Hi Jeremy, Your partial denture find is interesting. I ran a dental lab for 27 years, I can tell you what I know. They are probably not 200 years old, The part of the denture that is supporting the teeth appears to be vulcanite. This material became popular in the 1850's and was used up until the 1950's (some even later). It was a rubber product created by Charles Goodyear, The gold metal is likely a Type 3 gold colored partial denture metal, which crumbles and burns when melted. Parts of it could be gold, particularly the crown shaped shell that anchored it in place. The teeth are likely porcelain, but It is difficult to tell just by watching the video. The front teeth appear to be porcelain facings. I would guess that it could be 75- 80 years old, likely 1950's era. I have seen vulcanite teeth that were made as late as the 60's. Many people wear the same dentures for over 50 years, though they should be replaced every 3-5 years. I hope this information is helpful to you. I enjoy your videos, keep up the good work.
Nice eval Kaysie. I assessed them circa 1925. Based on the crude build it's possibly done by a traveling dentist as early as 1880. Definitely, an item for a dental specialist.

If they were, they would have just set them back down and marked the location.
The drier those devices get, the more issues that are present. I would not have handled them, after identifying them.

@@exploringwithnug You should visit. We have plenty of metal detector groups, but I've not heard of anyone diving the river bottoms. You could find anything from 10,000 BC onwards, The Romans, Vikings, Celts, sunken Doggerland, WWII vehicles...
Those teeth are valuable. Who ever lost them must have been fairly wealthy to be able to afford that kind of dental care. I wonder if someone died in the river and lost them or if a grave was washed into the river at some point.
People have mentioned asking a local dental collage to evaluate them. Someone should be able to tell you how old they are based on the materials and craftsmanship used to create them. I hope you do a video or two on your investigation into their history. There are likely some very interesting history to be found.

Yea, they must have quite a high value. My grandpa that passed away had a few gold teeth and usually gypsies in my country always have a few gold teeth. It's like a must for them haha

That partial is an incredible find. I'll wager they're easily 200 years old.
I was in the antique business for over 30 years, it'd have been really tough, but, I'd have had to donated it to a museum. The historians would gladly research how that partial came to be there. That information/history would be fascinating and fantastic.

Always get a receipt of value when you donate to a museum that way you can take that out of your taxes. If this is your job then your equipment cost can be taken off your taxes. I am an archaeologist and I take off for my boots, tools and a metal detector that I had to buy for relocating cemeteries.
Worked 7 years in a dental lab. No way those are 200 years old. I'd say maybe 30 or 40 tops. The gold crown is worth a lot when you buy it for your mouth lol but most likely would be melted down for scrap. Great find nonetheless.

@@TheHammer89 I’ve never worked in a dental lab and know you’re wrong 😂. My grandmother had dentures since the 50s plastic or resin not ivory and gold 😆 these are easily > a hundred years old. CAPS are not dentures . You can see here the gold was used as an anchor to a rooted tooth . You’re saying these antique dentures are from the 80s and 90s 😂 stop it

I was looking up old dentures and saw some that were found in England made of ivory and gold that were expected to sell at auction for £7000. More than $9000 US. Make sure you have someone very reputable look at those.

Hahaha, same here. Been at it about a year now. I got so interested in this stuff that I bought one of those big magnets and started doing some magnet fishing myself. Have t really found anything cool yet, but I've only been out twice so far just to see how it works. I live about a 10 minute walk to one of the 3 rivers in Pittsburgh, PA so I'll be checking out those rivers. Being that I've lived here my whole life, I've heard maaannnyyy, stories about "stuff" that's been "put" in these rivers. I'm not a diver so I gotta just stick to the magnets.

i was gonna say 80's, our stores here even kept them and used them for "Sorry" tokens thru the 90's into the 2k's till they changed owners then... i bet the new owner...who was a major douche, sold them on ebay... i mean, the man also lowered the sensor for the shake machine so it would drop the shake 1/4" below normal, as low as the sensor slot would let him tape the sensor in place... he altered the coco machine to use around 30% less powder, broke one trying to do that at a store and took the one from our store, then altered another one and put it at ours, orange juice same deal he altered the machine to use less concentrate... just real scumbag..
corporate made him sell his mcdonalds franchises after the district manager had 3 of my former co-workers get a job at his shops and they documented all the shady training shit he did.. like teaching people to box fries so your putting 1/2 as many in, but it still looked full... they also documented the shit he pulled on the machines sending images to jim... when i saw him years later he told me all this... then told me after checking my records for the time i worked for that place..why was i never made a trainer or shift leader, or manager? because, my mild autism makes it very hard for me to be dishonest and rip people off, or risk peoples health, etc... do things correctly, even if it takes longer, even if people have to wait another 30sec for their food... just... do the job correctly... shocks me how many people never get past that stage... having worked many jobs in many fields before becoming disabled... it dosnt get better above the fast food level... often it gets worse... less idiots but the quality of idiot is much higher... the higher you move... its sort of surreal when you realize how many Kyles, Kevins, and Karens are out there... who have jobs they arent qualified to do, and only keep them because they get others to do the work they arent qualified to do.. often treating those very people like trash in the process..
The teeth would be between the 1700 and early 1900s. The US stopped using ivory around 1770 but they still used it in Japan until early 1900s. If you can have someone do a test on them they may be able to tell you a little more. But old indeed. Thank you for sharing all your amazing finds! It's so awesome to watch your channel. Finding live pipe bombs in the water is a very serious thing! Those lower dental implants are from pre WW I
and were owned by someone who had the money to get them!
Aside from the bombs, I really liked the idea of diving to discover some really valuable and historical things
I know this is quite some time since your find here, but I have had some experience with with the things you brought up in this video. I am a former military, and an ex-cop. The pipe bombs looked legit to me. I found a similar one outside my home back in the day. I had an Explosive Disposal buddy come and get it. When he blew it up, it went big boom.
When I retired, I went into the Pawn business, and saw a lot of the denture and dental gold work. I would say once again you were right, they look like both real teeth and shaped ivory in the front (Which would be legal for you to own, based on the age). The yellow metal is probably dental gold that could range from 10kt to 22kt. They would add various alloys to harden the gold so it would last and not wear out so fast. I would guess you found them to be quite valuable. Even if only for the gold scrap weight.

A forensic dentist or contacting a college w/ a dentistry program in your area should be able to help you and/or direct you to a specialist to figure out the nature of those teeth. Great find!
No doubt about you Jeremy, if there is something unique or usual or just plain bizarre you will find it, lol. Those dentures gave me the shivers...I'm hoping no grave sites in the area were perhaps decimated or desecrated by prior flooding etc. I will be interested to hear what you learn about them. The monotype lead was used in old printing shops. It has a high Tin and Antimony content and is worth a lot more than plain lead to bullet casters
That Monotype ingot is for hot-metal type-setting from back in the day. The monotype machine let you type your copy, and would set the type in lead or alloys for printing. Pretty f'ing cool.

The seals (at least the one you got open) is NOT a notary seal, but a corporate seal. This would be used on certain official documents, such as Resolutions, certification documents, legal documents, etc. The one I use as secretary for my Masonic lodge is around 100 years old.
The mystery here is how a set of corporate seals ended up in a river.
That round, I think orange thing you found looked like an old 70’s am/fm radio! I still have one just like it, only yellow. They usually had a chain attached to it with a tong on the end of it for carrying it around or hanging it on something
I had a red round radio! When I was 10 it was my proudest possession!

okay so the biggest tip i can give you nugs is it you find explosives leave them by the water side A. it means its away from the public B. it means if it does detonate unexpectedly it will reduce the amount of people being around it and C. it has a far far far less chance to throw Shrapnel towards anyone or anything but great find bud
Very good episode Nug. Those stamps got me interested as my grandfather and his family owned and ran a manufacturing business in Pittsburg in the early 1900’s. I couldn’t find out much about those notary stamps other than a old book from 1960 The Pennsylvania Manufacturers Association. It says they started the Casualty Insurance Company in 1915 to handle the workmen’s compensation insurance. I don’t know if it is the same but very interesting read for me.

The round thing you found is an old, old am/fm radio. Myself and siblings got ones just like those in the early 70’s. My god they were awesome back then, a real Christmas present to get, especially because back then we didn’t have much money. I would have brought it up and cleaved it up, even if you just took the insides out and thrown them away, and somehow glued the disks, etc back in place! Awesome video!

Me too! Panasonic, had a chain and I carried that thing everywhere, eventually on my mom's car dash, when I started driving and she didn't have a working radio.
That was my thought immediately when I saw it, mine was red and I believe I got it in 1974 or so since I started driving in '76.

All I could find about dentures made from ivory was around the 18th century. Sometimes the teeth were made from both ivory and human teeth. I would have them looked at. I'm curious as to how old they are.

They were actually made of human teeth, cow teeth, horse teeth, or ivory... depending on the set (he had several different sets of dentures), but wood was never used in any known set of his dentures. The with depends on what the teeth are made of and what kind of metal is made from. My family makes dentures. My grandfather was a dentist who made his own dentures 80+ years ago and I'm pretty sure they predate that. Really cool! Should probably be in a museum but would look awesome on display in your home too!

Yes Jeremy you did. Mine has 1992 on it and it is still an active Notary seal for Florida. and while Florida uses a rubber stamp for the notaries, I use the embossed seal on all areas initialed by the person getting the notary done. It's added protection in that the embosser has raised edges that when run through a copier those edges turn black showing it is a copy and not the original document. I'm in my 8th term as a notary for Florida now. FYI a term is 4 years.
Regarding those antique dentures... I think I know how it happened from first hand experience. I was sailing in Maine when an older gentleman with dentures took a dip into the cold cold water. The water was so cold that when he gasped, his dentures popped out! They sailed to the bottom. Likely something like this happened to the wearers of this found set. Creepy set, though. Would love to hear more about them.

This blows my mind. My old highschool is about 2.5 miles from there, our old rival highschool is about 800 yards from there (their football stadium is literally on the river). I've eaten at Canoe (the restaurant behind you) a ton.
When those were found we heard all about it but had no clue of context and that was you finding them. I am supposed to be studying for my CFA exam right now and instead I'm checking out how to get into scuba diving...

Nug, best idea for handling explosives is to have a bucket of the river water to hand into which you can place anythig you find.
That way, they remain wet, do not risk drying out, and remain at a reasonably stable temperature.
I'd leave the bucket in stable ground next/as close to the river away from any vehicles or crowds of people.

That was so cool! And it was so nice to see such a nice PD. What was so funny is when the guy found the pipe bombs he was like shaking them and like "what's this?".... Then the police show up and call out the bomb squad, which I found very interesting btw, and they were so careful and controlled. No shaking them at all! I couldn't help but actually LOL at that. You could've just had the guy who found them, I'm sorry I do not remember which one it was, pick them up and hurl them into the bomb holder-thingie..(not the real name of it, I just made that up). I work for my local Sheriff's Office in the FL Panhandle and I'm quite sure "my" guys/gals would be just as nice to you guys. So, if you ever come to the FL Panhandle, find something and call 911, you may just get ME!!! Seriously though, that was extremely dangerous and you guys got lucky this time. Be a little more observant and careful down there!
