    I’m 19. I’ve recently opened up a Roth IRA with fidelity and have contributed $449 so far.
    $150 in fxaix
    $150 in fskax
    $149 in ftihx
    Is what I’m doing good so far? I’m new to all this and I’ve just been watching lots of these index fund/3fund portfolio vids bc they seem like s great fit for me considering my age. But can I get any advice??

    • @jshepard152
      @jshepard152 Před 4 měsíci

      Heck yes, you're doing great. Investing for retirement is more about time than it is fund performance. By getting in at 19, you will be very well rewarded. My only advice is to invest regularly, as much as you can, and don't take a dime out of your funds until you're ready to retire. $100 invested at age 19 outperforms $300 invested at age 30, so do as much as you can, as early as you can. Personally, I like FNILX a lot. I'm using that fund to invest for my son, who is even younger than you. Once I get my son's account up to $3000, I'll consider moving him over to Vanguard VFIAX, which is where I'm invested. But if I'm happy with Fidelity, we might just stay where we are. Keep it up!

    I think of the fidelity zero index fund you talk about is mutual fund it's not an ETF right?
    However is this good time to invest in index funds instead good ETF ? I'm new to the stock investment so have a lot stupid questions and I would like to find the answer, and I find out your information is very good for the beginning like me.Thank you.

    • @DannySully
      @DannySully  Před rokem +1

      Correct these are index mutual funds.
      And no question is stupid, that is the only way to learn and grow and it's much respected that you are even asking. I honestly might make a video over this question in the near future but Index mutual funds are more favorable to me but only in a tax deferred account. When it comes to any account that is taxable i use ETFs. The reason is that ETFs are more tax efficient than any mutual funds. Does that help you out a bit? If you have any questions I would love to help or even make a video on it depending on the topic!

      @@DannySully you are so nice. I wonder what is the best to put into Roth IRA, also the turnover point is that well affected Income tax if it is the regular investment accounts, not the retire investment account, also how did you calculate the expensive ratio which is per ETF or the entire ETF you brought. Many Thanks for your time, or you can make a topic of that as welcome.

    • @DannySully
      @DannySully  Před rokem +1

      The turnover ratio will trigger capital gains taxes, so in a taxable account you want the turnover ratio to be low. If it is in the teens and above, to me that is way to much. My ETFs in taxable accounts are all typically 1-3% at most. Turnover is how often they change the positions in the fund, so when they do this it means they have to sell positions and thats why it is out of your control and triggers capital gains taxes.
      Expense Ratio: this is the annual fee for the entire fund, so it is not just one security in the fund. This fee is taken out throughout the year and you will not visually see it. A low expense ratio is not a big deal in the long run, but active funds that are much higher significantly impact your portfolio over the long run. The expense ratio is shown on any professional website with the data for the funds. This is not something I calculate myself but I use to determine how much it would cost if I were to invest say $10,000 or $100,000.
      Thank you for the questions and I hope this helps you out!

      @@DannySully Your information have been very helpful to me.
      I would like to know in your opinion, the economy now which is better off to invest CD or bond or ETF right now.
      Right now the CD interest for a year is compound 5%, and I believe most good bonds or ETF have at least 5 % compound interest in current market, most bonds and the ETF should be "compound interest rate" right??
      (some of the short bond probably one or two or three percent but which is not what I'm looking for)
      If holding the bonds longer and which will be capital gain and probably there's no tax for the income tax basket is under $40000 rate.
      But if it is CD, the interest on CD I think is come to the income tax rate, instead of capital gain rate, and I correct?
      thank you for your video in explain for the mutual fund vs ETF, I am looking into that and if I have any question I will let you know, once again thank you so much for your help.

    Most have done ok for their categories. Only FZROX stands out as a leader. It has outperformed VTSAX and FSKAX. It also leans more towards large cap companies, and the S&P 500 has outperformed VTSAX and FSKAX over the past 5 years.

      @jshepard152 From what I have checked on portfolio visualizer, adjusted for inflation, FXAIX and SWPPX have slightly outperformed FNILX (via dollar cost averaging).
      Since October 2018:
      - FNILX 15.44% per year.
      - VFIAX 15.49% per year.
      - SWPPX 15.50% per year.
      - FXAIX 15.52% per year.
      From a Lump sum one time investment, FNILX has slightly outperformed all others starting from October 2018.
      - FNILX 13.27%
      - VFIAX 13.20%
      - SWPPX 13.21%
      - FXAIX 13.22%

      FNILX is solid! Just personally prefer and have stuck with FXAIX

      @@akin242002 I don't doubt it, but I don't think it's reproducible. The fee structure is ever so slightly different, as is the composition of the index. So the two will be near identical, but one will always be ever so slightly higher, not necessarily the same one.

    Love the channel, thanks for the research & comparisons! I'll probably throw some money into the FZILX International fund just because I don't have any investments $ in an INT'L fund yet and it looks like a good place to start. Which type of ETF do you think would be best to bulk up first? I've got the Fidelity 500 Index & the Fidelity US Bond Index currently, then the INT'L mentioned above is about to start. I'm kinda considering getting that Bond fund to the point of it purchasing one of it's own shares (currently at 10.26 as an equivalent stock price) each time it gives dividends...

      Hey! Thank you for your kind words and for watching my content. I can not say exactly which specific ones but a total stock market index is not a bad option since it would also expose you to small and mid cap companies in the US. I'm happy to hear you are taking action!

    I'd like to sit down with an actual human. Be aware that if you want this, you can only make an in-person appointment if you have a significant amount to invest. At least, in my area, that's how it works. As a newbie, I don't want to do that, but I'm grateful for this video advising how to navigate the site and the company's options on my own.
