      1. Reduce your life points to 1 and this card gains ATK equal to the amount of life points paid.
      2. Pay 1000 life points to destroy 1 monster on the field.

They could have easily given it those effects on special summon (changing it from 1 lifepoint to 100) as well as the one where it gains the ATK/DEF of the tributed monsters. It could also be made to be untargetable by effects like Obelisk. Add those things to the effects all the real life gods have and it would be perfect. Not meta defining or broken since it came out pretty late, but definitely playable and not necessarily the worst of the 3.

No, the anime just straight up disregards the mangas concept of the divine hierarchy. This is seen clearly in the anime's duel between yami marik and yugi. In the manga when yugi attacked with obelisks infinite attack effect, it does not work due to Ra being a higher rank. In the anime this is simply cut out and replaced with Marik activating a spell card that negates Obelisk's attack.

An easier way to implement the "Divine hierarchy" without adding an entire new mechanic would be to use the following effect.
"Unaffected by other card effects, ---except the effects of DIVINE monsters.--"
By leaving that last bit out for Ra, you've created the same situation with alot less words. You could also leave it in since the anime had the 3 mostly equal in power. We can also take some liberties with the effects and ignore fringe examples and inconsistencies in the anime. So the effects would be.
    (Universal)
Requires 3 tributes to normal summon and can't be normal set. The Normal summon of this card cannot be negated. This card is unaffected by other cards effects (except the effects of DIVINE monsters), and cannot be tributed by your opponent. During the End phase, if this card was Special Summoned, send it to the graveyard, or if it was summoned from the hand, return it to the hand.
    (Obelisk specific)
When this card declares an attack, you can tribute 2 other monsters you control; Destroy all monsters your opponent controls.
"In this case the 4000 damage would just be Obelisks attack"
    (Slifer specific)
This card gains 1000 ATK and DEF for each card in your hand. If your opponent summons a monster, in Attack position reduce it's ATK by 2000. If your opponent summons a monster, in Defense position reduce it's DEF by 2000. If a monster's ATK or DEF is reduced to 0 by these effects, destroy it.
    (Ra Specific)
This card gains ATK/DEF equal to the total respective ATK/DEF of the monsters tributed to Normal Summon it. If this card is Summoned, you can pay LP until you have 1 left; This card gains ATK/DEF equal to the amount paid. (Quick Effect) You can tribute 1 monster you control; This cards gains ATK/DEF equal to the tributed monsters ATK/DEF. If this card is Special Summoned from the Graveyard, you can tribute it; Special summon 1 "The Winged Dragon of Ra - Phoenix Mode" from your hand, deck, or Graveyard.
    (Phoenix Mode)
Must be Special summoned by the effect of "The Winged Dragon of Ra" and cannot be special summoned by other ways. (Insert universal god effect here). Cannot be destroyed by battle. You take no damage from battles involving this card. If this card Attacks, you can pay 1000 LP, and if you do, destroy all monsters you opponent controls.
Wordy but probably the best way to implement them in the card game without needing their own rulebook. They'd actually be pretty usable beyond casual duels too. New Slifer is a nasty floodgate, Obelisk is a better Qli Towers, and Ra becomes an OTK machine. Konami can print all the janky support they want but what the gods really need is proper retrains.

  • @a.jperez202
    @a.jperez202 Před 2 lety +266

Its worth noting that there are differences with the abilities and protections the god cards have between the anime and manga. Also the Divine hierarchy does not exist in the anime, only in the manga. Some points I want to touch on:
-Requiring 3 tributes to normal summon was a byproduct of battle city rules regarding 10 star monsters(except for Ra it seems, since 3 tributes are specified in its text). In the manga, before battle city rules were implemented, Kaiba play tested Obelisk vs the duel computer and he normal summoned it without any tributes. In the anime, this duel is changed a bit by already having battle city rules implemented.
-In the anime we see some spell and trap effects affect them for multiple turns. For example, The Seal of Orichalcos permanently boosted Obelisk's attack by 500 points. This lasted for several turns until Obelisk left the field. Also, Nightmare Steel Cage prevented Slifer from attacking and using its second mouth attack for 2 turns as well during yugi vs strings. Also in R, Swords of Revealing Light prevented The Wicked Avatar(of the same divine rank as Ra)from attacking for multiple turns, forcing Tenma to destroy the swords. This was explained by saying the swords affected the whole field, not just 1 monster. The same would probably apply to the seal. Lastly, during the anime's ceremonial battle, Obelisk's effects were permanently negated and its attack points permanently reduced by little yugi's trap card Ground Erosion. This was explained as working because the trap card did not target Obelisk. So non targeting effects can apparently bypass their (only for 1 turn) immunity, as well as cards specially tailored to work with god cards like Divine Evolution and Mound of the Bound Creator.
-We see atleast 1 spell successfully destroy a God card. Ragnarok during yami marik vs yugi successfully destroyed Ra. It was also strongly implied that Ishizu's trap Blast held by a Tribute would have destroyed Obelisk. Ishizu, the original holder of obelisk saw an alternate future where it happened, and even Marik, a god card holder himself, believed it was going to work. And for the sake of completeness, The Pyramid of Light trap card permanently banished all three god cards on the field.
-We see at least one instance where a non-divine monster effect worked on a god. Kaiba's Sword of Soul boosted Obelisk's attack points by 1000 during his duel with yugi.
-They can be destroyed by battle with an ordinary monster. In the manga Obelisk was destroyed in battle with Silent Swordsman during the ceremonial duel. In the anime, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma the magnet warriors were able to destroy Obelisk by battle, in concert via the effect of Brave Attack. In R, The wicked Eraser(an evil god card) was destroyed by battle with Joey's monster(Gilford, iirc).
-In the anime, during the ceremonial duel, the Pharaoh special summoned Slifer from his hand and it remained on the field for several turns until it was destroyed by little yugi redirecting its own effect towards itself. So it seems in the anime its special summon limitation only applies to being special summoned from the graveyard.
A few more things to add to Obelisk and Ra's effects. Obelisk could activate its effect and attack during the opponen's battle phase as well. With Ra's one turn kill and phoenix mode effects, it could also attack on the opponent's turn. In the manga, Ra possessed an ability called quick attack that the other gods did not possess. It meant that it could attack on the same turn that it was special summoned. This rules restriction involving special summoned monsters did not exist in the anime, so this was changed to Ra just being able to attack even if there was an effect which prevented monsters from attacking.

    • @DarthPyrusTheVirus
      @DarthPyrusTheVirus Před 2 lety +19

If I recall, Ragnarok in the manga was Magical Dimension, which seemed to loophole Ra's protection by acting as an effect and attack at the same time. I'm not sure what Ragnarok was supposed to be or why it worked... I'm assuming Blast Held was also a way to bypass Obelisk's protection by being "inherited" and not exactly "targeting" him? Or whatever.
As for non-targeting effects, it's kind of a toss-up, isn't it? Mirror Force got punched through by Obelisk in the anime, and that's a wide removal card. Spellbinding Circle trapped Slifer but only for one turn, so Traps DO apparently work even if they target, but they cannot destroy a God. I'm assuming that's where the blanket "cannot be destroyed by effects" comes from, so something like Dark Hole wouldn't work to get rid of the Gods.

    • @a.jperez202
      @a.jperez202 Před 2 lety +14

@@DarthPyrusTheVirus Yeah, Ragnarok's effect was just, "If you control 2 spellcasters, Banish every monster in your deck and graveyard and destroy every monster on your opponent's field". So like a shitty Raigeki basically. In the Manga, Dimension Magic induced a battle, and basically gave 2 magicians the same ability that Phoenix Ra had, which was to destroy any monster by battle regardless of atk points and without applying damage to lifepoints.
I should note that in the manga(in contrast to the anime), the god cards immunity to effect removal was never put to the test besides with blast held by a tribute which was averted. Generic board wipes with no stipulations or costs like raigeki were banned. We are told in the manga that a gods attack would not meet the trigger for a trap card's activation, with some exceptions like Jam defender. So mirror force would not even have the opportunity to activate. Though traps with no trigger conditions could be activated in response to a gods attack, like little yugi's Crumbling axe vs obelisk. Spellbinding circle could fall in this camp, but im not sure.

Thank you for this. I am frankly shocked at the number of mistakes TGS made in this video as I have counted 5 wrong effects for the god cards, one iffy effect, and one I can't find any basis for.
Wrong Effects: Divine Hierarchy, Can't leave the field via effects, can't be destroyed in battle, you take no battle damage, effected by cards for only one turn.
Iffy Effect: Control can not be changed. The proper way to state this is that they can't be changed via any of your opponent's card effects as Ra DID change control to Marik even though Mai correctly summoned it due to not knowing the chant.
No Basis: I can not find any instance of a duelist trying to tribute a god card their opponent controlled. This is brought up on the wiki but not the reason why.

So, question about Ra's effect I never thought of before. If Ra gains attack/defense based on the monsters tributed to summon it, and also for the life points you pay, I wonder why they reduce it's attack to zero in the defusion effect. For example, lets say you sacrifice 3 monsters with 1000 attack each, then sacrifice 2000 lifepoints for a total of 5000 attack. Once u do the defusion effect you'd go back up to 5000 life points, even though you started with 2000 right? Could have been an interesting strategy, sacrificing the god's power to make yourself stronger. Also could be interesting if they only refunded your lifepoints sacrificed (in the above case Ra would drop from 5000 to 3000 attack, your life points would go up by 2000) so that even after the defusion it isn't totally useless.

However he made a mistake and Ra's anime effect is not fusion mode, and de-fusion mode. When Marik Special summoned Ra, he put all of his life points except 1 life points into Ra, and then he also tributed other monster to increase Ra's attack even more. de-fusion was put face-down during that same turn, and because it was a quick play he cannot activated this turn, so when he attack with Ra, because magic cylinder would have make marik lose the duel, so he discard de-fusion from face-down on the field to activated Ra's ability to put all the attack point as life points, In order to proof he was not cheating he had to reveal de-fusion and people misrepresented that as activating the card. For the same reason people thought they where activating monster reborn during the opponent turn to special slifer the sky dragon so slifer the sky dragon can protect obelisk the tourmentor. Monster reborn was discarded from hand or field to activated that effect.

Here's my take on "retraining" the God cards to give them more of their anime effects/protection, while still keeping them somewhat realistic:
    Retrained Osiris:
(This card's name is always treated as "Slifer the Sky Dragon".)
Requires 3 Tributes to Normal Summon (cannot be Normal Set). This card's Summon cannot be negated. When Summoned, cards and effects cannot be activated. Your opponent cannot Tribute this face-up card on the field, control of this card cannot switch, and it is unaffected by your opponent's Spell/Trap effects and by activated effects from any monster whose original Level/Rank is lower than this card's current Level. Once per turn, during the End Phase, if this card was Special Summoned: Send it to the GY. Gains 1000 ATK/DEF for each card in your hand. If a monster(s) is Normal or Special Summoned to your opponent's field in Attack or Defense Position, that monster(s) looses 2000 ATK or DEF respective to its position, then if its ATK or DEF has been reduced to 0 as a result, destroy it.
    Retrained Obelisk:
(This card's name is always treated as "Obelisk the Tormentor".)
Once per turn, you can Tribute 2 other monsters; destroy all monsters your opponent controls with ATK less than this card's and inflict 4000 damage to your opponent. You cannot conduct your Battle Phase the turn you activate this effect, also for the rest of the turn after this effect resolves, your opponent takes no damage.
    Retrained Ra:
(This card's name is always treated as "The Winged Dragon of Ra".)
Requires 3 Tributes to Normal Summon (cannot be Normal Set). This card's Summon cannot be negated. When Summoned, cards and effects cannot be activated. Your opponent cannot Tribute this face-up card on the field, control of this card cannot switch, and it is unaffected by your opponent's Spell/Trap effects and by activated effects from any monster whose original Level/Rank is equal to or lower than this card's current Level. This card's ATK/DEF become the combined ATK/DEF of the monsters Tributed for its Summon. You can pay any amount of LP in increments of 100; this card gains ATK/DEF equal to the amount of LP paid. When Special Summoned this card gains these effects:
•This card is unaffected by other cards' effects and cannot be destroyed by battle, you take no battle damage from battles involving this card, also once per turn, during the End Phase: Send it to the GY.
•(Quick Effect) Once per turn you can pay 1000 LP to send all monsters your opponent controls to the GY (cards and effects cannot be activated in response to this effect's activation).

Also for Slifer’s mouth attack, it is shown in the same duel that it does in fact destroy monsters with 2000 or less attack. The infinite loop is triggered by this effect as Revival Jam is repeatedly destroyed due to Slifer’s mouth attack, and Strings is forced to draw 3 cards due to Card of Safe Return. Safe Return activates it’s effect when a monster is special summoned from the graveyard. Yami Yugi merely mastered what he had observed in his duel with Strings.

There is a logical explanation as to why Slifer's effect destroys the monster if it hits 0. Remember that the game is inspired by MTG, where creatures take battle damage and die when their toughness goes to 0. The anime and manga both mention that monsters can take battle damage. So it's an atk that deals 2000 points of damage to a monster. Remember that Slifer couldn't activate this effect under nightmare steel cage, more evidence that it is an attack. Although this doesn't explain why it also kills 2000 def position monsters. Probably just because it's a god card.
The battle damage explanation also explains why Yugi was able to block obelisks damage dealing effect with Kuriboh. Kuriboh negates battle damage, which Obelisks effect is.

This is a really interesting but confusing topic to cover. I don't think the writing team ever really had anything to go off of in terms of effects when it came to the Egyptian Gods, they just kind of figured it out as they went along. The Gods full effects were probably left ambiguous to the writing team on purpose so that they could make them do another cool trick to keep their appearances from getting stale and for the sake of convenience. This is all just speculation though. I really like the flavor text on RA, it sounds so damn menacing, but it's just too long to fit into a card.

@@dancorneanu9144 The D&D period was over by the time Battle City rolled around. The MTG influences are still here, however. The God's effects are fairly consistent in the manga. Monster Effects that are not God effects don't affect them, & neither do Traps. Spells affect them for 1 turn only, & they cannot be automatically destroyed (which means Spells like Lightning Vortex wouldn't work even tho. the Gods *are* affected by Spells).
They each require 3 Tributes via the Battle City rules, but that's due to the Level of the monster in question & not an inherent God effect. Osiris' & Obelisk's unique effects are pretty simple; Osiris reduces a monster's stats by 2000 according to its battle position & destroys it if those stats reach 0. How it gains ATK is self explanatory. Obelisk tributes 2 monsters to gain infinite ATK. That gets translated as a 'win the duel' effect that destroys all monsters & reduces LP by 4000 b/c that's what a monster attacking w/ infinite ATK would do.
Ra's effects are more complicated, but still understandable. It gains ATK/DEF equal to monsters Tributed to Summon it or by its own effect. If Special Summoned from the GY, it can attack that turn (Special Summoned monsters couldn't normally attack the turn they were Special Summoned in the manga) & perform either its OTK (by allowing you to pay any and all LP you have to have it gain that much ATK) or pay 1000 LP to destroy a monster.
That the TCG can't translate these effects into the cards is one problem; the fact the anime writers adapting the manga can't stick to them is another one (for ex. Spellbinding Circle is a Spell in the manga, so it can affect Gods, but in the anime Spellbinding Circle had already been rendered into a Trap, but the duel couldn't be rewritten to exclude it, so the God's protections seem more ambiguous than they really are).

The real cards were one thing and they wanted to keep them in the anime, but they could not work in the same situations. Spellbiding circle makes more sense as a spell. Though you can always say that traps only work for one turn, like spells. Most people only say the whole "they added new effects all the time" because of Ra and the way Marik was acting. Is not that the effects are new, but that Marik was protecting it, by nor revealing all the intricacies. So he would always have an ace. • @andresarancio6696

I guess the closest you could get to PSCT for the "true effects" of the God cards should go something like:
"Cannot be normal summoned or set. Must be special summoned from the hand by tributing three other monsters you control. Unaffected by monster effects, except for Divine Beast monsters. Cannot be targeted or destroyed by your opponent card effects. Cannot be tributed. This card's control cannot switch. If this card is special summoned except by its own effect, send it to the graveyard during the End Phase. If an opponent's monster declares an attack while this card is in Defense, (Quick Effect): change the attack target to this card."
The hardest effect to convey here would be the whole "effects only work for one turn" thing. For instance, if you Skill Drain a God card, would they just lose their effects forever? After all their effects are negated for one turn but once that turn is over their effects just wouldn't come back as they are negated.
A way to resolve this could be with a mandatory trigger that leaves a lingering effect, but the wording would be kinda wonky. Something like: "If a Spell/Trap card would be activated that would affect this monster, (Quick Effect): This monster becomes unaffected by that card effect after the End Phase."
That would be a bit of a pain, but it COULD make a pretty interesting scenario where you negate the God card to remove it from the field so its lingering effect doesn't trigger, which sounds like the kind of convoluted bullcrap that they pull on the anime.
Obelisk's gain attack to infinity thing would probably be ridiculous, not because it is good per se, but because card design tries to avoid infinity as a value in general? So Obelisk's unique effects could go something like:
"If this card declares an attack, you can tribute two monsters you control and activate one of these effects:
    - Destroy all monsters your opponent controls, and if you do, inflict 4000 damage to your opponent
    - Increase the attack of this monster by your opponent's current life points. This card cannot be destroyed by battle. A monster that battles this card is destroyed at the end of the damage step."
Slifer's is simple enough I don't think it is really worth mentioning.
Ra's though... I think the TCG/OCG were right on how Ra should work. Ra's effects should bring out other cards in the field instead, which take the shape of the other "modes" of the card.
So I would say Ra's unique effects should be:
"If this monster is summoned by its own effect, you can send this monster to the graveyard and activate one of the following effects:
    - Special summon from your deck, hand or graveyard a "Winged Dragon of Ra - Phoenix Mode".
    - Special summon from your deck, hand or graveyard a "Winged Dragon of Ra - Fusion Mode"
This card's original attack and defense are equal to the combined attack and defense of its tribute materials"
Regardless I do think that these effects could be a bit... ineffective? At least in the feeling one wants to convey on summoning the God cards. I personally think that the God cards aren't really about bringing out this unkillable creature, but more about bringing out a thing that your opponent is not getting rid of.
Like, besides Obelisk, the God cards will not usually be super dangerous in terms of actual danger to OTK you. Slifer will usually have at most 1000 or 2000 attack, and Ra Fusion Mode might be incredibly strong turn one but you most likely will want to bring it out as a board wipe on Phoenix Mode.
So what I would argue is that an acurrate way of remaking the God cards is something similar to how DPE works in the current meta. Have them use a lingering effect to bring them back to the field. Give the opponent the sense that they made an opening in the divine defense that they can use to win, instead of making Rhongomeniad 2.0.
So what I would suggest for the Egyptian God general effects to be is:
"Cannot be normal summoned or set. Can be special summoned from your hand by tributing three monsters you control. Unaffected by monster effects, except Divine Beast monsters. Cannot be tributed or be used as material to summon a monster from the Extra Deck. Once per turn, (Quick Effect): you can send this card to the graveyard, then, during the End Phase, special summon it to your side of the field."
This probably would cause some incidental synergy with decks that like you to summon from the graveyard, and maybe Call By The Grave would be a hard counter to it? But at the end of the day I think the God cards should follow the playstyle of "Big Chungus turbo" and be a thing you can rely on to stay on the field after you play.
They also wouldn't be too strong I don't think? Mostly cause outside of Slifer they pretty much lack interaction. And I think that's a good thing. Fighting a God card should feel less like a surely losing battle and more like a puzzle the opponent needs to solve if they don't want to get pummeled next turn.

Divine Hierachy does not exist in the anime, it's a Manga exclusive thing, since Marik used "Class System" instead of "Ra's" rank to deal with "Obelisk".
During the final duel of DM it is also shown that "Osiris" Summoning Blast can destroy all 3 gods, therefore "Ra" isn't immune like in the Manga.
Non-targeting Spells seem to be able to destroy them, as seen with "Ragnarok", which destroys all opponent's monsters, and "Burst Impact" in GX, which is implied, but due to "Mound of the Bound Creator" it is unable to destroy "Ra", it should be noted that this could also have been "Ra's" ability, since the statement regarding it having no effect is pretty vague.
The attack redirecting thing is a Manga thing, where Special summoned monsters would generally become the new attack targets if summoned during an attack, but the anime screwed up, by trying to combine the OCG with the Manga when writing some of the duels.

I was thinking that, the best and posible effect of the God Cards as real TCG/OCG cards, would be the ones that the majority of old video games gives to them, basically:
Shared effects: This cards needs 3 tributes to normal summon (cannot be normal set), cards and Effects cannot be activated during the summon of this cards, the summon of this cards cannot be negated, if they are special Summoned, they must be sended to the GY during the End Phase, They cannot be targeted or destroyed by your opponent card effects.
Slifer Effect: this card gains ATK and DEF based of the number of cards in your hand x 1000, If your opponent summons a monster, that monsters loses ATK or DEF depending of the Summon position equal to 2000 and if the result is 0, destroy that monster.
Obelisk effect: You can tribute 2 monsters to destroy all the cards your opponent controls.
Ra Effects: This card original ATK and DEF are equal to the combined original ATK and DEF of the tributed monsters, if this card is special summoned, activate one of this effects:
    1. Pay LP until you have 100, this cards gains the amount you paid.
    2. Pay 1000 LP, banish one monster your opponent controls.
At least, this effects and conditions are more balanced and they give more respect to the supposed best cards in the Anime/Manga franchise, without making them broken, but at the end, all of us know what Konami did to they :c

    I have a theory:
In ancient Egypt, when the 3 Egyptian "god" cards could be called on, there is something if you look closely. Everybody looks the same, except Obelisk the Tormenter. But the design isn't a coincidence, Obelisk's look in ancient Egypt is the exact same as after Yugi used "divine evolution" on Obelisk, which put him on the same rank as Ra. That means in Ancient Egypt, Ra and Obelisk might have been on the same rank, the same level. The two were equal on the "divine rank." That means Slifer, or Osiris, was either higher or lower than the 2. I'd say in my opinion Slifer was lower than the two because the "god" cards of the shadow games, Ra, Osiris, Obelisk, Exodia, they all match with a similar system as the ancient Egyptian humans did. Part of Ra's head is similar to a helmet worn by the Pharaohs, meaning he has to be a higher rank, and Exodia resembles a soldier. I think Exodia was the 3 "god" monster's personal servant/soldier, while the 3 creatures ruled over the other servants: The rest of the monsters. It also makes sense, in the game Exodia is more powerful, after all, the dude gives you an instant win. However, in ancient Egypt, the "god" creatures were clearly more powerful. When Zorc used the dark slashes on the 4 beasts I mentioned, Exodia's flame couldn't even slow it down, while Ra actually stopped about 3 of them in his Phoenix mode before Ra was killed, and Ra was the only out of the 3 "god" creatures who counter attacked, Osiris was killed before he could release his "Thunder Force," and Obelisk was dangling from Zorc's leg. Obelisk might have had a bit of immunity since he was closest to Zorc, he probably got exposed to the most amount of dark slashes, yet he was the last one fell.

Agreed they need to remake the old gods for the new meta to incorporate their abilities appropriately.
As for what you’ve suggested I would include the caveat that for them to be affected by card effects it requires a tribute to activate such effects of equal or greater power to that which is required to summon or empower the gods themselves.
Like sacrificing 4 monsters of level 6 or lower to destroy 1 god, or 3 monsters of level 7 or higher. Or if you sacrifice one of the Gods themselves or use an ability or attack from one of the other gods.

That is a nice video, very informative... BUT you forgot that Ra has actually two more variations in the TCG! "The Winged Dragon of Ra - Immortal Phoenix" and "The Winged Dragon of Ra - Sphere Mode"! Those give Ra some more of his Anime Effects!
Phoenix Mode: "Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned by its own effect. If "The Winged Dragon of Ra" is sent from the field to your GY while this card is in your GY: Special Summon this card. Cards and effects cannot be activated in response to this effect's activation. This card is unaffected by other cards' effects. You can pay 1000 LP; send 1 monster on the field to the GY. Once per turn, during the End Phase: Send this card to the GY, and if you do, Special Summon 1 "The Winged Dragon of Ra - Sphere Mode" from your hand, Deck, or GY, ignoring its Summoning conditions."
Sphere Mode: "Cannot be Special Summoned. Requires 3 Tributes from either side of the field to Normal Summon to that side of the field (cannot be Normal Set), then shift control to this card's owner during the End Phase of the next turn. Cannot attack. Your opponent cannot target this card for attacks or by card effects. You can Tribute this card; Special Summon 1 "The Winged Dragon of Ra" from your hand or Deck, ignoring its Summoning conditions, and if you do, its ATK/DEF become 4000."

The problem is Ra. While the whole point of having an Egyptian God monster is to wield ultimate power, if EVERYONE is running a Ra based deck, no one will be able to beat each other, thus resulting in draws. There still has to be a way to nerf Ra, at least a little bit, like say... Ra can only use one of its effects once per turn, or phoenix mode forces Ra to the graveyard at the end of the turn, banish phoenix mode to special summon Ra Sphere mode.
Another way is to give the God cards rock/paper/scissors matchups. Slifer can beat Obelisk, Obelisk can beat Ra, Ra can beat Slifer. The reverse can also be possible with the right combos: Slifer can shave off 2000 points from Ra, forcing the owner to pool more life points into Ra to compensate. Ra can overpower Obelisk if the owner pools in enough life points to its attack points, and Obelisk can inflict piercing damage to Slifer if the owner tries to switch to defense, or activate its effects to instantly destroy Slifer. The whole point of the Egyptian Gods is that by having just one of them, you already have a powerful boss monster, and with the right combos and field set up, your Egyptian God can beat the other two. If Ra is too powerful, then everyone is gonna try to run a Ra deck, with disregard for the other two.

    @leonkenedy2988 Před 3 měsíci

Since I loved the God Card so much I think, I can fixed text limitation somewhat for the Gods Cards even if it can be overwhelming.
First is the the name box, the name can be shrink down little bit more for the attribute and types of monster to fit in for example:
    "Divine" Beast
    ______
Dragon "Osiris" / Warrior "Obelisk / Machine "Ra"
The second part is the number of stars level, it can be rework into this: "Star Symbol" and whatever number levels they are, the number of their level can just be in above empty space of the right column. Then the rest of the empty field that the numerous star level once occupied can fit in for reworked text about the summoned condition such as normal and special summon. I believe it would go like this:
    • Requires 3x "monsters symbol" to Normal Summon.
    • If Special Summon, it goes to "Graveyard symbol" at the end phase.
With that alone, it will free up lots of room for more text to follow. In addition, the empty left column of the card picture can be used for targeting it in defense, like this:
    S.S (Special Summon)
    | "Down Arrow"
    DEF
    | "Down Arrow"
    Target symbol
    | -> "Down and right arrow" to the card picture
The right column can be for their immunity to being tributed, equiped, and being control with an "x" put over them. I would made it like this:
Tribute (Whirlwind of Soul Crossing card symbol)
    |
    Equiped (Equiped Spell Card symbol)
    |
    Control (Brain Symbol)
    By
Skulls symbol (It represent the opponent)
The third part is empty space between the card picture and effect box can go as we extend the effect box to filled it. Which would merge the two together. While at it, we might as well get rid of the words "Divine Beast" and keep only the word "Effect" in the bracket but smaller. So we can get in effect like: Immune to direct and targeting effect of monster/normal spells and traps cards (Continuous effect of spells/traps will only last for one turn), When Normal Summon, cards and effect be used to negate it summon and activated, and many more.
Finally, the final part that I liked, the empty space before number of ATK/DEF. I dont know why they leave it empty like that but it could used some help.
For Osiris, I would just put its ATK and DEF like this: ATK - DEF: X,000. The empty space before the ATK and DEF would be for this: X stands for numbers of cards in hands times 1,000 for ATK and DEF.
For Obelisk, I would just put it like this: ATK - DEF: 4,000 and the empty space can be use for its infinite attack effect like this: (Q.E, Quick Effect)- Tributes two monster you control to make this card ATK into Infinity until end of damage step.
For Ra, I would put it like this: ATK - DEF: ? I say, Ra is an interesting case as I would these in the empty space:
ATK-DEF is equal to the ATK-DEF of the tribute and tribute any of your extra monster to raise it ATK-DEF.
Again, I know that this can be overwhelming to see and read but its the only way to get most of the anime effect text in so it can feel OP that way. I believe true anime effect card should be for prize winning champion and not be used in a duel but whats stopping us from using it outside of it?

Now in Dueling Book I've Actually made Custom versions of all 3 god cards with some of their anime effects. (It's quite a mouthful, and I used a mix between the TCG and Anime effects.)
All 3: I kinda brought back their immunity ability but only made it to where they can't be destroyed or lose ATK/DEF by spell, traps, and/or effects. Also you can Normal Summon all 3 of them in DEF mode. During your end phase, I made it to where only Obelisk and Slifer would return to their perspective zone they were Special Summoned from for specific reasons.
Obelisk: Made it to where you can tribute 2 monsters to activate one of the following effects. •Destroy all monsters your opponent controls disregarding effects but can't declare an attack doing so. •Double this card's ATK until after this card declares an attack (referring to it's infinity mode) Added a 3rd Ability for Obelisk where you can tribute 4 monsters and this card can declare 1 direct attack during battle and it can't be negated or change battle position.
Slifer/Osiris: Didn't really change Slifer that much, but made it where Slifer's ability will activate by flip summoning in ATK mode as well.
Ra: (the most changes but I kept them in 3 separate cards for Ra) Can be Special Summoned once again. When Normal Summoned it gains ATK/DEF equal to the combined monsters current ATK/DEF used for it's tribute summon. (Pretty much the same as TCG) You are able to pay a all of your LP to be reduced to 100 do that Ra will gain ATK/DEF Equal to the amount you paid (can't use this effect if Special Summoned from the Graveyard). When Ra is Special Summoned from the Graveyard, you can tribute it to Special Summon it in it's Immortal Phoenix mode.
Sphere mode: (Small changes) only changed to where this card gains ATK/DEF equal to the combined monsters current ATK/DEF used for it's tribute summon. And when Special Summoning Ra with this, it's ATK/DEF will become equal to Sphere Mode's current ATK/DEF.
Immortal Phoenix: Added to where it can't be destroyed by battle and you take no battle damage involving it. It's attack declaration can't be negated or have it's battle position changed when attacking.

Yami Marik was a bad duelist. In reality he only won a single duel. He used shadow magic to confuse Mai into stealing his god, which he cheated back from her. Joey was about to beat him in a final attack until shadow bs made him pass out. Mariks victory would have been against Yugi as Ragnarok used up the rest of Yugi's deck. If you count all the card spirits torn from Yugi's deck, then all the spells, traps and other monsters it was 40 cards. Yugi's turn ended with no cards in his deck. The real Marik forfeit the duel on his turn only to banish the remainder of the darkness away.

  • @alexblake5369
    @alexblake5369 Před 9 měsíci

It's worth remembering that the original Duel Monsters card game was more Dungeons and Dragons with cards than Magic the Gathering. What I mean by that is that originally the rules were more like guidelines to give some structure to fights, but players could still pretty much do whatever they wanted so long as they justified it to an extent with logic. So for example a swords of revealing light card can give darkness monsters or monsters that hide in shadows a debuff since they cast a strong amount of light. This meant that a lot of cards had implicit or understood abilities based on their type and favor card text. This also made the favor text far less useless.
It wasn't until the Battle City arc that TCG was even created, and actual official rules, with the intent to balance the game, were out. That's why the Battle City arc saw a big revision to how the game was played, and a lot of cards were either removed or replaced. With that said it's still clear that the writer liked to use the more loose Dungeon and Dragons style of gameplay, which we see most evidently with the god cards. While each god card has its own special ability, a lot of their abilities are the implicit abilities we talked about that they just got for being gods. So that's why the spell and trap cards are so weird sometimes in the anime, because we're using D&D logic not hard card game logic.

  • @zaffardookhy5807

I'll give you credit for your work. You did an amazing job. The OCG/TCG made the Egyptian gods useless they are no longer the cards they were once feared by all duelist. They are nothing now easily be destroyed. So, why even bother! If the YCG/OCG knew they would made the Egyptian gods so feeble so there were no need to even released them. They were good as they were in the anime. By doing so, they disgraced the Egyptian gods. Such a shame these cards can't be use now cause if did they would instantly be destroyed upon summoning. I can even raise a kuriboh's attack points with power of the guardians to 4500 attack points and destroy obelisk. Man I wish you were the head of the yugioh trading card games, we would have got the real Egyptian gods and the real effect of all these super great amazing cards in the anime.

I think the reason for Ra's uniqueness regarding the Special Summon is its main gimmick with the LP drain. I recall that in the original print, the paying effect was not optional and instead of gaining ATK/DEF, those would be equal to the amount paid. Given that, it seems likely that the "defaults to 0" rules weren't set at that point yet, such that they had to prevent it from being Special Summoned at all in order to prevent its ATK/DEF from being undefined.

IIRC, the very first YuGiOh game for DS, Nightmare Troubadour, has the Egyptian God Cards in it. What makes it stand out is that it came out in 2005, whereas the actual legal god cards were only printed in 2010. Just looking at the wiki, it seems that they have something closer to their anime effects.
All of them cannot be targeted.
Slifer doesn't reduce attack, but instead instantly destroys any monster your opponent Normal or Flips with less than 2000 Def (this one seems to be the biggest deviation, other than some of Ra's shenanigans).
    Obelisk is basically the same.
    Ra can be special summoned.
Ra's stats are the sum of its tributes.
When special summoned, you can either pay all but 1 (not 100) of your life points to boost Ra, OR pay 1000 life to banish any 1 monster.
