Do you want to smooth a waterfall to get that silky flowing look or smooth the waves on a lake to make it look like glass? You'll be able to do it with a 16-stop neutral density Filter -- but is the one I demo in this video any good? In this video, I test it out to see.
Here is the ND filter, how-to video that I mentioned in this video: czcams.com/video/mlL7bqg0OxY/video.html
    Gear used in this video:
Firecrest by Formatt Hitech - 16-Stop ND Filter (77mm): amzn.to/2Uj30Jx
Make sure you get the correct size to fit your lens -- they also have them in several different square sizes but they cost considerably more.

This was a great video. I was feeling very sad due to some family issues and the beginning of the video made me burst into laughter..."spending money which I should save for my children's education". Of course...being a hobbyist/enthusiast...I am very less likely to buy this filter...but still...it was a very good tutorial.
Thank you very much for your time and effort.

    Dear Anthony,
I found this a most interesting and informative video. I'm a recent subscriber to your channel and have been using your tutorials to learn ON1 Photo Raw 2019; you are a very good instructor! I appreciate your discussion of the app ND Timer. Most of my work involves film making but I'm about to take a trip to Europe and want to take photographs where there will be a lot of tourists. This video came at just the right time. Thank-you! Ditto for more ND filter demos.

All too often I see photographers on CZcams promoting some product and then in future videos they're using something else. So I have to say how happy I am so see you're still using the Vanguard Alto Pro carbon fibre tripod you demoed a couple of years ago. After watching that video I bought one and love it. So I will also take a look at this ND filter. Thanks Anthony.

Hi, Anthony. Two years ago for the August solar eclipse, I got the Formatt Hitech 77mm Firecrest Neutral Density 5.4 Solar Eclipse Filter (18-Stops). It performed beautifully, and as you noted there was no color cast. A tip for anybody who wants an eclipse filter: wait until a month or two before an eclipse. The price drops almost by half when there is an incipient event (dealers can buy in bulk to keep up with demand). But don't wait too long, as you could find dealers are sold-out and then you're SOL.
[Edit] Also I know guys who swear by the Xume Lens Adapter - it adapts your lens from a screw-on filter mount to a magnetic mount. Your filters just snap onto the lens, so there's less chance that you'll affect focus or other settings as you attach a filter.

Anthony, first let me say Thank you !! A few years back I watched your lightroom vids to learn how to use LR. I love your teaching and have recommended your vids to several.
I have two questions that are somewhat related regarding filters. I just recently bought some Nisi filters and I'm trying to learn. When combining a ND 10 stop, along with a 4 stop soft grad, do you set your shutter speed for the combined filters?? i.e 10+4= 14 stops ??
Secondly when using just the 4 stop soft grad do you adjust shutter as if there isn't a filter on your camera or do you still calculate your shutter time for the 4 stop soft grad ??
Again Thank you and keep the vids coming !!

This was absolutely great. A while ago, I met someone who took a four-year degree in photography. I am just getting into it as a hobby, so when I heard about this person's degree, I couldn't help but wonder how it could take four years. But the more I start to learn, the more overwhelmed I become, and the more I understand that four years is just the beginning.
Can I use the same filter you demonstrated for photographing a solar eclipse?

Have you tried the Gobe filters i have found them to be very good especially the three peak line and at a good price.

That is amazing haha! I love how the people "disappear" from the image! Does your camera come with an app? I think I can remotely take pictures with my camera with its app (Panasonic GH5). Might have to look into that, cause now when I take a long exposure photo I just use the timer function of the camera. However, that won't work if I go past like 30 or 60 sec exposure.
