Misha is telling the truth. This is what I experienced on the track in 2013. I witnessed a lot of car crashes in wet conditions and people racing on the regular roads or doing u-turn drifts out of the local gas station to show off or rev under small tunnel areas. Leave the racing on the track, make sure to get new tires, your brakes and suspension checked/setup, maybe bring a track rated helmet. It’s not about big power to get around the Ring, but having a car to handle the stress of driving it on the Ring. Be careful and if you are the slower vehicle, please stay to the side and signal and it’s not about ego or trying to seem cool as you will end up ruining everyone’s day. Follow the basic track etiquette, grab a burger at the cool burger shack and chill in the parking lot and remember not to put your e-brake on after a few laps since your pads may get stuck after your rotors are hot - pro tip. I love Germany for keeping this track alive and the town in the middle and journey getting to the track is an amazing place on Earth.

I've gone to the Ring since 2008 every few months, some times every month. Even when covid hit I was able to go still but now I am now not rushing back. I've 1 trip this year booked to go as I pass the place. It's getting more and more dangerous. People chasing times, taking risks and not caring about consequences. The crowds its attracting are not desirable and I feel sorry for locals. Going back to pre top gear or early top gear times where brilliant. I would say they where the best times ever but new people who go now will say the same as they haven't experienced it previously. I am using the opportunity to explore other places but I will always defend and say the area is beautiful, the people are absolutely wonderful and the food is great. Many great memories but I will comeback properly later in life.

I agree with you completely. Been there from 1995 and it slowly creeped up to a redneck amusement park.
There was a time you arrived Sunday with barely 30 cars in the carpark. I too dont have the rush to go anymore. And I had periods from 95 till a few years ago that o was there every 2 weeks. Hell sometimes we just went from 1730 till 2000 on a weekday, it’s a 600km trip for me but I didn’t care.
Internet, CZcams and other not specific named reasons are slowly killing the place.
And I absoluut hate street show offs like you see at the ED tankstelle crossing.
They should confiscate every car involved no compassion for those street racers.

Would be good if the overflow carpark was one way towards the roundabout... trafficmanagement should be made smarter. Same for track closures, put a extra info sign 1 km further ahead or something. Saves a lot of waiting for nothing sometimes. For the rest amazing track :-) just avoid the busy days i think.

If you’re a petrol head then you have to go to the Nordschliefe. It is the Mecca for motor cars. On TF days you can get space on the track if you leave it 15-20 minutes from the track opening as most drivers are queuing for the opening. After 15-20 minutes they’ve done their couple of laps and there is space available. What caught me out was the high speed of the track and the gradients. Most corners are =>100mph and it can feel like a rollercoaster as the gradients are so steep.

There is for sure a certain type that come and spoil it for everyone else, and give things a bad reputation, despite the fact that actuallu on track are the real people, and less incidents than you would think. My friend came for the 1st time for easter and she asked why do these idiots do this dumb stuff on the public road.. simple because they are not track drivers! If you are worried about too many people come for mid week laps with mostly locals

    Sorry,
every foreigner will learn on the first weekend in germany that sunday is off and shops are closed with just a tiny amount of excemptions.
The usual emigrant would somehow search for the answer WHY and will find answers even on youtube where then the british and american immigrants that are living here for a quite long time will explain how they appreciate that rhythm that close to everyone has a free sunday and that all come back with fresh motivation on monday morning after a nice weekend with the family where everyone was at home.
And if you live in a foreign country and run a business then ask your locals, your partners or chamber of commerce = IHK for advice which then would put you on a list of foreigners running a business to support you better and to avoid such stupid mistakes of an invitation on a silent holiday cause every german knows that there are just 4 silent holidays where you can not open a dance club or start an event and what not:
good friday + memorial day + all saints day + dead sunday
The church would instantly start a big protest cause they have a 200 year old contract.
I do not know if there are christian countries that are partying on these days but a local guy would usually be able to explain that to anyone who is asking. But the german states made a contract with both churches and the pope about 200 years ago after the victory over Napoleon where the rights of each party had been separated. As a result we have a free sunday to visit the holy mess and people do not have to work (except emergency forces and hospitals).

But this has nothing to do with bureaucracy cause it is a 200 year old contract like other contracts too for example that the german employers collect the money for the church tax (which is an additional tax and about 8% or 9% of the income tax) and pay that out via the agency of finance which pays it to the churches.
You need to ask for permission for every event (beyond your wedding or birthday party in case it will affect the traffic and parking situation) cause you are then the responsible person or company who is liable for all the mess that could happen. Who else should pay for cleaning the streets and what not for damages around the event area?
If the Nuremberg Ring is doing an event they have to ask for permission, if you do a party or an exhibition you need a permission, why not if you are using public space and traffic and that can cause issues ? Has always been this way since at least the 80s even for sport clubs.
And if you have done it before without permission then you simply had the luck that you had not been caugt. The police does nothing about what the Ordnungsamt is doing (except a tiny few amount of excemptions, but not even COVID ) cause those are fully separated entities / agencies as we have lived in a totalarian state which russia is now suffering where everyone has known everything.
Same for example for rowing championchips cause the canal is a water high way for commercial shipping with certain rules and obligation.
For a rowing regatta you need even 2 permissions on a canal used for commercial shipping even on weekends cause commercial shipping is working on weekends. 1 permission from the Ordnungsamt and then another one from the agency for germany "water highways".
The water highway police will visit the event and look for yachts that are passing by too fast over the speed limit, but we do not need a permission.

Sooner or later the track will get new regulatins regarding emissions. The public is no longer willing the risks of that cause other people are living there. Do the math cars coming x average consumption and then by gr. CO2 + tyre wear + brake wear dust = you will get it.
The Ring will get a limit of total emissions and can decide, what they wanna do: being a Race track on 5 weekends or offering daily taxi drives or what not. If they have used their emission rights games over for the season.
Where will it end ? simply cleaner and greener so most likely in a world of races on the weekend and a yearly decreasing amount of ice cars and more EV cause EV will have no or close to none emissions when they charge renewables at the hyper chargers from the ring.
This is no phantasy cause the agency to protect the environment has been asked and will be sued if they do not start lowering the risks.
Police controls were just the beginning of law enforcement. The current business model is dead and has been for almost 5 years but they did not listen and no wonder that locals are not happy about all the mess and rubbish ,
especially all the rubbish people throw out of the car while driving along the road even though forbidden without the signs.
Same for all the smokers that throw their cigarettes out of the car or the plastic or cardboard - police will stop them and the fines can be high plus car inspection on top cause who is ignoring the street law that way ignores the rules for street legalness most likely too.
I am sick and tired of the amount of rubbish that can be found on all the streets leading to the ring - and that has become more worse in the most recent years compared to 20 or 30 years ago.
