This week we make a small garden project, build a platform stairs and prepare for the lamination of the inside of the hull.
We are a Swedish family who have sailed the world since 2016 while sharing the adventures here on CZcams. While we are still sailing, our main focus now a days is building RAN III, a 50 ft sailboat that we are building from scratch. We post a new episode every Friday so make sure to subscribe and hit the bell to be the first to know when there is a new episode!

The new archway, platform, and steps look great. This is just my interest, but each week you could add a word or phrase of your home language to help us learn a little about your language while we watch the videos. It could be a simple word or even a phrase related to what you are doing in the episode. It's a simple way to share your cultural language since you already know the English language so well. Just a thought...

Malin. My friend Joan is a master gardener here in Pennsylvania (US). She plants purple hyacinth beans at the base and they grow up and over the entire arbor every year. They grown very large (10-12") purple beans that are very showy. Clematis can be very nice plants but they are sometimes a little harder to grow. If they do well, great. If not, you might want to give the beans a try. Note that they are annuals. Johan - you are doing a great job too!! Love Vera! Ron

I have watched them all. You invest so much time and money into this project. I'm asking myself, if I would not rather have settled with an older boat, which would definitely not have been the ocean-going yacht of my dreams, but it would have been more affordable and available on the spot. Your newbuilding ages while still under construction - and so do you. Will you still be committed to ocean travel once the building is complete? I enjoy to see your progress and I appreciate your dedication. I have learnt a lot and I can't wait to follow you on your next ocean adventures. Thank you für many well-wasted hours on CZcams. Boats are like space ships. The amount of time to build one is 4x the time to build a house. They are precious, like the people who sail them, because one a percentage of population base boat builders and sailers are less than one one hundredths of any population. On another topic, it might be interesting to learn why you two can build things. What prepared you to build a 15 metre boat?

congratulations . your family adventure ,courage and skills are impressive/inspiring ,especially the flipping of your boat ! sharing of 3 thoughts on your boat build and safety : 1.having experienced serious storms myself ,I strongly recommend to prepare and install a largely overbuild anchoring system ,as efficient and safe as you can make it ,going far beyond common recommendation .
    2. casual break ins are likely to increase : make all entry points as secure as possible
    3. unusual ,but worthwhile to investigate : instead of normal mast configuration ,creating a super strong tabernacle ,extra long to have more connection points of tabernacle and mast and to have the boom hanging from tabernacle directly . that seals any leakage of water at mast into the boat ,allows easier emergency mast set up and with boom and mast rest ,can easily lower and realign mast at any wished for time in a controlled way. that allows you easy access to rivers and lakes below bridges and
thereby as well storm emergency hide outs ,you would otherwise not have access to .

9:04 probably would be easy to just build an exterior frame at the end that's tied to the stairs. Then you can remove all the bracing inside. An old quick and dirty boat repair trick i saw years ago was to take plywood (as thick as you can get it, where it bends with ease on the shape of the hull), take some wood strips (something like 30x4x2 cm) and screw them in (on the end) every 20 cm. Then you'd put a plank on the floor and using wood strips like the one you're holding in your hand at the timed index, connect the "rays" that result from bending the half-a-ladder unto the frame of the boat to the plank below resulting in a quick and very simple to make boat support. I've seen this used in a wooden fishing boat refit, where the tide had smacked the boat unto the peer and cracked the hull. They were out and in under 48 hours. Probably the fastest repair i'd seen, mostly thanks to the old salt being an absolute genius of jigs and angle cuts and all the required knowledge of seamless repairing of wood.
