Use the whole thing, such as '-7' for example. Treat that as the complete
whole thing, and just move the whole thing where you need it to go.
Treat the whole '-7' or whatever you are working with, that has a -
sign in it. Treat it like a whole number and just move the whole
chunk around, to where you need it to sit beside another number.
Say you have 5 + x - 3. Treat that as if you made the '5' look like this '+5'. Any
numbers you see, they are actually the same as if you use a - negative sign
in front of them. But '+5' is always just 5, with the invisible + sign is all.
However, a minus sign always has to be shown, when doing negative
numbers. The minus sign cannot be invisible, or we wouldn't be able to
tell which is which.. Just as you treat a positive 5 as the whole thing, including
the invisible plus sign, just imagine that with the negative sign, but you have
to show the sign in front of the number to show that it's not a positive number.
The negative sign always has to be VISIBLE to the eye. Where as a positive
number is automatically understood as being a positive number, without
showing the plus sign at all. So when you see any negative sign in front of any
number or letter, you treat it like you would a positive number, but you have
to include the sign visibly is all you need to know. Treat the whole number '-7'
as the whole chunk, but the sign is visible. That's the only, only difference.
I hope I've helped you out a bit. Mr J should have replied to you, but I had
      to instead. lol
