    Transitions, transitions, transitions!!! One of my biggest challenges!!!

      It’s a biggie! Especially the forced upon us transitions. 👍

    Transitions... are not that difficult for me at the end of the work day. Transitions are difficult for me during the work day.
    If I get hyper-focused on a project it’s sometimes hard to switch from that project to another project.

      Totally! We just talked about that in our coaching call on Sunday. When we're Time Blocking, we build in a moment at the end of our Mental Sprint time to pause and refocus before shifting to a new task. A little transition helper. 😊

      I sometimes meditate between focus shifts and I find that really helps my brain to let go of the hyper focus. Then, even sometimes before, I will note all the hyper focused thoughts down on paper and that really helps clear me up for the next thing.

    Transitions. I've been trying to pinpoint what it is that makes it so hard to start another task, it's very interesting to think about planning through how to end the current task to get closure! I've always had a big problem of working on a task until it's done, and it really gets me in trouble with all nighters or not finishing other things that are more important. I need to work on finding a stopping point.👍

      @adhd-for-life  Před 6 měsíci +1

      @LittleDebbie11 it sounds like the all nighters are from timeblindness. It's great when you have the time to focus and get into the task but sucks when you have to remember to leave to go eat! There are things you can do... set a timer. Even better would be the stove timer because you shouldn't be ignoring that sound! :)

    Omg.. this. I always wondered why when I’m done with one part of my day (ex work) and try to do the next part I have a moment of blank “uhhh 😳.. what now?” It feels like I was on a crazy rollercoaster and I’m back on solid ground and have to recalibrate my life 😂 I instinctively knew to build in a period of transition, but it feels very validating to know it’s a thing and I’m not alone

      You are not alone! Transitions from work affect us, especially as we're likely burned out from the day.

    Transitions are rough and draining. It's a very good idea to make a ritual for ending a task. Writing down where you are with your work, mentally. Jotting down the thoughts and concerns not only to remind you the next time you begin work, but also to simply let them go. Now they are written, I no longer need to remember them. I can rely that those thoughts and concerns, and unfinished tasks, will still be there, to remind me.
    This reminds me of something you included in another one of your videos about habits. You were talking about building skills and over time needing to rely less on medication. "Not all Habits are equal. Some feel constraining. Others help us not forget."

    • @adhd-for-life
      @adhd-for-life  Před 2 lety

      Smart idea with jotting down where you leave the task. Not everyone has medication but for those who do, it’s good to mix medication plus skills to better cope with ADHD.

    transitions. i am always off work a couple hours late. i work live in at an assisted living and even with timers and planning my days, somehow cram a lot of tasks in the last couple hours of the shift. Then the next person comes and I end up updating and chatting with them too long while finishing up the closing tasks which makes me take even longer. Then I pick up my kids and have to be engaged right away. i was wondering why this has been so hard and just randomly search ADHD and transitions.
    Thank you for the video!

      It sounds like you have many things going on and having to jump between people and tasks. That can be stressful. I hope you find parts of the video helpful.

    100% everyday and it causes me to stay at work longer so I spend less time at home dealing with the change and stressors that come with it….i feel like such a bad mom…the weekend is a million times worse….everything changes I no longer wake up and go to work the routine is different…it wasn’t always like this….but now the feelings of irritably and frustration are more present and again I feel like a bad mother…i don’t even want to cook or clean (which use to make me feel better cleaning like taking control of my new environment)…I’ve looked for answers about these feelings and haven’t come across them until now….i didn’t even know if my feelings were a result of my ADHD….so glad to come across your video and channel.

      @user-yj1qe6vd2h ADHD affects women as they go through various stages of life. We have similar conversations with women on this topic and it's usually a surprise for them too. You may gain more insights from this seminar by Dr. Claire on ADHD in Women: czcams.com/video/C6T0P0TeP9Q/video.html

    Thank you for this! I'm going to try using a notebook as follows:
    Before starting I write down:
    -the date and time
    -a name for the task I'm about to start (like "preparing for tomorrows seminar")
    -jotting down the main things I want to do/breaking down the task into smaller bits
    Then after doing the task, I'll:
    -write down the time I'm done
    -write down the main things I learned or things I need to remember for the next time
    Hopefully then my brain will know I'm done with the task :D

    • @adhd-for-life

      This is a good start! I find even crossing out the task when you're done gives your brain a small dopamine hit for the accomplishment.

    So when I feel angry and resentful moving from one part of my day to the next, out of nowhere, this is frustration with having to break my focus and move it to something new?

    • @adhd-for-life
      @adhd-for-life  Před rokem +1

      Transitions can be hard when you’re deep into a thinking task, then you’re forced out of it from external influences. Or when you’re coming home from work and needing to transition into home life. These take patience and strategies to not dump our frustrations onto our loved ones or feel bad ourselves.
