Have a great rest of your day and thanks again for watching!
✅ Thanks so much for watching! I appreciate you ✌️✌️✌️
✅ Just a quick thought on #3, or any exponent for that matter... You can pair off (-3)’s. This is another way to get to the solution. Do (-3) times (-3) = 9 and then the other (-3) times (-3) = 9 as well. You can then do 9 times 9 which equals 81. In other words, you do not have to multiply one (-3) by (-3) at a time. You can pair numbers off as you evaluate an exponent and then multiply the products.
✅ Remember, when working with negative bases with parentheses, an EVEN exponent will result in a positive solution. An ODD exponent will result in a negative solution. Something to keep in mind.
Mr J whats your face looks like?
Mr. J can you do slopes and dilation?

Thank u soo much
Thank you so much man, honestly, I thought I knew exponents, but my teacher who doesn't know how to teach in our style school system, explained nothing of this. But you? You literally nailed all questions I had in one video. Now that I've watched this, I think I've got it. It's starting to make sense and I'm so glad to have people like you who can explain so *greatly* for people like me
do you go to a montosorri?
*TELL ME WHY THIS AMAZING MAN AND VIDEOS IS WHY I SURVIVED THE 5TH GRADE AS ONE OF THE BEST STUDENTS*

Thank you very much.

i’m trying to get into accelerated math today, this was very helpful!
MR.J YOU LITERALLY SAVE MY LIFE TY

same here as well
Basically, if the base is negative and the exponent is even, you'll get a positive answer. If the exponent is odd, you'll get a negative answer? Am I right?
Yep! You are right!👍🏽 ✅
Just remember that this only works if we have those brackets around the number.
Thanks! I’m watching this 1 Hour before my ISEE’s ❤
Thank you, Mr J! I am a 34 year old going back to college and this is helping me so much in my Math 970 class right now, to refresh all of these things I have forgotten😊
Can we go to college as 34 year old?!
Yeah… there isn’t a age limit to go to college…..10 year olds have been accepted into college….
no hate but isnt this for grade 8?
@@movelookHill lots of adults dont need to use this kinda math nowadays , since we have calculators; people usually forget info they dont practice and use (kinda hard to forget exponents though, im not sure how this person could forget, unless they didnt do well in middle school and high school, OR they have a learning disability/ and or memory problems)
@@_Choco_A lot of life happens between 8th grade and 34 years of age. It is very easy to forget things learned in childhood when you have adult challenges to deal with everyday
explained all the things in under 2 hrs really helpful
The way you speak is so important. It is easy to follow and everything has the right timing ! Great job :) Keep on making videos

how did you get 4 for number 2

What about negative base number with decimal exponents?
Something like -2^1.5
How will it work? Is it going to be a positive or negative answer?
Imaginary answer. You write -2 as 2 × i^2 but after that I'm also lost.
Actually now that I look at it its stupid easy
(-2)^1.5 = (2*i^2)^1.5 = 2^1.5 * i^(2*1.5) = 2 ^ (3/2) * i^3 = square_root(2^3) * i^2 * i = -2 *square_root(2) * i
Or you could go like this
(-2)^1.5= 2^1.5 * (-1)^1.5 = 2*square_root(2) * (-1)*square_root(-1) =2*square_root(2) * (-1)*i = -2i*square_root(2)
I don't know how i didn't see this in the beginning.

What if it is -(-5)^2?
Thank you so much I really need because I am bad at math 😅

7th grade
thank yuu
OMG TY
Your
Are the best
Ues this helped👍
A number with parenthesis and without parenthesis DIFFERENCE:
Example, we assign x as 5:
(-5)² = (-5)•(-5) = 25
Raising a negative base that is inside the parenthesis causing to have the result positive because -(-x) equals x.
-5² = -25
Raising a negative base without the parenthesis only affects the number but not the integer so it remains the same integer.
I hope this helps!
Can you do a video on simplifying expressions?
when the powers change does it matter
I love this guy he teaches you like my dad
The only reason I don’t have to study for math tests is because of all his videos
Can you pls tell me which grade you learn this in

Can u do sample size
🤔But if I assume that the "-" sign is always in front of the first digit.
-5² = -5 × 5 = -25
Does this work in every case?
Thanks for your response!
Can u mzke a video about negative and positive num bres im in college my exams are coming soon😅

Thank you for helping me, I got a hundred on my test! ♥♥♥💝💝👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Liar
So if we have a power which is odd the answer will be negative either with parentheses or without parentheses
Tysm im super dumb cause im in BOTTOM set for math😭😭 gotta go up
I can't help but feel like these should be the other way around.
It makes much more sense to say that -5^2 could be interpreted as -5*-5 by default, and that if you wanted the other way, THEN you'd specify the difference with -(5^2) or -1(5^2).
I don't know if ANYBODY would intuitively look at -5^2 and say "-25".
It doesn't even have anything to do with PEMDAS. The only multiplication happening is the multiplication of the -5 with itself.
Love the thought behind this! Thank you for sharing. I actually agree, intuitively, you would think that -5^2 would mean -5 * -5.
@@MathwithMrJ - take the function y = -x² and I fully expect that to be a parabola pointing down, under the axis, and not above it. So, it seems fully intuitive to me.
