I think this is why her teacher wanted her to experience more of life rather than just playing the violin all the time. He wants her to be able to go beyond technical skills and be more able to express herself freely. That way, she can add more of her personal touch whenever she plays. This allows her to be more open to new things and continuously develop. That would be key in making her a one-of-a-kind superstar. What a great teacher!

@DaTong I was referring to his teaching her how to be a great violin player. Yes, he apparently made that racist remark on how Asians are stereotypically seen in the world of classical music, and he has apologized for it. Unfortunately, racism is a real problem that has caused so much pain and suffering, and even many of us Asians are guilty of this as well. While it is unfortunate when we found flaws about this teacher in other aspects, it does not diminish the fact that the advice given to her was sound.

What I like about this series is that Henry teaches his guest’ to improvise on their own while having fun instead of just following a piece .

@@irenetasyaalfonsius8425 I think if it's just interpretation of the music score is not disrespectful... Even though is it still in the scope of interpretation or not is debatable... But I think it's fair n square to interpret the music score when we play it... Even classical musicians have their own interpretation when playing same music score... Maybe in phrasing, tone, etc
Irene Tasya Alfonsius they dont have to do it on the composers music because when they do an improv they are making their own music (im really bad at making points hope you understand it somehow)
P.S Some child prodigies are taught at a young age to be loyal to the piece, follow it to your heart , memorize it. But sometimes they have to let their imagination run wild, let their creativity blossom so they would find out that music isn’t all about following a music sheet

Henry always keeps a low profile, he has a violin made in 1608 but he didn't show it here, he showed a violin made in 2018 instead. I love him

That’s what I expected of him. He undoubtedly has a good collection of instruments being an impressive musician but he’s also a wise producer that makes his show entertaining!😀

Just to add info: Maker of the violin adds more value than the year it is made. But nonetheless still pretty impressed that he owns a 400 year old violin.

I have so much respect for Henry after watching this clip. He tried so hard (and yes he's purposely doing this) to make his guest feel comfortable. He was so nice to Sohyun and went out of his way to make her shine. That kind of empathy and situational awareness is rare, scripted show or not. Asking her to play was one thing, but the 'follow my lead' part was fascinating to watch. She was as interested in trying to follow him as he was following her. Henry may not be a budding, world-class prodigy but he knows how to play his violin, and he's making it look easy. One doesn't just play a violin in tune as easily as he does, his vibrato, intonation, everything, he plays very well. And don't even get me started on the freestyle session! For a classically trained violinist like Sohyun, 100% free-styling to pop music is something she's probably never done and so what a great way to broaden her horizons. Great job Henry! Wishing you all the success.

현악기는 시간이 오래될 수록 관리를 잘해줄수록 소리가 중후해 지고 울림이 좋아집니다. 그런데 처음부터 잘 만들지 못한 악기는 오래동안 버티지 못해요. 좋은 재료와 장인 그리고 시간이 만든 선물이쥬...7년 바이올린 만지다가 그만뒀는데...노력이 부족했던 거같네요...존경합니다

Actually, Henry is really a genius even if he cant play classical muisc piece properly compared to this girl. He can do freestyle and can read notes easily and go with the beat. There are different people when it comes to playing violin, the one that can play the memorized piece and the one who can freestyle

Never interested in classical music before till i saw Henry's playing violin, not because he is the best, just his playing always attract me to immerse in his performance, just find free spirit in his playing of any instrument.
