I've had a love/hate relationship w/my hair since it grew in long & crazy. Had to get a relaxer in high school 'cause I could not do it myself. Now it's natural (except for the color), still high maintenance but I'm trying to love it thru the heat & humidity of summer. I can relate to the journey!

So true. My Mother used hot comb off the stove on our hair every 2 weeks and we never heard of heat damage. Our hair was thick, long and healthy as kids/teens. Sounds like new terminology to me, since we never knew of such. I get so irritated when I hear people say keep heat out of your hair...silliest thing ever..We used tools straight off the stovetop and it doesn't get any hotter than that, lol. They just don't know what they are doing, that's all. We didnt have expensive natural hair care products back in the day either. Mom used one dollar Suave and White Rain shampoo and Conditioner...and Blue Magic grease. That was it. I think naturals are overthinking it. Keep it simple and stay consistent with washings.
RoyalNykki my mom use to hot comb my hair off the stove every 2 weeks as well. My hair was so healthy back then. She would trim my ends every 2 months. She used green Dax grease on my hair. I still have the smell of the hot comb in my head.

M I Not Necessarily true I go to a predominantly black school and I have 4c hair and kids always call me nappy headed. They label mix and Hispanic hair texture (loose curls, wavy type curls) or straight hair good hair and talk down on 4c. Some times it be your own people.

ha when you have a braids or a weave the weave or braiding hair is protecting your hair. Having your hair braided can help retain length and keep from breakage if done correctly. Protective styling is a concept that reduces ongoing manipulation of your hair, encourages growth retention and protects the ends of your hair strands, reducing knots and tangles. So saying that most people are wearing weaves because their insecure about their hair in some cases is true but not all the time. I’ve seen and know plenty of people that hair has grown because of protective styling so saying it doesn’t work is a understatement. And I myself have seen hair growth from keeping my hair protective styles even though I have long full 4b hair it really and truly does work.

Definitely reminds me of my niece. She used to love her hair until she got her hands on SM, wigs, and crochet curls 😩😩 I’m sad but I’m taking my time to ween her off and help her appreciate her natural beauty. The bump in the hair brought me back to when I was 10 years old and my mom would bump my hair and I cried for days. I hated it. But For sis Taylor here, it looks like she can pull anything off, including this bumped hairstyle.
