  • Explore the historic market town of Chipping Campden in the Cotswolds with me, as it is a very special town for a number of reasons:
It has a magnificent ‘wool’ church
It has a lovely High Street
The impressive market hall and numerous historic listed buildings
The Cotswold Way footpath begins and ends in the centre of Chipping Campden
    The Court Barn Museum
    The Arts and Crafts Movement
    The Silk Mill
It’s famous people such as C.R Ashlee, the founder of the Guild of Handicraft
Ernest Wilson, the botanist and explorer
    The wool merchant William Grevel
The cloth merchant Sir Baptist Hicks
The unusual annual event, the Cotswold Olympicks and the shin kicking competition
    It's twin town - Pont- D'Ouilly, Normandy
Nearby are the great gardens of - Hidcote Manor Gardens owned by the National Trust, Kiftsgate Gardens, Sezincote House and Gardens, Batsford Arboretum and Bourton House gardens

Very nice Anne, and very informative, and now subscribed. I live on the southern edge of the Cotswolds. Now that I follow you and The Cotswold Explorer I am getting even more knowledge. We used to have a timeshare in the fabulous ornate magnificent Stouts Hill Manor House in Uley, but that has all been sold off now into private hands. So called progress! Stephen Fry used to attend it when it was a Boys School, which he remembers with horror, and old suspicious ex Premier Edward Heath used to have the apartment next to ours. If walls could talk! Happy Tuesday! : ) xx

Thank you Bobby, really pleased that you’ve enjoyed the videos. I remember researching Stouts Hill School some while ago for a coach holiday I was preparing for. Captain Mark Philips was also a pupil there too I believe.
I hope to have another video out shortly when the weather improves and I’m neither soaked or looking too bedraggled in the stormy weather we’ve been having.
      Wishing you all the best.
      Anne

@@AnneBartlett Thank you Anne. It does not surprise me that Mark Philips went there, or that his marriage to Princess Anne ended. I met Princess Diana back in 1986 when she opened a children's hospice at Willen in Milton Keynes. She was wonderful to talk to, and I took around a dozen pictures of her back then. I cried when she died. She was the Princess of my County of Northamptonshire. As her funeral cortege passed through the M1 in Northamptonshire taking her home I placed a single red rose on top of her hearse. That part of the journey was not shown in the media. Tens of thousands of 'locals' walked across fields to get onto the M1. The police tried to stop us but they were heavily outnumbered. The hard shoulder was lines with a sea of people, and every bridge was overloaded with even more. There were so many roses thrown onto the hearse that the driver and the police out riders had to keep stopping every few yards as they could not see where they were going. It was the eeriest and yet most beautiful thing that I have ever witnessed. The crowds were silent apart from sobbing, and the whole motorway was covered in red roses. You could hear the soft crunching as her hearse drove slowly past. It was very moving as England's Rose sailed home on an ocean of red rose petals. I can't wait to see your next video, and I am so glad the storms have finally ended. Take care. All the best. Bob xxx

As a teenager I lived near Campden and, now abroad, often return. It puzzles me how Campden is less popular than many other Cotswolds sites, like Broadway for example. Is there a better High Street in the Cotswolds? Combined with other nearby attractions like Dover’s Hill and the gardens at Hidicote and Kiftsgate why go elsewhere?
