    I always tell folk that are worried to buy 3 and then I reassure them that its still cheaper than the HYPE pumps...so its always a win for me 🍻 man great review

    Had 4 jecod pumps, 3 wave makers & 1 in a skimmer. All 3 wave makers packed up within a year. Went back to what are now 17 year old Tunze pumps, which have never missed a beat. For me, buying cheap is false economy. Same goes for skimmers; in last 7 years have tried 3 different cone shaped skimmers, none of which can hold a candle to a 20 year old Deltec apf600, which although a little noisy, is still working excellently.

      The only things that will survive a nuclear explosion are cock roaches and Tunze pumps.

    The return pump is working since 2017 without a problem. Silent and smooth.
    The sw powerhead started to run backwards after 1.5 years working in constant mode and I never found the solution.

    DCP-10000: 2units - 1 as main return1 as backup/saltwater mixing station -> DT filling pump (fro mbassement to 1st floor above using flexible food grade hose)
    2 years + goign strong. its a big silent pump.
    Powerheads:A few SW8 and SW4 .. I thin kal lof them died by now. I used them for a year as main tank pumps then relegated to utility (salt water mixers, sump flow) where they died.
    So yeah .. they are a bit iffy... but hey i bought them ~50eur a pop.
    Return pums 100% recommend. For powerheads ehhh its a good cheap startin place but IMHO if you want reliability go tunze... screw looking good and fancy controllers. those things seem to be very reliable

    I’ve just bought an SLW10 for my nano and it’s a super little pump, love the controllability you get with these pumps that you just don’t find on others in the same price bracket

    Vortec pumps will do a great job. Problem I find with my 2 MP10’s is that the wet side seems to have about a 12 month life before replacement is needed. They are close to £60.00 and I can certainly hear when they fail. Each wet side has had to be replaced.

    I had two of the mp40w es which cost me an arm and a leg. They were noisy and then vortech stopped supplying the component parts. Bloody rip off. New tank I have two cp55w's a cp90 and an rw4. Although the gyre models are a sod to take apart and clean, and I cannot find any spares, they are great as long as they are kept clean... Oh, and a DCP 8000 running the return and manifold. They are so cheap, you can afford to have a spare sitting around.

    Jebao all the way, I've bought some name brand pump and can't tell the difference. I run a dcp-8000 for return 1.5 years old an only cleaned once. 1 CP-25 gyre 2 years old and 2x SOW -20 nearly a year old. Never had a problem an will gladly buy another one new if one breaks with the $ I saved.

    I am a Tunze guy. Quality shortcomings will show down the road on Jebao. And they are not that cheap if you look at a long term use. I feel this hobby is not cheap and trying to take shortcoming in some aspects will turn to bite you later on (but I agree, usually not on the flow aspect). In the end you will pay more.

    • @semaphor3
      @semaphor3 Před 4 lety +2

      All kit fails, including your Tunze gear. I know people running jaebo returns for over 5 years without failures. If a pump lasts 2/3 years and costs 100 $ to replace I’m okay with that vs spending 400$ to replace it. This hobby isn’t cheap but I also feel there is price gouging going on, some of the kit is borderline daylight robbery in terms of cost, charging 600-700$ for molded plastic (skimmers)

    I haven't used Jebao pumps in years, but yeah they lasted all of about a year plus a few months and all died at similar times. One thing I did notice is the rubber part of the magnet tended to disintegrate in the water, as it'd leave black on my hands if I rubbed it, not too happy about that because who knows what crap that was putting in my water.

    I do like high end kit, and because I’m going to be running the apex i thought about going for the cor pumps, but decided for the price I have have 3 dcp 8000’s on hand should one fail. If a cor fails thats gonna be a harsher replacement cost.

    Jebao all the way for me using a 3500lph return pump and 2 SLW-20's in the tank and if it wasn't for the sound of air being sucked into my skimmer the tank would be silent(it is silent with the skimmer turned off)

    Anyone else have issues with master/slave mode staying in sync on the SOW series? I've had 2 PP-4's for years with no comm issues but I've now gone through 2 sets of SOW-4's in about 3 months because they would randomly drop comm with eachother, requiring a power cycle to fix. The SOW motors are quieter than the PP's but there seems to either be a quality issue with the new controllers or I've had some bad luck.

    For the money and in this hobby, you need a break wherever and whenever you can. I compare it to a Toyota vs a Lexus. It gets you there but not in great luxury but at 1/2 the cost.

    Wonder how they are for leds? There are some radion look alikes by them with cree lenses on Aliexpress. One of the ones I have looked at waiting for the photons to come in! lol Would you consder it? I know the pride was less than the photon by about 75 bucks and I definetly like the look better then the legs on thos photons so probably going to have to make hubby build me some kind of mount or a canopy! Wouldnt have to do that with the Jecod. ooops just looked it up and its Jebao! I was thinking it was the brand that made the wavemakers or is this what you mean by one of the many names? I think Jabeo is wave makers too right? Its actually 150.00 cheaper too. Do you have your new photon yet? Whens the youtube coming out?

    • @ReefDork
      @ReefDork  Před 4 lety

      I wouldn't consider them for LEDs, - I like other people to try things out and build up a reputation first. I have seen that with Evergrow/Reefbreeders, but I haven't with Jecod. Doesn't mean they're bad, I just prefer other people to experiment before I do! By different names, I mean the pump names - DCT, DCP, SOW, DCS etc etc. I've lost track. But I do also wonder why they're called Jecod and Jebao. My new light has arrived - i'm making a hanging bracket for it first so it'll be a week or two before it's up. Probably a while before I do a video on it though - I might wait until i've had it 6 months so I can do a proper long-term review.
