    Will we see a DR 10X Pro???

    Sometimes I use my drone to record me walking and talking, and I would use an audio recorder like this and sync the audio in post with a clap. However, my concern with this is that the prop noise from my drone will get picked up in the recording. Would the base model DR-10L be better for me since I can manually adjust the gain with that, just enough to pickup on my voice but not the propellers?

      Hello, Jason! Fantastic question! I would recommend the DR-10L Pro for your needs. If you edit the audio in post-production after recording in 32-bit float, you'll have 1.) the latest and greatest technology in audio recording, and 2.) the ability to adjust the gain in a seamless way that will allow for you to reduce any unwanted noise that may bleed over into the recording.
      The TM-10L microphone that comes with the recorder is a fairly directional microphone - meaning it won't pick up easily on sound not directed at the actual microphone capsule.
      In addition to all that, the DR-10L Pro comes with the RX Elements software bundle from Izotope. This suite of programs is designed specifically for audio repair and removing background noises - easily remove coughs, wind roars, even ambient background sounds that drone through the entire recording.

      @@TASCAMUSA Amazing, thanks again. Does the lav mic that is included effectively pick up on the bass in one's voice, and also, are there any other lav mics on the market that emphasize the bass even better that would be a good pair to this recorder?

    • @TASCAMUSA
      @TASCAMUSA  Před 11 měsíci +1

      @@JasonActualization the included microphone - TM-10L - has a frequency response of 50Hz - 18kHz, which will definitely pick up and accurately represent bass in a human voice. But, one thing to consider (as with all microphones) is proximity effect. So, the closer the mic is to the source audio, the more low end frequency will be picked up. The farther away the microphone gets from that source, the less bass will be transmitted.
      As for other microphones, I don't have any other suggestions off the top of my head. If you look around for some other options, pay attention to the frequency response - human hearing extends from 20Hz to 20kHz. The lower the number in Hz, the more bass the mic will pick up. But, anything below 70Hz is technically "sub-bass", and the typical human voice won't carry a frequency lower than 50Hz (if even that).
      We hope this helps!

    For 32-bit float, when setting the gain, what results in the highest quality vocals, erring on the side of setting the gain too low, or too high, and then normalizing all peaks to 0 db in post?

    • @TASCAMUSA
      @TASCAMUSA  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Hello, Jason! We'd recommend somewhere in-between - proper gain-staging practices are still important for capturing a great recording. However, by using a gain-adjust function in your DAW or audio editor of choice (not a normalize tool), you'll be able to bring the peaks down and/or the quiet parts up.
      A good spot to aim for is somewhere between -12dB and -6dB.

      @@TASCAMUSA Amazing, thank you! To get the most focused recording on my vocals however, if shooting out and about with other noises, would it be better to set the gain lower while recording? Is -12dB to -6dB what I should be shooting for during the recording, and if so, how do I then bump to perfect 0dB levels in Premiere Pro? Thanks!!

      @@TASCAMUSA so how can I monitor?

    • @TASCAMUSA
      @TASCAMUSA  Před rokem

      @@jeffrey3205 Monitoring has to be done from the unit itself. On the side of the DR-10L Pro is an 1/8" headphone jack.
      While using the remote control operation of the DR-10L Pro CONNECT APP, users are able to see the incoming waveform. This can alert users to whether the recording is clipping or not loud enough. However, if 32-bit float point recording is enabled, that becomes less of a worry.
