The Most Beautiful Scene in a Horror Film (X)

- X by Ti West is a wonderful homage to old horror exploitation films, and not only is it tense and horrifying, but it’s also hilarious with an engaging script that can only be described as delightfully deranged. In this video essay, I look at the scene where Brittany Snow and Kid Cudi's characters play the song Landslide and analyze why the scene is one of the most beautiful scenes in a horror film. Particularly, I take a look at the film's somber, existential themes depicting what it's like to grow old, and why these themes make the film so good. Please enjoy this mini-review!

I think X is one of the few modern horror films that lives up to the classic horror movies we all loved such as Texas Chainsaw, Halloween, ect.
definitely agreed. It pays homage to those films while still feeling fresh at the same time.
Yeah it does everything right. The mixture of old style combined with newer style was so epic. Like the zoom in shots which adds to the creepiness. Epic film.
I felt so badly for Pearl… then the rest of the movie happened. Lol
lmao same, she went from victim to pure evil real quick
@@ReginaldWrites No, it's the story of the old woman at the farm. Maxine and the old lady looked crazy similar
@@karmaexists3541 yeah. Mia Goth played Pearl's character. And then she (Mia Goth) played the old lady (Pearl) in X and she also played Maxine in the same movie X. She played two polar opposites in X.
@@vanessab.c.7806 that’s why if she doesn’t get an Oscar nomination/win it’s highway robbery.
@@karmaexists3541 bc mia goth played both of them, she wore prosthetics for the old lady and then in pearl (the prequel) she played pearl
I'm honestly not a horror fan but I loved this movie. It had a lot of hidden depth.
One of the most powerful moments I've ever seen in a horror movie. I don't think I'll ever forget seeing "X" for the first time. When the Landslide scene happened, I almost couldn't believe what I was seeing. What I was being made to feel at this, a slasher film. There's a saying I really like: "Sometimes there is a miracle happening in front of a camera; not very often but sometimes..." This scene is one of those miracles.
I completely agree!
@@ReginaldWritesthis was a beautifully done analysis. Thank you 👏
Mia Goth would play an excellent Aileen Wuornos.
I know he is a musician but Cudi is killing it on guitar. I’m so used to knowing him as a rapper.
i didn’t find it horrifying but it was beautifully shot
One of the best horror films for me. Thank you, Ti West, A24 and Mia Goth. And thank you 4 this amazing video.
Great video here. X became one of my favorite horror movies. I liked it because it mixed the deep themes of psychological horror with the slasher elements that I love
I just thought it was a typical sex horror movie, but your commentary opened my mind about other deep things, thank u love
I appreciate it!
What’s a typical sex horror movie?
Very insightful video! I very much enjoyed this film although I'm not a horror movie fan 🍿
Thank you for the comment! I think many people who aren't interested in horror will also find it an enjoyable film.
X is legit a reimagined adult version of Peter and Wendy.
Great Video 🎥
Thank you so much!
First time I saw X was on cable. The first scene I saw was at the gas station. It was enough to draw me in. Wish I could've seen this in a theater.
It was playing at the gas station?! What scene was it?
0:01 Yes! The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. That's definitely this movie's biggest influence. Then you throw in some Scorsese and Tarantino, and BAM...you got yourself something refreshin'.
I enjoyed the movie X
She nearly sounded like the female singer from Fleetwood Mac couldn't tell the difference
I don't know that Howard and Pearl hated the young people because of a "difference in values" lol they were doing some pretty kinky stuff with the victims that were alluded to. But jealous of them very likely.
I think it’s more jealousy/ envy because the younger generation lived in a society where even though sexual expression and adult film was a bit taboo it was more accepted and how at their age they didn’t do all the kinky stuff that they wanted to do whereas for the others they do it with ease
How do she play she both characters. Mia plays Pearl in the prequel. I'm confused lol
She plays the old Pearl in X as well--you can watch the BTS footage of how they aged her up
Does anyone feel that this was ultimately a love story?!?
This disturbed me
How have you not talked about Pearl?
It'll likely come in the future!
@@ReginaldWrites looking forward to it.

It’s just not as good as everybody thinks it is
Trust me. I know. I was like I want my 5 dollars back. I did like Pearl, the prequel.
Just say it's not that good for you. You don't get to dictate what anybody else thinks is good or not.
7:57 I have to listen at at least 1.25x speed. Youuu...taaaalk...tooooo...sloooooow. Man, I'm really trying not to sound cynical (especially being someone that's a lot older than you), but that speech you gave towards the end, it's quite ridiculous. You wrote it as if it was existential poetry, but that's not how it came across. Mentioning gone from this Earth (as opposed to the other Earths) and fading away; that's some really nihilistic stuff right there. And wrapping it up with saying _'at least we can say we made the most of our ride'_ is such a hollow sentiment. Most of us don't make the most of our ride because life is tough. So it's just you lying to yourself, because technically you could've tried harder and done better.
I'm sure you didn't mean any of this in the way I'm describing, I'm just expressing how it came across, but not trying to project. As I flip-flop between insulting and praising you lol, I wanna say it's lovely to hear someone young say it's beautiful to grow old. I mean, it's not at all beautiful to grow old lol...quite the opposite as far as physically you become gross, and your body is decaying at a rapid rate which equals poorer mental and physical health. On the flip side, I do kinda consider my age a badge of honor because I genuinely have gone through so much. Also, I have to insert that I'm 43 into any conversation because they're assuming I'm in my 20's. So the 20 y/o's call me an old man (but still point out that I look and sound so young), and the guys who are like 50 something/60 (so not even that old) will call me a "kido" or "pup." Fuck, the hubris of that mindset; to believe *_you're_* the pinnacle of what's "normal."
