 1 would be enough if you are patient.
@@MDFishTanks and which shrimps have you added
@@sarthakpyne2466 Ive added amano, cherry and wild type.
Do u use ro or tap water
just tap
Which light do u use
it's from senzeal.com
Could you do this without a filter
Where can I buy the plants as same as yours?
It depends where you are from but have a search on the net for a local Tropica dealer.
Do you use CO2 for monte carlo plant?
no. Not required in my opinion with a good substrate/soil
Thank you. Well some would suggest it, else the plant would melt
How do you make the carpet without Co2? Won't the plants die?
no, monte carlo does well without co2 (grows a lot slower but will still grow)
@@MDFishTanks : what is the secret of growing monte carlo without co2 please?
good samaritan u don’t need co2 u just need 8 hours of medium light even it won’t grow fast but it’ll grow😅
Can you grow plants with common dirt
yes, but it's not the best way in my opinion.
@@MDFishTanks can you give us any pointers ☺
So are you sponsored by tropica? Your patreon page says you buy everything and have no sponsors? Just curious.
Oh yeah..I should update that. Tropica and Aquarium gardens have only recently sponsored me so thanks very much for pointing that out :)
sounds Japanese from your bg music =)
How do you heat a tank like this?
i dont. The studio is heated
@@MDFishTanks many thanks, all the tanks look fantastic and the way you explain what your doing is great, look forward to seeing more 👍🏻
Amano Shrimps?... was that a Bamboo with the white stripe?
some amano..and not sure on bamboo?? you would have to tell me...
@@MDFishTanks just watched again and paused it lol, the striped was the berried shrimp, - still looks possibly like a Bamboo shrimp though :)
Cover the intake sir so that shrimplets won't be sucked in.
will do.
first
not quite ;)
Why not prune it back and just change something about it. Let it be the evolving tank.
....you read my mind. Coming soon
@@MDFishTanks also on Instagram im hungry_veg1595. I sent you a few messages and you should go look at them! Im sure we will have a good conversation about all this fish stuff!
